Skullgirls is a traditional 2D fighting game developed by an indie studio but with top-notch aesthetics and production value. It's been out on consoles for a while but just had its PC release (yes, it's on Steam) a couple weeks ago, which was the first I'd heard of it. I doubt there's much fighting game love in this crowd but anyone fond of Arc System Works' stuff should give it a look. It's a six-button fighter but the pacing and combos are pretty similar to Guilty Gear (fewer extraneous gauges than GG though; health and tension are all you have to keep track of). The game has a tag team system similar to Marvel Vs Capcom but it's optional; you can opt instead to play with a single super-powered character and still be viable, which is great for new players and scrubs like me.

I'm pretty bad at fighting games but I like to support fighters on PC since the genre is way too console-centric. I'll probably keep pounding my head against this one for a while; the new character Squigly is adorable and maybe my favorite fighting game character not named Millia ever. I bought a four-pack but only have two friends, so I have a copy for cheap to anybody who will play with me.

I backed this when it was on Indiegogo and have been playing it quite a bit since release.  I backed it mainly to support more PC fighting games and have ended up enjoying it a LOT more than I expected.  Additionally I have a friend who may be interested in a cheap copy is if its cheap enough.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want a match or two.  Here is my profile (steam search never works).

So, it's worth getting, then?  I'd heard of it a while back, but dismissed it as a "hurr, boobies" kind of game for some reason.  Does anyone know if it supports non-Xbox controllers?

Mechanically I think it's probably the most fun fighting game out there right now and its only going to get better as they finish the DLC characters, so I would say yes on it being worth it.  That said it *is* a fighting game so it will take practice to get any good at.  The net code is fantastic and there are lots of players at all levels in the lobby system.  It works with pretty much any controller that your pc will see including a keyboard.

What boobies? even street fighter 4 / guilty gear has more boobs than this.

Its a very hit or miss game, even for a fighter. The game wants to be basically a cross between Guilty Gear and Marvel 2 some people love it but its not the most simple and accessible nor the most flashy fighter out there. Also it might be worth considering if you are into air dashers there are new versions of BlazBlue, Guilty Gear and Persona 4 Arena on the horizon so this is a good time to get into them or perhaps a good time to wait to see which one is considered the best depending on how you look at it.

As for the tits, its an anime game and has some anime-style fanservice but by video game standards its hardly noteworthy amounts and now they are adding disgusting male fighters to the game. If however you are the anti-anime type and couldn't figure it out this game isn't for you and you will be disgusted and offended by patsu and a mostly female cast.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

Is the new P4A actually coming to the US? Last I'd heard it was JPN arcades only.

I'm usually one of the first to be turned off by the ridiculous objectification of women in video games, but Skullgirls - with the notable exceptions of some of the panty shots on defeat, and maybe Valentine in general - doesn't bother me much. Mostly because every cast member's visuals represent her personality, and that comes through pretty strongly regardless of how sexualized they are. Like, Cerebella has giant, impossibly waggly breasts but even those are overshadowed by the even more giant pair of mutant orange arms sprouting out of her head. It just doesn't seem as exploitative as most games. Though admittedly I did feel the need to select some of the more toned-down characters for my screenshot above.

Anyway, yeah, I definitely don't regret my purchase, and I paid four-pack price. Hoax and Lounge are correct that it does takes some effort to get into but as combo-based fighters go it's not so bad. Being able to play with a single character is a big advantage to accessibility over MvC and I think it plays just a tad slower than Guilty Gear. My execution is terrible but I can still pull off neat combos from time to time.

I do still think six normals is wanton excess though.
