I can't stand the Windows version. Can anyone recommend a better one?

I think the best software I've tried in this department is O&O Defrag. Slick interface, kick ass performance and kick ass features. It has a mode where it will kick in automatically if it the system is on low load, and it seems pretty intelligent about it.

While on the subject of decent little apps, anyone have any leads on nice, FREE utilities to tune up a PC? Maybe give the registry a good cleaning to help start-up lag or something?

I've been using this last six months, the latest version of this is awesome and best part it costs nothing.

I will have to try it since MyDefrag has gotten all DIY. Seems to work fine but I'm just a simple unfrozen caveman AIX specialist, all of your files needing to be contiguous frightens and confuses me.

JkDefrag. Free.
Another vote for this. Install it, and set your screensaver to JKDefrag - it actually works (unlike so many other automated defragger's I've tried).

Windows 7 Defrag is fantastic if you leave your computer on 24/7/365 like I do.

JkDefrag is now MyDefrag.
I'll check on the Win7 defragger. After years of looking elsewhere for working apps, it's hard to remember that I can probably go back to the MS tools.
Win7 retail is even better than the RC. I think it is sad that this surprises me and must be said, but here we are.
EDIT: For example, AVG 9 lost its damn mind. I was not able to terminate the service or otherwise halt the apparently-full-system scan which I had specifically told it to DO LATER, so I uninstalled that shit and installed MS Security Essentials.
