It's out! Anyone played it yet? I really want to see how the story ends, but EA's shenanigans have once again made me wary of buying.

Oh man, that's way better than mine. Especially considering that you actually spend a large part of the game puttering around in a little space runabout.

I appreciate that they completely ignore the environment for character design. "WE FOUND SNOW SUITS" Awesome. Why exactly does nobody have their goddamned helmets on in the entire game? Why am I wearing a hostile environment suit to not freeze to death, and everyone else has their hoods down or the equivalent of a ski mask on?

I love the game so far, but holy shit I feel like there needs to be one OCD nerd on their dev team who points out when the plot or environments have gone silly.

I loved the first two games, both for game play and story.  Somebody let me know if this one will be worth my time.

Thus far, the story is nonsensical. I'm trying to refresh my DS1/2 story memory to see if this is just completely senseless or not.

Gameplay, I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

The stories were fairly nonsensical but they worked well for the games. I enjoyed them, but they were basically trash.

EA is apparently pissed because gamers have figured out how to cheat their dlc system where you pay real money to gain in game currency faster.  I've never heard of this before in a single player game and might be a little worrisome if its successful.  More info in the link.

Well. I was never going to play this because it's not on Steam, so just more reason not to.

Seriously, part of me thinks/hopes that within the next year, EA will cave and start being nice with Steam again.  Someday.

Worst analogy ever:

Quote
#"If you go into a baker's to buy a bun and they give you the wrong change and you walk away knowing you have been given more change than you handed over in the first place, that's theft," Sara Ludlam, an intellectual property expert at Lupton, Fawcett, Lee & Priestley told the BBC.

Buying in-game content lets players spend less time having to hunt for hidden in-game resources
"So, arguably if you go into this game knowing you are supposed to be paying for these weapons and you notice a glitch allows you to accumulate them without paying, that's theft as well.

God Mother Fuck EA.  As soon as I think they can't get any worst, they get worst.  That is some stupid shit right there.

Yeah I particularly enjoyed how someone was trying to tell us that bypassing EA's nerve stapling of its customer base was somehow "theft" even though they purchased the game.

Go ahead and prove it. First, prove that you didn't violate fraud laws by instituting these kind of costs at all, when the majority of consumers wouldn't know they existed until after they bought the game.

I prefer they stay in their little ghetto and punish the stupid and greedy who chose to live with them.

Honestly, "game items spawn in game, and picking them up is basically theft" seems to be the core of the article.

Apparently it isn't a cheat, it's by design... or that's the way they're spinning it.
Quote
"The resource-earning mechanic in Dead Space 3 is not a glitch," said EA PR man Jino Talens in a statement to GameFront. "We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game. We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free. We've deliberately designed Dead Space 3 to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-09-ea-has-no-intention-of-patching-the-dead-space-3-loot-exploit

Probably it's just damage control. From one of the article comments:  "Wouldn't it be funny if Visceral did that as a "fuck your micro-transactions EA" thing".

That shit was very clearly a,"Lets see if they will fall for this shit, and how much money they will throw at us for nothing?" Then they got called on it and saw that the market masses are not quite that gullible yet. Unfortunately they are closer than makes me comfortable.

I am worried that a good many genres are going to be closed off to me over the next decade due to this type of monetary bullshit.

I don't think anybody is that gullible if they insist on charging $60 just to put the game in your hands.

If they want to microtrans some stuff, they need to discount the game or follow the freemium model.

I'd have the same worry if companies like EA were the only company in town. Personally I'm hoping there'll be enough who aren't all about the money. I have no problems if the graphics aren't up to today's level, as long as the story/writing/game mechanics are solid.

Dead Space has always had DLC packs that sold better weapons and armour. That DS3 would go down the same path via a slightly different process shouldn't shock anyone.

Also Sleeping Dogs has a number of DLC that literally do nothing but give you free rankups in Triad/Cop/Face XP and ingame money, despite all three of those things being retardedly easy to get a ton of.

Most of the people who have played DS3 indicate that you end up swimming in resources you earn from play that are available through the DLC. It's really only there for the truly impatient.

Also, the weapon combo system of this title sounds like a great change. Being able to build your own weapons and add damage effects lets you customise your combat style.
