Adam Carpenter dropped everyone a hint that codemasters had some event coming up this weekend. Apparently its a chance to get an early glimpse at Fury, and indicates that they may be closing in on moving towards a real Alpha/Beta schedule.

I got that email as well, but haven't heard whether I'm one of THE CHOSEN for whatever it is. It also tried to pimp me Archlord and RF Online.

This is the first I've heard of this game.  Made by Auran, an Austrialian company whose previous experience was a bunch of Train simulator games and Dark Reign.   Somebody added to the Wikipedia that Fury's primary emphasis will be on PvP.   Tried to view the teaser video, but it was corrupt.  Judging by some screenshots, apparently meditation dojos will be in the game, oh boy!

Played it at AGC, they were doing private demos, pretty crazy. Never got gameplay impressions together though as I felt it was too early in dev.

They actually tried to make a game and some software out of my favourite ever PnP RPG, Hârn, but they botched it and it got canceled. So I don't like 'em too much.

No idea about the potential of this game but at least this idea is interesting :

That's silly. Haven't people learned that One Massive World(tm) is better than a buncha "realms/galaxies/shards/whatevers"?

Half the reason I will never go back to WoW is because all the folks I know are now playing on a different server ..

That isn't exactly feasible for every type of setting though. What would work for Eve would be horrendous for World of Warcraft.

One thing I'll say from my playsession a few months ago - tightening up this game could make it very fun. They're onto something, I think. Or at least it seemed that way.

It also seemed like a diversion more than a timesink, which is the sort of thing that attracts me these days. Maybe not you, but for me, that was huge.

Being like WoW isn't the point of Fury - Fury is meant to be more of a mix of third person fighter that is pure PvP and with RPG elements.

How well it all mixes together I don't know, but they get point for trying something different.

Yea, it's all arena combat. This game is Not About the Massive part. In marketing terms "It's distilling all the good stuff to make something fun." I just made that up, it's not an opinion, it's not from some PR shit. It's just what it seemed they were aiming at.

All the dev stories seem to point to this idea.

There is no endurance bar / mana bar since they thought it was really a "fun" bar - when most MMOG endurance / mana bars are empty, there is no fun. (Open for debate - where the fun is when the mana bar is full...)

No character levels - extra abilities are opened up by completing tasks ala CoH badge system. Do an attack X times. Heal someone else Y times.

Full free respecs in between matches.

I don't want to sound like this game's marketing department, but they are trying something different enough that I've kept my eye on it. I hope they succeed.

Moreover, I hope I get into that sneak peak... although I'm a little late in signing up.

That post sounded like the original vision for Tabula Rasa.

But that's a good thing in this case.

I keep hoping someone will mix FPS UI with RPG motivations and settings. I was one of those impressed with Project Offset. I don't really care who does it first though. I just want it done. There's a whole untapped genre out there, the one that decouples stats from diku from timesinks. Development has been stalled by WoW though, because it proved a lot more people wanted a diku, they just weren't biting until it was wrapped in a quality experience and a familiar game-based IP.

Not that I have lots of faith in this particular title. I just like someone else is at least trying.

There's no NDA that I can see, so it's probably OK for me to say that I got my Fury stress test confirmation by now, so I imagine that anyone else who is in - which I suspect may be *everybody* - will probably know by now, too...

I'm already feeling better knowing this game was made in Australia instead of Korea.  Despite living in the eastern hemisphere, I'd say an Australian's tastes are considerably more Western.

Let's not.  Because Publishers Matter.  And Codemasters' record in choosing to work with Archlord and DDO certainly doesn't match up to the claims that they're making about Fury.  That is, the claims Codemasters are making, in an email from that same Codemasters, about a game that they have chosen to publish and over which they therefore have influence.

At this point, I'm not entirely sure the publisher matters. I can't say why, but trust me, there's a reason I'd say that. There's also a reason I capitalized "Just" and "The."
