I consider Cher to be a cheesy gimmick!

Gregg's not trotting her carcass onto the stage every night, though.

Anyway, yes, one of my tests or qualifications of any band is the performance sounding just like the studio versions (with live variations due to stage goings on). They get an A+ for this.
One of my tests is the performance sounding better than the album, and if they can completely change the song around, even better. I have albums, I don't need to see someone play it note-for-note, might as well lip-sync it. Going to see someone like the Allmans, where you never know what you're going to get is a true concert experience. They don't need some cheesy gimmicks to put on a good show.

My point was they are not overly produced and rely on studio only things. I never said play it note for note.

Still, it is worth mocking every now and then just for the fact that he married Cher.  CHER!!!

To be fair, it was mid-70s Cher, who was smokin' hot. And rich.

This and the pictures of Cher are giving me a pretty serious "Queen of the Damned" vibe.  Not in a good way.
