Apparently top-end gear in DUST 514 only costs 24c to acquire.

Until you die, then you lose it and it's another 24c to buy it again.

There's a kind of genius to a death-based payment system in an FPS.

(And you can also apparently spend ISK on it too, but that's not anything new.)

I guess it's not impossible, World of Tanks has real money ammunition after all. But I think they really over-estimate how much people are going to care about dust, they need to offer something much better than other shooters to justify that sort of thing and I don't think the "strategic" ties to Eve are going to do that.

Yeah In WoT you can buy premium ammo and consumables. Question is how attainable this "top -end " gear without cash

It will if the combat landscape is actually planetary in scope and moves across the planet intelligently based on combat, a-la an improved version of Planetside, rather than being the equivalent of a CS1.6 server with 10 maps on rotation where the winning team gets to vote which map is played next.

Being a sniper deep behind enemy lines trying to cut off their supply lines would be fun.  CS1.6 where round results influence EVE spreadsheets would not be something I give a shit about.

From my understanding, you can buy the same gear with ISK, even ISK earned in EVE.  Corporations and alliances in EVE could fund their DUST players.  Or maybe I'm understanding it wrong?  Either way, I don't see how this will get many more people to play EVE.  The complexity of EVE would probably make most console kiddies brains explode.

It'll give me an excuse to blow the four billion I'm sitting on though.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

But there is real planetside 2 coming out .Which will be probably ages ahead of what DUST offers.

I've played both. Currently Dust is the better game although there's a lot of development time yet to go on PS2.

And that comment is based on what? I am not saying you are wrong, I am saying you probably have no base for such statement. If you do, please share cause I am very interested in both projects.

Isn't Dust console-only? That makes it a pretty easy decision.

I'm not sure Dust and Planetside 2 are directly comparable. It's also seems Scold was just using it as an example of the type of progression in combat and "war game" would hopefully work.

The idea of CCP getting it right first time seems so out of character, and I'm not sure console FPS fans will be nearly as loyal.

Still, I look forward the release / NDA being dropped so I can see what they've got.

Bear in mind I think this is a different CCP studio creating Dust than Eve

I'm not going to say anything else due to NDA other than dont wory about Pay-to-win in Dust

I hear this is going to support USB keyboards/mice.  I'm fairly interested to see how that's going to work out actually.  If they don't nerf the controls somehow I can see myself picking it up just to stomp on some console kiddies.

Lots asking for it but I havent seen anything concrete about it making it in - the concern is that, if it does, it'll pretty much be mandatory and just by looking at the Eve skill model you can see there are other barriers to competitiveness (read:entry) as well......

Planetside was already good fun game. It had many things right except for payment model. Its PC only (which means developers can go bananas on scale)

DUST comes from the company which made EvE. The most boring spacecombat ever. How can you screw that?  Watching paint dry is more fun. DUST is console project.Means 8v8 player limit or some such, tiny maps, , bad textures, draw distances of 50 meters.  - of course its all speculation and based on Iainc comment I dont know what to think

I'll trust my intution and though - I never liked single console FPS, I doubt this one will be different, especially coming from creators of EvE. It will look pretty  though I bet

I find the 'spacecombat' more compelling in EvE than space invaders or asteroids. In fact I've been involved in some bloody exciting tête-à-têtes.

EVE is not for everybody, and it certainly has its flaws, but to fail to acknowledge what an overall awesome and unique game they created is kind of shortsighted in my opinion. From such a company I expect both huge blunders and amazing surprises, but nonetheless I see CCP as an incredibly talented bunch.

So while I am not sold on lots of Dust 514 things, I am definitely going to wait and see.

The gameplay will make them fall asleep long before they run into any 'complexity'.  Ohhhhh, I see.

I just can't see this being successful, for most of the reasons already listed in the thread.

Shouldn't this be out already? They seem to be taking quite a long time for a FPS.
