Im a Thane (warfare + storm), currently lv 13 still in act 1, scene 5.

BTW, I'm currently using an enchanted cyclops club that has poison and fire damage, and when you one shot stuff they go flying way the heck up in the air in an arc like CoH knockup and back.  It's hysterical.

You can knock people dwon into the endless holes in dungeons and over cliffs with that sort of stuff as well. You lose the items, but it's worth it.

I think I am going to go with an Assassin. Gonna work way up the Dual Wield skill tree in warfare, then swap over for some stuff in the Rogue tree.

When is a good point to pick up a second mastery, generally?

I go for Conqueror (Defense main/Warfare for later). Having fun with Adrenaline and +regen gear right now. Still Level 13, though. I guess I will put some points in the Warfare tree for the nice offensive punch once I have the Adrenaline tree maxed.

Just picked up the game earlier today.  Got a lv. 11 Pyromancer so far that I'm liking.  Not sure yet what I'm going to go with for a Secondary.

@Schild:  I would buy it from a store but for the fact that the only EB's in SF are in Stonestown (a mall) and downtown which are the two most annoying places to need to be.  Plus I need to go play hockey and watch the world cup today.

...Actually, I like Lightning graphics. I tend to gravitate towards any gaming class or character that has them.

Think I'll probably end up going Conjurer.  There are a some good Spirit abilities that really seem like they'd complement what I'm doing with Earth.  I'll probably end up not having shit for defense though.

Edit:  So... when do we turn the UO forum into the Titan Quest forum?

Also, dealing out a ton of damage quickly can also be seen as a form of Defense - dead shit can't hurt you, though you have to make undead doubly dead for this to be true I suppose.

I've got this weird craving since playing my EQ shaman. I want to regenerate more hitpoints at a given time that my enemies can dish out in damage. And I will manage that in Titan Quest as well, even if it is the last thing I will do. You may call me a pussy, but everything dies of boredom before killing me, so I will be a pussy with staying power.

This game is beyond fantastic, theres 14 ways to play spirit for gawds sake. Just for shits and giggles im going spirit (linchking) and earth (core dweller) kinda of a lord of the flies build. Lets play with too many pets. seems to be working as of yet.

When do you get the option of a second mastery? I don't need it yet, but I'm just wondering.

Also - Yeah, I'll be eating lots of potions...good thing they are cheap. It'll get easier once I get passive abilities in the dual wield tree.


One build that might be interesting, at least in multi, would be a dedicated group buff build. I have no idea how you would make it through single player though.

Just finished up the first chapter.  So far I've only crashed twice.  The first time I had been playing for several hours and the game started to get more and more choppy as I played and then it crashed.  Maybe there were just too many dead bodies and items on the ground for the game to keep track of, I don't know.  The second time was in the Labryinth.  Hadn't been playing all that long so I'm not sure what happened that time.

Not once you've committed and closed the window. The mystic won't let you unbuy points in mastery levels, only in skill levels.

Game crashed once on me, up to Athens. It gets choppy sometimes, though.

Hasn't crashed for me but lots of times when I port back to town my textures are all corrupt (can't even read text, mades selling difficult) and I have to stand still for a minute or 2 for things to clear up.

I am having chronic character indecision right now. I have a level 10 Spellbreaker, spirit as main, and he pretty much sucks. The spirit part is fine, but I have no reason to melee, so it makes a lot of my skills pointless.

I also have a level 15 warrior, and I havent chosen a second yet. He is pretty fun, but I cant decide what second to go with. I was thinking rogue, but then I heard that Assassins get completely owned in Epic and legendary mode. Like most bosses will 1 hit them.

I was thinking of taking Spirit second for my warrior, and just put a few points in to it for the life drain, and maybe one of the auras. I was also thinking about Earth or Storm for the weapon buffs. Arrrggg. I cant decide. I also want to try and pure caster type, maybe Earth, with Defender just to help me stay alive, or Earth/Spirit, I heard that is pretty damn good.

My friend is getting the game today, so I will probably start my Pyromancer.

Rerolling as full Stormcaller now.

Gave up pretty quickly on the Hoplite idea.

Maybe this new guy will be a Thane as well, but I don't plan on picking a secondary as soon as I did last time.

Pyromancer has been pretty good so far.  My pet was tanking the last couple bosses in Egypt and only taking slivers of damage.  Pretty low on defense at the moment having focused mostly on my pet and my damage adds so far.  I've got some sort of fire shield though which does decent damage to enemies that get close to me and I'm hoping to bolster that up further at some point with the Deathchill Aura from the Spirit line. 

My biggest problem is when the bosses go for me intead of my pet.  Right now potions heal me quickly enough that I've been ok, but I can see needing help when it comes to Epic mode.

I find the targeting control of almost everything in the game to be a pain at times.  Many is the time I try to fire a blast from my staff only to end up running headlong into the mob instead.  Spells are a bit easier to target with I guess but any sort of basic left-click attack can often lead to fuck-ups.

I assigned my primary attack to the RMB and have a habit of hold down shift when I'm firing volleys of arrows. Either one of these will work, since RMB won't make you move to a location/pick stuff up and shift forces LMB into a similar mode where it will only attack and won't move.

I took warfare for onslaught, dodge and damage resist. I didn't take dual wield. I'm only level 26 and in Babylon but I kill stuff plenty fast and so far it's fine. You might want to consider going heavy on regen gear with dual wield.

Isn't there a 50kb limit on uploaded avatars? You allow avatard linking so we can have dancing avatars ;)

Also, I tried titan quest -- I'm waiting for a pach. It crashes constantly, I want an autoattack, an auto-sorting inventory, and a pickup item hotkey. It feels like a step backward from d2 :/  I found casting spells to be awkward :(

It's pretty and fun and mindless though. I think I'd play it if it would just stop crashing.

I find that just chuggin potions seems to work fine. I'm going to start investing heavily in some of the defensive skills in the fire tree to see if that increases my survivability any.

So far he has 8/8 onslaught and a bunch of DW stuff, but I keep hearing more and more its not a viable build. I also have my Spellbreaker, but honestly it doesnt seem to compliment itself very well.

I have a pyromancer that I like, but once you get more than 1 decent attack spell, it becomes a horrible pain in the ass to use more than one. I really wish I could set it up so that pressing my #1 hotkey would put that spell on my mouse button, not give me a one time fire of that spell.

You know where your attack is mapped? Those two little buttons in the middle of the bar at the bottom?  Right click on those buttons and you can map stuff to left and right click.

I've been playing nonstop all holiday weekend.  I'm basically satisfied, but one of my favorite characters was just wiped by a crash bug.  I got to the transfer between Egypt and the next stage and my computer reset out of nowhere.

I had to go to a party, so I started up the next day and found that my character was just gone.  I haven't found a way to get him back either.

I have several characters, but my main two are (were!):

Storm Warrior - LvL 33 or so I think.  He's just starting Epic level now.

Summoner (Nature/Earth) - was lvl 29 before got crushed by the crash god.

My summoner was gliding through the game at record speed due to plenty of pets and FIRE!  I'll do another one.  It was too fun watching the bodies fly after dropping a firebomb on a group.

May I suggest some +defensive ability and +dex? +dex also gives you +piercing damage/+crit chance, both of which are hawt. Defensive ability gives you damage avoidance and -crit chance (against you).

I have this down, but what im saying is, I wish if I put say Fireball at #1 in my hotbar, and fireblast at #2, I wish if I press 1, it would bind it to my right mouse button, for as many times as I want, and then if I pressed 2, it would switch my bound spell to the place of fireball on my right mouse. As it stands now, you can bind one spell to your right mouse. If I want to use a different spell, I press #1, then left click, and it uses that spell, once. If I click again, its back to the previous binding. Does that make sence?

I would really like to see a huge discussion on builds as this game unfolds. I seem to be reading/ understanding now that melee builds come up to speed later and are more gear dependant than the caster ones. First glance caster looks to be much more powerfull but the depth of classes here is really very good. I for one really like this game and the depth of classes / playstyles. And Im a altaholic so this is like a pile of crack to me. Oh well, its fun and worthy of thought. Im off then to try out a storm/ defender "paladin" build. Let me know what you've come up with. The fire/spirit  "too many pets" build does well but its kinda like watching a movie.

Imo, the only to way to melee is as a hybrid. With a wand  :-P.

Which is to say that casting, wanding, self buffing, and armor (plus Warfare skills like Battle Rage) work better.

Or....

If you are going to make melee, go with Warfare + Spear and Shield. At least with High Dex, you get more secondary benefits than you would if you had high Strength. And you've got more protection than the average dexer as well.

Melee sucks on legendary, on legendary you pretty much need to have some pet to tank unless or you have to play extremly carefuly. I think they fucked up on legendary in that the mobs do waaaaaay to much dmg. Would've been better if they increased their hp more then instead.

The most imba build I've seen so far is Earth / Spirit. Using a combination of skills from there you can get the best tank pet ( Core Dweller ) and very very high dmg ( mainly due to tension attack or whatever it's called ). My friend has been playing around some with a couple of diffrent melee builds. Hunting / Defense with spears seems to the best combination for extreme dmg ( 3200 DPS at level 42 ) and a good chunk of survivability. You will still get your ass handed to you on legendary though. Personaly I play a Hunting / Warfare spec using bows. I die A LOT so my lvling has been halted, but I can farm most places as soon as I learn how the mobs are placed. I think when my hunter is fully decked out in legendaries it will be one of the better builds.

Just to note. Spirit's teanion attack (you gotta love these fonts) is 3 times the damage of the wand your using, that is to say this attack seems to scale much better than any other caster attack, melee attacks tend to scale as this, but other than this caster attacks dont. Just wanted to call out an unsementry that seems to be.

I heard some people were having trouble with the game crashing and their characters getting corrupted.

So I kicked together a little MFC app in short order. Point it at your Titan Quest data dir (which it should autodiscover on startup), hit 'Backup Now'. Get screwed over? Hit 'Restore Now'.

Also includes a handy-dandy 'launch TQ' button (untested) with start-with-PVP-enabled checkbox (untested).

Source and binary included.

Requires Unicode, so it won't work on anything older than Win2k, and it hasn't been tested at all on anything but my gaming box (XP SP2). It hasn't borked my save files (so far), but don't blame me if it horks on yours.

Apprently not, mine is, um, a little larger, as the actor said to the Episcopal bishop. :)
There's a width x height limit of 150 x 150. That will break some animated GIFs if you try to upload them (they'll get converted to a single frame PNG) unless you are clever enough to resize it yourself before hand. Linking to an external URL was a workaround cause it would use height and width tags to scale the image for you.

Ok I'm up and running, just in time for my zero weekend playtime to screw me.  I'm going to work my Slayer build up first, should be fairly no-brainer.

Warfare:
-Onslaught full line (bread and butter attack)
-Dodge Attack
Hunter:
-Wood Lore (Atk speed buff)
-Call of the Hunt (Atk speed buff, really need to know what the cooldown is on this one...)
-Study Prey & Flush out (defense debuffs)

That is the basic framework I have in my mind, obviously tweaks will be made as performance dictates.  The endgame plan is to have a spear using high dex warrior that has a fairly high level of party support skills.
*shrug*

Plan B is for him to at least get the cash/gear to twink my other two template ideas.

Pet hp scales on harder difficulties. As you will see, mobs cast lvl 6 traps on legendaries which are harder to kill than the actual mobs. Core Dweller can even tank a decent ammount of hits of minotaurs on legendary, and they one shot pretty much every player.

I'm pretty much fucked on my char I think, almost time to reroll another one.

I had to respec out of alot of damage skills and full dodge/full magma casing (basically a cocoon where you can regen hp).  Problem was still when I got out of the casing I was 3 hit by a minotaur.

I don't have enough intelligence to make the summon skills really count (int adds to spells right?).

Maybe I'll reroll, what's not taken? :p

I bought the game 2 days ago. In the demo, I played both Warfare and Earth. My retail toon is a level 11 Earth/Nature aka Summoner. Currently exploring the Halcyon Coast in the Megarea region.

It's pretty fun so far. I have both the Core Dweller and the Wolf. The Wolf is kind of fragile, especially when he and the Core decide to pick fights with different mobs, and I follow the Core. Support your tank, and all that. Fortunately, this doesn't happen too often, and the Wolf is relatively cheap to resummon anyway.

I run the Earth Enchantment buff, the Nature buff that enhances health, and the fire shield.

I usually use the default Staff attack in combat, with the occasional Volcanic Orb thrown in for good measure. I stay close to my pets during fights, so that the auras will help them, and also so that the fire shield gets used.

The way my assassin works is in an attempt to really abuse Calculated Strikes - every 4th hit = massive damage. So I get that, plus the skill above it (some non-4th hits will do extra damage and bleeding), plus Dual Wield. The idea is for every second or third click to proc Calculated Strikes. If you go up the DW tree, you get things that will hit multiple targets with 1 click - I'm not sure how these extra swings are treated as of yet.

Also, my abilities have (or are going to have) innate high piercing damage to ignore armor, and also bleeding and poison dots to spread damage around as I clear a circle of enemies around me.

I'm starting to get dodge and flash powder so that I can survive being surrounded by mobs. The only times I seem to have trouble now is extra-high dmg stuff in my face, like multiple elite casters, those damn flaming dual-wielding guys, and bigass turtles. The turtles just take forever to kill.

I play a Slayer myself. If you plan on using spear, then hunting / defensive is MUCH better. If you plan on using bow I would drop the onslaught line entirely and go for marksmanship. Puncture Shot alone is better than all the skills togheter in the onslaught line if you use a bow. I don't have a clue if warwind works at all with a bow, but I would think it doesn't. Lacrete seems to require a sword or an axe so that's a no no. The hunting tree looks well placed apart from marksmanship. I'd try to max out Trail Blazing as well though, run speed owns.

Going to see if I can add some survivability @ L31 by basically pimping out stone form and fire return.  Should be interesting, won't have any damage though, only defense with a shield.  My char is pretty much fucked, since I can't change stat points :P

Or, I can pick up the War Horn skill and see if that stun + health reduction improves my survivability too.  Since I pretty much rip shit up.

Hehe, I use bows. I'm gonna tell you this straight away just so that you know in case you're a min maxer, warfare + hunting sucks big time with spears, it's totaly inferior to hunting + defense. This is mostly because you can wear a shield with the spear. Look at the passive skills which you can use with a shield in defensive. Also, colossus form is nice as hell.

12th Conjurer (Earth/Spirit).  Not sure why all the Earth haite, I'm having fun and seems ok.  I sic my fire elem on the enemies, get them to bunch up around him and lay the smakdown with a volcanic orb (fireball).  Pick up lewt. Repeat.

It seems so sometimes, because I run into spawns sometimes that require more running around and potioning than actual fighting. That's where I am now, almost 15th and on the road to Athens (no Bing Crosby).  And the gorgons, I beat them without a single mana pot.  My fire elem tanked and I shot with the wand, tossing in a spell as mana recharged.  For some reason they came at me one at a time, even after I had aggroed all three.  Weird.

So, my Slayer is L24, so far so good really.  I hit a not-enough-dps bump for a second early in Egypt but I did some gear hunting and got some upgrades and now I'm plowing through.  Should be done with ActII or whatever we're calling it tomorrow I'd wager.  On the plus side everything I planned works well, on the downsides the early skills were no-brainier now I'm having to think more what order to take things in.  Also the character until 24 only had two non-passive skills I prefer melee to caster but I'm sort of used to more hotkeys then that.  Things should be looking up though as I'm starting to move into the hunter tree, which will give me some castable stuff, of course suddenly I may have to start thinking about energy which isn't a good thing really...

Name is Corax, props to Yoru who gave me a kickass shield and weapon in a f13 twink game (still using the shield, it pwns).

I'm thinking of running a game while I'm at work tomorrow so people can xfer stuff between characters or throw stuff on mules or just dump stuff they dont need.  I've got a shitton of decent-good greens for the late teens to 2X lvl's and I figure there might be some people out there who could use them.  Also some blues that dont help my character.  I'll post more details in the morning but if anyone knows that the game has an /afk kick feature or anything like that now would be the time to tell me.

You get more bags later on; right now I have two full bags full of twinking loot, one bag about half-full of potions and the rest is 'working space' used to haul stuff to market so I can maintain my very expensive potion crack habit.

When soloing, I pick up yellow stuff and above (meaning huge income, but slow progress). In multiplayer, particularly when we're blitzing like we did today, I don't pause for anything that isn't green. Pretty much only epics and legendaries cause the group to pause, find out what the items are, and distribute accordingly.

Oh, I take back everything bad I ever said about nature. Maxed Heart of Oak & Tranquility of Water is sweet (double your health instantly) and the Grow Trees ability is ridiculously broken. Any melee boss is a complete chump with trees; you grow them near the boss, the boss gets stuck trying to melee you and tends to basically have a seizure while you puncture his flesh from a short distance.

I'm trying to come up with an Assassin or Brigand build which uses bleed.  There seems to be a lot of potential synergy there.  Assassin has an ability that gives a 33% chance of a 140 bleed when maxed out and a skill that increases bleed damage by 120% when maxed.  Hunter has a lot of abilities that allow you to shoot crazy amounts of arrows, with additional bleed chances.  Warrior just lets you get off lots of dual wield attacks.  Both builds take a lot of investment to work in the long run but seem interesting.

It can be confusing to be able to tell what abilities work with which weapons, etc.  Has anyone seen a good description of this.

I'm going through with an Assassin right now, and I just started getting the rogue bleed abilities. As of now though, most things don't live long enough for the bleed damage to make much of a difference.

I'm really questioning the design choice to make life leech a DoT instead of instant...  I'm going to need a supply of the treachery of set relics or something.

Yeah, I really wish the weapon/based life leech things were instant...the DoT is almost useless if I 2-shot everything.

There are some items that are instant.  They are described as 6% damage goes to life or mana as opposed to the x% chance that xx hps go to life over 5 seconds, etc.  Those are item specific though.  I haven't seen any powers that do that.

I noticed I didn't start seeing those items until the end of normal mode.

Oh, and just as a general observation....

I just got to the Parthenon in Athens....

While I thought the art so far was pretty damn good in the game...they took a very lazy approach to replicating the Athena Parthenos. I was disappointed.

Gimpness aside, I don't see how you guys can even cope with the targeting and control of melee. I find it really cumbersome.

Not sure if this has been addressed, but if you're real lazy just press and hold the left mouse button to autoattack, while holding down shift. Now move the mouse around while holding down those two buttons.

If there are 3 enemies to your north, just put the mouse NW, N, or NE. you'll kill them one at a time without pressing anything (just hold down shift and left click)

If while you're killing those 3, another guy approaches from the south, just move your mouse south of your character.

The shift-targeting is key for larger multiplayer sessions. With 3-4 people, the swarms get pretty massive - I can only imagine what it's like with 6 - so I tend to hold down shift and SPRAY arrows in the general direction of the swarm. It works best for hunters if you can get all the dudes in a big long line, such as when they're coming around a softly curving corner - the outdoor maenad/satyr camps work best for this. In conditions like that, a hunter can lay out 30+ dudes at once with a few shots.

life leech is useless even with the insta kind. You can't out leech something that kills you in 2 hits at legendary, archers kills me in like 5 and seldom comes alone.

Yeah, I like to let smaller packs surround my assassin, drop a Flash powder, and just turn in a circle while things die.

Now that I read that bleed damage is heavily resisted by undead I'm rethinking that plan (although a knife/net-throwing Brigand could do a lot of ranged bleed damage and I may try the build some time).

I think I am going with an avenger.  He'd be heavily invested in bows with just enough Earth to get Brimstone 12 and add some fire damage.

Since this seems to be a thread for discussing characters:

In addition to dexterity, should I raise intelligence or strength with my Avenger?

Argument for strength: I am going to max out hunting mastery and so I'll have strength already.  Concentrating on this will allow me to wear lots of armor.

Argument for intelligence: I can actually use the stat (for energy regen).

It's not clear to me, other than armor values, if int armor or str armor is best.  It seems that maybe int/dex is though?

I just hit Egypt (Act 2) last night with my Spellbreaker who's really a Warrior (I invested 2 points in lifetap I think). I ripped through Greece pretty efficiently and at the end was able to tank the endboss with a minimum of fuss. We'll see how it goes in Act 2, I'm only a level or 2 away from maxing out my skill bar and being able to purchase 360o whackity-wack.

It helped that I looted an incredibly uber blue necklace off the mino lord. A damage with + damage! AND + damage %! AND more besides. What's not to love.

I just got to Egypt. The Knossos bosses were actually a lot easier than I thought for my 19 Assassin. Both went down without too much fuss...the Minotaur was actually harder than the Telkine.


...I didn't get much loot for my trouble though. Best I got was a relic piece that completed a set.

The bosses are often surprisingly poor for loot; I think their advantage is just that they sprinkled a handful of normal-drop-rate chests around most of the bosses so you get a few different rolls on the loot tables. Most of the stuff I've gotten that isn't from the end boss has come from completely random sources - rarely one of those awesome boss Majestic Chests, generally from some random skeleton or bone pile - probably because I'm whacking/opening hundreds of the latter and only opening a handful of the former.

lvl 26 Corsair (defense/rogue). 


I love it, it's good solo but it's realy going to shine in multiplayer. I'm raising my defense skill first with some minor investment in calculated strikes and blade honing.  The passive shield smash are incredible (especially pulverise which lets you hit 3 targets with your regular atks + increased dmg).  I'm torn between a knife/powder thrower or a trap layer for long term development (lvl 35 +).

I should finish the first difficulty this weekend.  I'll try to join some f13 games for some multiplayer goodness.

There's three maps, Egypt being the second. I found Egypt slightly (1-2 hours) shorter than Greece, but I blitzed the last hour or so instead of methodically clearing it, whereas Greece I methodically cleared the whole way through. The final map took me another 1-2 hours less than Egypt the first time, but this time I was blitzing pretty much from the get-go. Greece took me about 10 hours on the /played meter I think.

The above post is of course correct. Well except theres three acts 3 times. so as far as the game goes you haven't found the restrooms yet. (neither have i. and theres no harm in that). but each level cranks up the difficulty.

Ok, I'm chugging my way through Egypt right now. I just got to the Nile Floodplains, and I'm still clearing every map as completely as I can...though I missed a sub-quest back in Greece somewhere....something about a guy lost his goods by some ruins or something. I never found them, or at least I didn't notice them.
