MARTIN COUNTY - Martin County Sheriff's detectives didn't buy it when a 48-year-old Jensen Beach man claimed that his cat was downloading child pornography on his computer.
Keith R. Griffin, of the 3600 block of Northeast Jeannette Drive, was charged Wednesday with 10 counts of possession of child pornography after detectives found more than 1,000 child pornographic images on his computer, according to a news release.
Griffin told detectives he would leave his computer on and his cat would jump on the keyboard.
When he returned, there would be strange material downloaded, the release states.
Griffin was being held in the Martin County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Why were the cops searching his computer?
Did the cat call 911 too?

Ya, once he knew the cops were on to him. Diversion tactic.

My cats open programs up all the time by laying on the keyboard. Never porn, mostly Calculator with some numbers punched in.
Although one of them had a nasty habit of making my characters in WoW run forward until something killed the toon.

It's not a fun call to make. I managed a photo lab for a year and had three instances of it brought to my by employees. Two looked pretty innocent, but maybe bathtime photos should stop after 2 or 3 years of age. The other? It was the only one I called the police for, not sure what happened. I hope it was a little brother playing with the camera, that's all.

Planes? Shit, I'm terrified to get in my car now!

Flip side of that is I also worked in a processing lab for a few months back in the early 90's and we regularly had to have arguments with the store manager who wanted to report completely innocent pics to the police.
Like, dad in bath with baby daughter - something parents have been doing for ever - he wanted to call the cops. Family holiday snaps with pics of ~5 yr old kids playing naked on the beach. Clearly totally innocent and natural and relaxed but this wanker of a manager thought they were perverts. Stupid, really.

In the fall of 2007 a male purchased a laptop computer from a business in the St Vital Mall. In early February 2008 he brought the laptop back for repairs and was loaned another laptop while his was being repaired. In mid March 2008 the male picked up his own laptop and returned the loaner laptop to the store. At this time separate videos of two females between the ages of 14-16, were located on the loaner laptop hard drive and police were contacted. The Winnipeg Police Service Integrated Child Exploitation Unit investigated this incident and was able to identify the two female victims, who were not aware they had been videotaped, and owner of the laptop who lived in Emo, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police in Fort Francis Ontario were notified and also investigated this incident. A search warrant was executed on a males residence and additional computer equipment was seized. Darcy Douglas JACK, 33 years of age, of Emo, Ontario has been charged with Voyeurism X 2 and Unsafe Storage of Firearms. http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/press/2008/04apr/2008_04_09.stmWas a boring teacher too.

I worked at my universities computer lab for several years. I've personally called the cops on and had 3 people arrested on site for watching child porn in our lab, and many more beyond that we've caught while I've worked there (note, we don't card at the lab, so every crazy/homeless bastard could come into our very large computer lab and use the computer. These also happened to be the people we spent the most time "helping"). We had remote desktop software that would allow us to freeze their keyboard and mouse, along with seeing whats on their screen. So the funnest part was waiting for for the cops to arrive at the front desk and pointing them to the guy, then timing the freezing of their mouse as they looked up and saw the cops bearing down on them, since the important part was that the cops actually saw with their eyes the child porn on his screen. Reactions of the pedo's when we this happened was priceless. There are a lot of sick fucks out there, that's what that job taught me. On the other hand, I've officially have several "citizens arrests" now
