Bonus points if your religious beliefs match theirs. One of the Steam threads has a dev saying it's not going to be like their other games, and you don't have to play as a Christian, but "That said, the underlying story has a Christian theme, so players should know that going in." Hopefully the preaching will be slightly more subtle than their other games.

Why is Christian any worse than other fantasy classes?

I don't see why anyone would give a shit unless there're quick time events to pray to Jesus as part of the gameplay. It's set in ye olde Europe. People were christian in ye olde Europe. Shock and gasp.

...The year is 1794. Your sister, a Christian Missionary to the South Pacific, has gone missing there. You travel to her last known location to find a cave that leads to a world unlike anything you could imagine....[snip] ... Explore the mysteries hidden in the land of Issachar. Discover the impact your sister’s faith has upon the land and you... [snip]... Play as male or female, Christian or atheist. There is no method with advantages or disadvantages. That said, the underlying story has a Christian theme, so players should know that going in.
This looks strongly like a "convert the heathens" game to me. Though I guess we'll see in time.

The rest of their catalogue puts the scales very much in the favour of Christians making Christian Games rather than People making games who happen to be Christians. Which is fine if that's your thing, but not so much if it's not. Waiting to see would obviously be the best option, unless the rest of their catalogue or the weight of their beliefs puts you off them on other grounds. Like, say, Stardock, EA, etc.

So probably no missionary position cutscenes to look forward to?

Clarification from the devs: Hi all, I'm the dev making the game in question (one half of the Saved Games team), and I just wanted to say I appreciate everyone's position on this. I purposely included the last line about the game containing a Christian theme specifically because I don't want anyone feeling hoodwinked into playing a game that mentions Christianity. We will undoubtedly lose players because of that, but I'd rather have that than people feel tricked.
I think it is important for people to know, however, that this is being built first as a video game. I am a hardcore gamer in the classical sense of the word, and I find it offensive for anyone to make a game that is incidental to an agenda. That methodology universally produces bad games.
As for the subject matter - based on the history of Christian games, I understand the trepitdation that some people have expressed here. Also, our apps are directed specifically at a Christian audience. Heroes of Issachar is not. For the backstory, the question I asked was, "What would happen if Christianity literally showed up in a fantasy world?" My conclusions are not all positive. This game is not a bunch of Christians high-fiving each other over how awesome we are. We will be dealing with things like the prosperity gospel and legalism, and a variety of ways the Western church has gone off the rails. We've got people starving to death around the world yet millions are pumped into building churches meant for comfort, we've got wackos picketing funerals supposedly in the name of Christ; these are the types of things I'm interested in exploring.

Don't trust them.
They should change the name of their company and dump the Jesus. Fox is what happens when Christianity shows up in a fantasy world.

It sounds like an interesting premise. South Park addressed something similar in terms of sending Christian missionaries into space, but I think the results in this game won't be similar.
