1. I made the spoil rate as low as is allowed (.1).
2. I turned off drop items on death but corpses will still exist because bashing someone with your own leg is rad.

In and playing, although no Discord for me. The connection won't handle voice and game. Barely handles game.

But as long as we're not PvPing that doesn't matter too much.

Lots of changes since I played last, but it actually feels a lot easier. Maybe just because I now know a lot of the newbie tricks.

We're past ten people having requested access. If this becomes an issue, we'll upgrade the server. Chances of us all playing at the same time is low though.

I'm going to do the odd thing and instead of heading north right off I'm going to see how well I can do down in the newbie region. I'm not looking forward to fighting spiders with my lag for a while anyhow.

I'll be down to join up if ya'll still got space. FYI, having a low rot multiplier isn't necessarily a good thing as rotten meat is required for compost which is required for growing your own Aloe plants for potions which becomes a thing when you move up north where there's zero aloe.

Me, too.  I've had this game since it came out... someone gifted it to me because I think naked people are hilarious.  I have just played with the single player and I've only got a little bit past the first oasis-y area because I fiddle around too much. 

Some day I plan to have an insane rant about naked men.  Right here.  On f13. 

I've played it enough solo to have fallen into the habit of instantly making myself a neat little fort and working from there. I need to stop that and head on up north and join the Borg. That's part of the real fun of Minecrafty games like this, seeing what everybody else is building.

With everything set highest it runs fine on my 1070.

I run at ultra on my 980ti.

At 4k resolution highest settings there’s a bit of a performance dip on my office 970 in some areas.  Still playable even then.  At lower resolution or on the 1080 at home there are no issues

I'm running an Nvidia 1060 with only 8GB of system RAM on high settings and it runs fine. Though I did see a few hiccups after playing about 90 minutes (like memory leak type pauses for a second at times) but nothing unplayable.

It occurs to me that all the talk/organization for the server is probably going on over on discord, which I neglected to follow the invite for. No, I don't have any actual problem with discord (I use it preferentially over Skype for video chat), but I don't have it installed on my gaming machine. Don't need the bandwidth hit when I'm playing.

Anyways, the reason I'm posting is that if there was ever a link given to donate to the running of the server I don't mind throwing a few dollars into it, so PM me or post it here or whatever. Or I can keep freeloading if that's what we're doing to.

Last few days I've only seen like one or two people on at a time, but then I play at weird hours, so maybe everyone isn't already tired of it after a week.

I have this and burned myself out a bit when it was released (in a terrible state compared to now). I was tempted to come back, but the reason why I did not even consider the f13 server is the lack of PvP. What the hell is wrong with you people?

I might turn on pvp for certain hours after people are level 60 and get burnt out on base building. Frankly though, people just wanted to play a game with eachother. There's a billion games where we can kill eachother and we're not playing those soooooooo

HAHA. I don't know how many more times I have to repeat that i have never been a wolf in any PvP MMORPG I've played. I like PvP cause I enjoy the challenge of surviving humans instead of bots. That's it. The predictability of AI enemies is perfectly fine... in single player games.

A few hours in, I'm enjoying myself.  Minecraft with dongs.  I can dig it.

I built a little house on the beach and built an armorer's bench but I haven't figured out how to get a skinning knife to get hide.  Is the general idea of the game that I should be on the move to find more resources (I assume I need iron to make a knife), and build new settlements as I go rather than having a static base of operations?  And if so is there a direction I should aim for?

The building aspect of this game makes me really happy, even with just the shitty little stone box I've built so far.  I can see how you could build some really cool shit with this system.

Desert area is to get accustomed to how stuff works, then move past the wall to the temperate area, or east to the jungle. Level up to build bigger stone boxes.

With no-corpse-run on, build your biggest base wherever suits your fancy (but explore everything before you decide)--you can essentially suicide-teleport between bed and bedroll. Plus once you can build a map, lots of places are close by. I have a desert base that's my main drag but now a house in the north too. Plus you can torture people pretty easily wherever there are people to be tortured and then stick 'em in your inventory until you get home. (plus if some of us get guilded, everyone can use our torture wheels)

I made everyone an officer so everyone should be able to invite other people now.

The thing I like best about the building is working with the landscape. You can interweave your structures with natural landscape features in some really cool ways. I do sort of wish you could deform the landscape a bit here and there (tunnels, watercourses, etc.) but I get why that's a whole different thing.

Fort Butters is waaay to sprawly to fit into a screenshot easily now, especially since I had to expand to fit all the shrines inside...apparently there's a limit on how close you can put temples to each other.  Guess the gods are bitchy that way.

I'm currently building Robot Pirate Island next to the bridge between black dong and the black keep.  All it will be is a giant multi-story block building filled with dancers, pillows and incense  :oh_i_see:  it's in a frostbite area, so keep warm if you visit...

I'm building Chaco Canyon Mark 2 in the middle of the desert area, plus a nice cozy northern getaway.

I couldn't build around the tree behind the house, but I built close enough to have a roof-ramp go to the spiral ramp around the tree for access.

Yep, 2 named fighters, 2 named archers, named carpenter, named armorer, 2 named performers that I've seen so far. With the usual 1-3 drek. Usually 1 named up at any time at least, most often Mei the Blade. They all spawn in the thrall group right around the Derketo trainer. Otherwise it's various apes and chickens, with lizard-rhinos and spiders south across the water.

My wife built that House of Pain, and the Box o' Slaves is a public service. Grab anything you like from there.  :grin:

Also, if there's anything you want me to watch for on my slaving runs of the Black Galleon, just lemme know. I usually only take named slaves, now that the HoP has named/grade-3 thralls on all stations, but I can capture anything I come across if you need one.

There should be some that spawn in the Pagoda itself. There's two really nice named NPCs that spawn there on the reg.

I've got named for all my stations, I swing by every now and then looking for named entertainers for the Robot Pirate Island dance hall but that's really all i'm looking for.

The "Treehouse of Horrors" is coming along nicely.  It's got a wheel of pain, now it just needs a BBQ and some comfy lawn furniture.  And dancers.

I made it to Castle Black Dong.  It was an epic run.  Only closest to early EQ zone crossings.

If you go near my bedroll in BlackDong (bedroll with 3 chests next to it), I left an extra Imiu of Derkheto there.


For Black Dong, I upgraded the smelters and armorers, and left some extra high priests and others in the crafting area out front if anyone needs.


If anyone sees any named carpenters or tanners I could get I'd appreciate it, I can't seem to find those at all after a week at the boat and swamp. Rayne, Sigyn, Valenso, and Inigo just don't like spawning for me.

Derketo trainer has ?poscore nimblefingers? a carpenter who spawns right next to the trainer, should be an extra in the box there, along with a spare named tanner from the volcano well.

As much as I like that area, unless it's a Mei then i tend to have bad luck there. Your new hotel is looking good though :grin:

Pretty sure it's just my crappy internet connection (which gets even more crappy in the summertime) but is anybody else having major lag and connection issues? Especially the find a server screen -- that one can take minutes to populate, and yes I have Bat Country favorited.

I found my way over to Hotel Rattran while trying to find the Derketo trainer.  I'm pretty much due west from there, on an island in that river.

Is the general idea with those massive NPC settlements to just bring a giant brute squad of thralls with you so you don't have to fight them 5v1?

Similarly, does equipping a thrall with a truncheon to have them help knock out other NPCs not work?  I gave that whirl last night (I have one fighter thrall but haven't successfully captured any more because they're always too tough for me to knock out) and my thrall just ran around helplessly while I got my ass kicked by a dude with a hammer.  My current thinking is to just gear up on heavy armor now that I've figured out where the iron is but curious if there are any other tricks.

I can't get thralls to follow me any more anyhow so I'm not sure if they are ever useful.

So is managing the giant mobs a matter of just gearing/statting up and swinging a big axe around (and trying to save the one you want to capture, if any, for last)?

You’re limited to 1 thrall following at a time, except for those times when it’s broken and you can’t have any.

Getting a t2/t3 truncheon helps, as does the first strength perk.

I haven’t tried equipping them with a truncheon—no idea if it works.

The best use I've found for thralls that follow is the bearers hauling 500 extra stone around while gathering materials. Otherwise, their combat AI is too bad to be considered for anything other than defense, and defense only by sheer weight of numbers. I'd never try to drag thralls along for offensive combat duty.

As for taking on the giant hitpoint sponge mobs that are the bosses, best tactics we've found so far have been to kite them with Set snake arrows and/or run them around until they get stuck on some world geometry and poke the fuck out of them before kiting them with more arrows and the occasional asspoke to keep them interested. It's hella fun to pull the dragons from the unnamed city to the oasis outside Muriela's Hope and have them fight with the giant boss rhino while whittling them down with arrows and the aforementioned ass pokes.

Only problem with using the thralls to help haul is that they aren't real nimble footed. Lost one of my early haulers off a stair, although I did manage to loot that sweet medieval style backpack off his crumpled body.

Of course, now the thrall I was storing it on refuses to let me back into his inventory, or pay any attention to me at all now. I'm told it's a known bug from having thralls before you join a clan.

In other news, might not be on much (I know, what shall you all do?) as I managed to burn out an amplifier in my network leaving me with only high latency satellite for the next week or so until I can get some replacement parts in.

Been having fun building roads and bridges connecting the various settlements though, which I can mostly safely do while laggy as hell.

I remember there was some kind of badass subway system on the f13 Minecraft server.  There isn't any way to soup up those horizontal elevators, is there?   :drill:

Researching more it sounds like they don't scale up, so you can't build a single lift that takes you across the continent.  Oh well.

Pretty sure you can change mods on a server on the fly, and some have been made for speeding up/improving elevators if you want to go that route.

Map grid with coordinates (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=864992037&searchtext=grid) is about as close as I can find for in-game location communication, and would not mind this being turned on.  Outside of the game, maybe for discord pinned sites, there is a  shared map using Google API (https://github.com/ProbablyAimee/ConanMap).

As for other mods, I'd be down for faster elevators, it's a PVE server so an elevator going faster isn't going to change anything.

The boss HP mod I'd like but would not mind if others want it it off as it does change the game a good bit (even if it is in a good way and is more like a fix for this game than anything).

I'm not a fan of things like unlimited encumberance, stam, stack size, etc though.

The bosses are right now pretty tedious, yeah. I just messed around with the giant spider in the desert and it couldn't really kill me unless I stopped trying but it would have taken me about an hour + to whittle it down to death.

I've been playing on a server with my RL friends. We added 2 mods - LT's Compass and Minimap (little minimap with compass directions and coordinates on it) and Pickup+ (allows you to pickup a piece you've created like a crafting station or wall) and put it in your inventory without dismantling it, so you can move all your crafting stations without having to rebuild them. I've looked and the only one I saw that had map markers for your clan mates was Pippi User and Server Management and they disabled the map options so we don't use it.

Our second Purge hit the server last night. One of my buddies had decided to build a base out of sandstone right next to the obelisk at the Mounds of the Dead. That was the place the purge picked and it was intense. Waves of 2 groups of 4-5 naked T3 Cimmerians (archers and fighters) coming at the building with hate in their hearts. They weren't normal T3's either, as they could pop me with 2-3 hits (I'm level 57 with over 400 hp in heavy armor). It took a concerted effort of 4 of us with gaseous orbs (wearing a sandstorm mask protects you from the gas) whittling them down. I came in late and still saw something like 5 waves and died 3 times. I don't know how the purge picks its location but if it's in the right place it can be devastating. His building had luckily only been built two days prior which meant he didn't have hardly any thralls protecting it and he chose a bad spot.

I've actually deliberately built my manor down on the Newbie River in Dong Country. I'm hoping all the savages go north to hit the more populated forts, since my little place wouldn't hold up to any kind of concerted assault.

Purges in the newbie zone are Tier 1 level mobs - hyenas and I think some werehyenas. Mounds of the dead was Tier 3.

There seems to be several poor or not well updated map apps out there.  This seemed the best to me:  https://www.conanexilesmap.com.  Are there others?

Also, is death/rez and obelisks the only way to fast travel?

That one looks like the best one I've seen and we've looked at many. Death/rez and obelisks are the only fast travel, though there are some portals at the Temple of Frost that look like they are either going to be travel portals or portals to dungeons that haven't been added to the game yet.

I'm having problems with combat on Bat Country.  I can craft, gather and build fine but all the animals and npc's seem to be standing still and don't react when I attack until they either disappear or I can't see them attacking me back.

The B&N took advantage of the nether being 8x smaller to speed up travel. Pop into the nether, travel 1000 blocks, pop back to overworld and you traveled 8000 blocks.

I built some neat subway systems in Minecraft (like pull a lever and have a car from your destination replace the car you are taking there -- yes I know there are more *clever* ways to do it but I liked to keep my engineering kinda real-world possible-ish) but never thought of running it through the nether.

I would say that the lack of any means to build circuits and machines will mean that interest in Conan Exiles will wane soon, but then you never know what modders might come up with.

I set up my latest house on a cliff overlooking the river right across from the NPC village I'm practicing my thrall-taking on, with an overhanging balcony, so that I can do a high dive into the river rather than having to waste precious seconds running down to the beach.  Being able to build tall towers that use gravity in more interesting ways to facilitate fast travel would be nice.

I want to build a castle in the jungle but boy is it populated with horseshit and nonflat surfaces.

One of those jungle obelisks is hard as fuck to find even with a map because it's literally on a 3-tiered fucking cliff. There are some interesting base spots - the "basement base" underneath one of the beach temples was interesting.

What mods are best?

The two I was using on my private server were Pickup + (pick up crafted items like walls and crafting stations and move them) and LT's Minimap and Compass (self-explanatory). I had to disable them with the patch though.

The ones that allow you to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.

This is really a good argument over modding private servers at all. Unless we have the ability to deliberately freeze the server's patch level until the mod authors can catch up then this happens every major (and many minor) patch.

But that said there is a builder's mod that adds things like mason line and cheap scaffolding that I thought looked cool...

Looks like attention might be waning. As I'm still enjoying puttering around in the environment I'll ask ahead of time if, in the event of the inevitable eventual server shutdown, does our host provide the capability to download and backup the world? As in I would like a copy to mount locally and continue to putter around in.

I had a bad experience with this sort of thing the first Minecraft multiplayer world I played in. I got lucky in that my first experience was with a bunch of people who were seriously creative. There were entire cities built, linked with subways and overhead rail systems and some truly interesting architecture on display. It wasn't just min/maxed functional, it was visually attractive and fun to walk through and see what everybody was working on.

Unfortunately the guy who started the server got bored first, "forgot" to pay the monthly fees, and also forgot to locally store the backup.

Yeah. I figured that. Here is where my playstyle conflicts with the majority. I'm perfectly fine with dropping in and tinkering with a construction for an hour or two once or twice a week or so.

Since this has been officially abandoned by f13, how about going ahead and transferring the world backup copy to me? I'd like to host it locally and keep messing with the stuff I started, without having to bother Schild at three thirty or whatever in the morning when I get an urge to tinker.

I assume there is a way to do this, as in with Minecraft.

Yeah just look in Conan Exiles/ConanSandbox/Saves and overwrite your games.db file. You can always back up your old games.db file of course if you have a solo game you want to keep.

The first load seemed to take a while, but once in seemed fine.
