Sea Legs look like Bow Legs.

Why?

Not enough money going to the model designers?

EDIT: In related news, I know of several people who cannot play Sid's Pirates! for the same reason some people can't play Civ 2: they would stay up all night and possibly lose their jobs.  I played it once ever, during the week, and was shocked to discover that it was 4am and I was going to have to get up in two hours.  I have not booted it up since.

I can confirm that. Its just one more Spanish galeon, or one more treasure map, or one more relative.

Once I got the dancing down pat and found all the hidden treasures I kind of lost interest in it.

This is turning into a general purpose pirates thread.

I thought it was about Metal Gear Solid.

Cat pictures of pirates.

Truly, this is an awkward downward spiral.

But in all seriousness...

I didn't see anything mentioning an NDA anywhere on the Pirates of the Carribean client or account setup or anything.

That being said...

I uninstalled it after 10 minutes. It is clearly not for me. I can see it being appealing to a younger age set, but it just seems relatively simplistic, if not for a few cool-looking features.

The most annoying part for me was if you play it in a window, you have ad banners along the top and on the left.

No, but the cupcake does!

...I found http://www.kawaiinot.com/ this morning. Imagine cute little pictures saying things like "I am the loneliest testicle." Most of them are pretty bland, but there are a few good ones in there. See: left.

And what is 'Phase 2'? Is this some grand doctrine I'm not aware of (clearly)?

Ended up downloading the other night, now waging war on the dirty Spanish with my 20 gun Brigatine o' Doom.

And for a game following the late 80s fashion for just bundling a bunch mini-games, I forgot just how much this is.

In other news, I hate dancing.

The  game this thread was sort of originally about brought the suck hard.

To everyone who is saying this may be ok for the younger set?  Jesus could you insult the kiddies a little more?  They've all got WoW accounts or siblings who have WoW accounts.  PotConline was exactly what you would think of if you imagined a typical drek movie game infected with the standard horrible quality of MMO titles.

In short, this game is bad for everyone, it sucks balls and I want my 20 minutes of life back.

Toontown - which definitely is a mmog specifically for the young - and is somehow a Disney product also - is one of the best out there.

When I last booted up PotC, I recall an NDA.

This makes me sad.  I am going to write an angry letter to Mel Brooks, demanding History of the World Part II and insist that it contain a pirate section.  I'm not terribly optimistic that it will work, I hear you can't Torquemada anything.

Too bad those fuckers don't support Vista yet.

I upgrade my OS and suddenly can't play.  I'm so sad.

Pushed back to Fall.

Funny quote at the end:

Quote
Virtual worlds and immersive gaming environments like Second Life and World of Warcraft have garnered considerable market momentum, and will soon be joined by Sony's PlayStation Home virtual world.
Funny because:

a) SL has not gained considerable market momentum, just a lot of PR recognition. Of their "millions", it's mere tens of thousands that financially support the game.
b) Sony's Home is going to be dedicated solely to a platform that would need to drop another $100 at least to gain enough momentum of its own to make Home anything more than some cool little feature most ignore.

Price drop or not, Home is a feature Sony needs simply to defend against MS's Achievements.  Really, the draw of the odometer is strong with me and many others and I think it's a mistake to underestimate the Achievements on the 360.

The tens of thousands I used was based on their 55k premium accounts I had read about recently. The point wasn't that "tens of thousands" sucks. That's actually a pretty good number for a game entirely built by people paying to be there.

Rather, my point was that "tens of thousands" is far less the the almost ten million people use when considering SL a game with "market momentum". There's this myth that SL is some mass phenomena when in reality the amount of people actually playing it are less than half of what we all resoundly agree to be a niche title (Eve).

Just got my invite and began playing.   NDA still in effect?

Also, if it is still in effect, can anyone who tried it previously (without going into any details) confirm/deny that what I'm playing now (new phase of beta just started) is roughly the same game that they played?

Because, well... I'm actually having fun so far.  I can see potential here.  Only a couple of hours in, though.  So I'm curious what makes my experience different from the apparent consensus on here.  PM me if you're also in beta and want to get into any specifics.
