Why not run a couple of different games? UT2k4, BF2, CS:S etc?
Also, Schild. I'm horribly disappointed in you. Go out and buy a PC that will run Vanguard comfortably, right now.

The government doesn't sell their computers to home users yet, how is he gonna do that?

He just has to use about 1 week's worth of his console title-buying budget.

There aren't enough PC games to warrant an upgrade. I need a new computer; lock, stock and barrel. A simple upgrade won't fix this. I buy computers that last 5+ years. Which is one of the reasons I could validate buying a PS3 at launch. Generally my computers run $2500-$3500. This last one ran about $1800, but only because I used a lot of stuff I had left over (still using an old Audigy, among other things). Didn't upgrade the graphics card with it originally either.
Anyway, when I have 3-4k lying around, I'll buy a dell box with dual graphics cards and such. Until then, I'll play stuff like UT2k4. Not like something better is coming out anyway.

The only problem with that is that PCs don't last 5+ years. Not if you're a gamer, anyway.
You'd be better off paying half that for non-bleeding-edge-but-still-bloody-good boxes every 2.5 years and adding things like the old HDD in for extra space, and reusing the DVD drives and maybe some of the RAM, etc.

My PC is more than 4 years old now. I can still run just about everything on the market, and it was built from scratch for about $1800. I've added another HDD, added 512MB of RAM, and changed the video card. And I know that I will not be able to build a totally new system for at least another year and a half. I know, it's going to get painful at some point.
So far, the only games that I've seen that I KNOW I can't run is the newest Ubisoft stuff (R6: LV and the new Splinter Cell).

It's generally not worth playing on open servers, as the only people who still play it are really, really good at exploiting certain guns/areas. Would still be neat to zap and stake one another a bit.

Not really digging Fear yet. Seems like it's made for CS type of gameplay, but all the players just rush like they're on amphetamines.

Does Fear Combat have a straight Deathmatch mode?

Yeah, but I'm only finding open team matches. Kind of hard to differentiate between the different team avatars too.

With deathmatch, teams don't matter. Squad based gameplay doesn't represent any sort of feat - especially of strength.

I'm sure I could find a copy of UT2K4. But I have BF2 and can download FEAR.

If you're going to drop 3-4k on a computer for gaming you might want to consider not spending it on a Dell for fucksakes. I have no issue with egregious recreational spending, but you could get more for your money (both performance and value) than giving it to Dell. Gawd. Anyway, it's your money to waste and I'm sure you have some reason you'll defend unto death about why that's the best route to go, soooo okay. On topic. I'm in for gaming certainly, but I too have to bow out over UT4k, I actually gave the discs away to a friend because I'm not enamored with the low-grav BFG pew pew pew crap that Unreal has goin' on. I also think that a game where we might get to be more snarky to each other would generate some interesting stories. I think Civ4 would be a great idea, hell even Rome:TW or something like that. Shortlist: BF2 Civ4 in some incarnation Dawn of War/Dark Crusade yeaaa!!! Defcon == Rome: TW? FarCry? SoF II? Edit after thinking of something that would run on most machines - C & C Generals maybe? (another great RTS)
