I haven't purchased the Burning Crusade, but a friend of mine is kind enough to re-sub my account to 'play around with once in a while' So I decided to give it another go with a fresh warlock. And I remember my NE Hunter suffered level 1-10 in Darnassus and I did a gauntlet run with friends at lvl 13 thru Darkshore and quickly board the boat to Menethil Harbour. We ran through a bunch of lvl 20 crocs and spiders dying repeatedly just for the sake of leaving the hell hole that is Kalimdor. And finally relocated at Goldshire. Never to return to Kalimdor unless we really really reallly realllllllly have to.
My complaints: The setting is nice and all, with forest and stuff but I really felt that the zone could use a 'tighter' quest giver and quest objective distance. Let's take Darkshore for example. I took my Human warlock over there to 'explore never-done-before content' that I skipped on my 60 hunter (circa 2005)
I did a few 'close by' missions. It's not so bad. Then suddenly it gets ridiculous. I ran to the southern end of the map to talk to this oaken tree. He sends me to a further south place to investigate some bad guy spot. I did that. Then he sends me to the NORTH EASTERN tip of the map. I was really frustrated by then and told myself to fuck it and returned to Lakeshire. Couldn't stand it. There was also another quest that took me to the north end. Then wayyyyy south. Then back north end JUST to collect the reward. Wtf? No thanks. I'm not coming back to Kalimdor till I get my mount!

That's what Horde leveling is pretty much about. Probably also why 2 of my higher level chars got early run buffs. Waiting until 40 to get your mount as Horde is just pure pain.

I have found that Alliance have more running quests in general. Goldshire and Duskwood are the worst. I really like the zone of Duskwood, but the running is such a pain. On the up side, the Alliance fed-ex quests seem to give much much more exp than the horde side.

Duskwood's running isn't too bad until the very end, but the zone is so cool I never noticed.
I just can't get a horde alt past 25-30 because their zones are just so boring and content-free.

I must be an oddity, I find it much easier to level characters on Horde side than I do Alliance side. Getting my mage into the 50s was a struggle at times, my UD warlock in comparison was a breeze. Granted, I did focus on the Eastern Kingdoms for my quests as much as possible, with Splintertree/Stonetalon being what I used to bridge gaps between quests.

Duskwood is my favorite zone, and I've leveled three characters there without feeling a grind. I'm missing it terribly now that my BE warlock has graduated from Ghostlands and I'm reluctantly settling for Tauren Mill because Kalimdor is teh sux land for lowbies. This blood elf is the first Horde character above 10th level for me. My orcs, trolls, and tauren inevitably commit suicide due to excessive landscape boredom.

Duskwood sure seems a lot like the AD&D campaign setting Ravenloft.

It's got a Sleepy Hollow feel to me. I imagine Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci playing all the NPCs there.

The trick with duskwood is to fly to westfall and run back across the river whenever possible.

Heh, that's what I always did, too. Still, one of my favorite zones. Forsaken zone progression doesn't look too bad though, unless you're on a PVP server at least.
