Blizzard's downloader is the most hairpullingly obnoxious thing in video game history.
A friend of mine mentioned that you can rename the file and plop it in your favorite torrent client. Anyone know the details because, seriously, eat a bowl of dicks Blizzard programming geniuses.

Again PA proves they've got their finger on the pulse of gamers: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/06/21They licensed the bittorrent tech, only it's an old version that does't work real well and uses eleventy billion ports to communicate. I end up getting the patches fine, which is funny, I just have to manually turn on peer to peer. The rest of my guild simply does the direct download. The only fucking LAME thing was the "accidental" patch during primetime a few weeks ago, where you're playing, you get booted, and you try and log back in and it wants to patch... taking about 45 mins.

New bug fix patch today is why. When I was on my old shitty DSL modem I had no issues. Once it crapped out and I got a new one constant false firewall reports. This forces me to go to fileplanet which causes the veins in my head to being to throb.

I am unless I'm using the Blizzard firewall. And then I'm not. I have my router in the DMZ and Windows default firewall which I allow Blizz through. No go. I ditch the router and go straight modem -> PC connection, Windows firewall with Blizz allowed through. No go. I go direct and turn OFF my Windows firewall. Yep, you guessed it.
If it just didn't work it probably wouldn't be so infuriating but when it tells me something I know to be false then it really sets my teeth on edge. Like when that telemarketer keeps trying to sell you something even though you keep saying no.

I don't know why but it takes 5+ minutes before it even starts for me. Sometimes 10 or more.

This is even better. So I get the false firewall message and the tracker not connecting message. I check out the connections log. No connections. Fuck it, I leave it up.
Magically, an hour later, the 15 megs of the patch is downloaded. Except it didnt tell me it was downloading, just that it was finished. Go figure. I'll save my next anuerysm for 1.12. Bastards.
