Took a quick look and didn't see this mentioned elsewhere. I tried the demo today and I didn't hate it. I usually can't get into RTS games, but this one didn't seem like it was painful to learn or play. My speed for RTS games is Footmen Frenzy in WC3. Anything more than that makes my mind wobble. So far I've only done the first tutorial mission. It looks like it might have enough variety to keep me interested, assuming it has both land and space based missions. Graphics were nothing to write home about, but were servicable. After watching the kids play Warhammer 40k, I can see where some might be disappointed. I'd say it's a bit behind that one graphically.
Eh, I'm no expert. Just starting a topic to see what others thought. I might actually buy this one. It seems to be noob friendly.

I'm still waiting for them to drop the price on BattleFront 2. I thought the Empire At War trailer looked pretty good. That said, I really should try the demo first because I thought Republic Commando was ass.

I might try it at some point but after playing the Myth games I just really prefer Strategy games where the units you start with are the only ones you get.

Not knowing its mechanics, I swore to myself that if it was harvest-resources type game, I'd just drop it right there. Instead, it crashed my computer.

Whenever an opponent discards a card, Megrim deals 2 damage to that player.

I kinda have a penchant for these things, ever since i got too old to play Starcraft. Is there like, a demo out?

From what I've read it doesn't seem like there's harvesting. Instead the more planets you control, the more cash you get to buy more troops or something to that effect.

It seems more tactical than anything else. I haven't delved back into it yet as I got CoV and X-Men Legends 2 the other day and they sorta kinda grabbed my attention away. Shiny objects do it to me all the time.

Which part of the second line in the very first post of a very short thread is so hard to grasp? There's a demo, it's ok and there's also a hack floating around that opens up more planets and many of the units. there's no harvesting and none or very little building during battle. The strategy overlay is more like Total War in space, where you conquer systems and build fleets/armies, that you bring into battle - you can get reinforcements during battle /from the troops you brought), but you don't harvest and build. It's a marriage between Rebellion and Force Commander with a bit of Total War thrown in. It looks great... but I'm not to keen on 2D space battles - but you get to fly around in the Death Star and destroy planets (shortcut is CTRL-D), so it must be good... I'm looking forward to the full version. I don't think it will be the greatest RTS ever, but pretty cool in places and I'm a sucker for old school Star Wars.

Because of the latter, all I needed to hear was the former. I am so sad.

Sorry about that. I ddin't think to provide any demo links as most here probably have their favorite sites for demo downloads, and I'm sure the demo is available on numerous sites. Nice to know about the hack though. Will be checking that out later on.

I enjoyed Warcraft 2, but since then RTS games have been teh suck for me. The only one I've gotten into was WH40k: Dawn of War, although Rome was ok as well.
Is this a RTS of either of those types? or is it the more typical WC3/AoE vein?

Does this suck less than Rebellion? Because that's the worst game I've ever played more than once, but I played it for 2 weeks straight because I'm a goddamn Star Wars nerd.

I haven't played Rebellion in years, but I don't remember it sucking as hard as everyone keeps insisting it did.
But then I grokked the interface pretty quickly, which was most folks biggest bitch. Force Commander was the game I thought sucked the hardest. I hated that game even more than ESB for my old 2600.

I'm with the elf. I actually did a lot of 2 player rebellion against work colleagues. I liked it. (Though I think it wasn't called that over here.)
Nothing like trapping the enemy forces with interdictor cruisers and then tearing them apart. The Empire was overpowered.

I remember the worst thing being the horrible AI; the game was way too easy even on the highest difficulty. I never played head to head, so it was probably better that way. Though I also thought the resource management was shallow and that the tactical combat thingamajig was kind of pointless.

You haven't played the crapiest Star Wars game until you've played Star Wars: Demolition on the Dreamcast.

I will, eventually. Most games aren't worth $50 to me anymore. I only just bought KOTOR2 for $20. (Yes, despite the horrible ending I still wanted to play it through.)

Um, it's been out for a week, 2 weeks?
It has its fun moments. Space battles are more fun than ground battles. YMMV.
