Title: So Long Post by: HaemishM on April 27, 2006, 05:53:15 PM I began writing for f13.net over two years ago, and I've had a helluva time writing here. I've appreciated all the great comments and arguments and discussions and exchanges and insults that have surrounded my writing. I've appreciated the support you've all given me.
But times change. The last few months, it's become clear to me that if I ever want to make my way as a professional writer, I have to do it my way. In that spirit, I've decided to open up my own game site, a place from which I can promote myself, my fictional writing, my movies, my politics and anything else I want to write about, without having to worry about what anyone else thinks. I hope that those who wish to continue reading my brand of craziness will seek it out. And so I present... /drumroll Game Angst.com (http://www.gameangst.com/) I hope to update the site with stories at least 2-3 times a week, depending on what I'm thinking about or playing. It won't just be games, though that is certainly going to be a heavy focus. There'll also be movies and TV and books and comics and politics. I've been able to bang out a fair bit, and hope to be adding some of my older articles to the archive as I go along. Of particular interest is my "Mature MMOG" series that I started writing years ago. I hope to take a retrospective look back at those articles to see if I still feel the ideas therein are worthwhile. I'll still read here, post here, and be the same pain in the ass I always am. I just won't do it as a staff writer. Thanks for the memories. Now let's make some more. Title: Re: So Long Post by: stray on April 27, 2006, 06:00:19 PM Good luck, man. I'll be sure to check it out from to time to time. Even if I don't like games as much these days, you're always a good read.
The title of this thread is a bit dramatic though, don't you think? For a second there, I thought you were leaving completely. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Samwise on April 27, 2006, 06:05:48 PM You mean I get to read a new Haemish article 2 or 3 times a week instead of once a month? Sounds good to me, even if it does mean I have to add yet another damn site to my bookmarks. Good luck!
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Stormwaltz on April 27, 2006, 06:09:39 PM Bookmarked!
...Though if you're trying to make it look professional, I doubt we'll see as much of your customary... creative... metaphors. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Flood on April 27, 2006, 06:35:15 PM As someone with aspirations of being a writer, I applaud your initiative!
Best of luck in all your endeavors, and I will certainly visit your site. Title: Re: So Long Post by: WindupAtheist on April 27, 2006, 06:43:51 PM I'm not sure, but I think I just made the very first non-Haemish post on his forums. :-D
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Murgos on April 27, 2006, 06:47:48 PM Good luck Haemish. Good-bye, I will miss you.
Wait, your not leaving? Fuck, I wanted your post count. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Yegolev on April 27, 2006, 08:19:29 PM Good luck. At least you'll have WUA for company.
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Strazos on April 27, 2006, 08:44:09 PM It's so WEIRD to look at Haemish's posts, and see a Blue name, instead of an Orange name.
If I had a flag, it would fly at 3/4 mast or something. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Signe on April 27, 2006, 08:49:04 PM It's not like he's dead. He's on the same internet. He's probably just down the hall from here!
Title: Re: So Long Post by: WindupAtheist on April 27, 2006, 08:50:47 PM No, his name is BLUE now!
There's no coming back from that. It's like he's dead. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Signe on April 27, 2006, 08:53:58 PM Now, calm down, WUA. I didn't realise you were so sentimental. You're a sappy old fool. Be a man... like the hunky soldiers in my avatard! Hubba Hubba!
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Shockeye on April 27, 2006, 09:06:33 PM I will be giving up my position here as well. Samwise will be taking over the backend as soon as I can get together with him and show him all the bells and whistles. I, unfortunately, do not have time like I used to and need to focus on real life a lot more. It's been fun.

Be a man... like the hunky soldiers in my avatard! Hubba Hubba! Now that Haemish is dead (or whatever) let's tell stories about him. EDIT: Shockeye is apparently also dead. Someone is stalking F13. The heavy hitters have finally struck, and their blows are telling. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Strazos on April 27, 2006, 09:26:04 PM I will be giving up my position here as well. Not even enough time to make your own thread instead of hijacking Heamish's? :-P Title: Re: So Long Post by: WindupAtheist on April 27, 2006, 09:34:39 PM It's like when Mother Theresa died, and nobody noticed because they were still ironing the steering wheel print out of Princess Di's forehead.
Title: Re: So Long Post by: TheWalrus on April 27, 2006, 09:58:23 PM Gawdammit. Now I have another site to peruse and less useless news to look forward to. You guys suck. But good luck anyway.
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Oban on April 27, 2006, 09:59:23 PM Holy shit, Poseidon won.

(You KNOW someone had to say it) Title: Re: So Long Post by: Tebonas on April 28, 2006, 04:22:54 AM Thats what I call a grief link. Now I know why I never read that soap opera thread. From being a mortal enemy to "Brokeback forum" in ten pages. You sure he won?
Good luck with that site Haemish, as long as you are no stranger here. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Ironwood on April 28, 2006, 06:03:17 AM Um. Isn't this just what Arcadian did ?
I'm still waiting for his book.... Title: Re: So Long Post by: Arrrgh on April 28, 2006, 06:59:40 AM place from which I can promote myself, my fictional writing, my movies, my politics I wish game sites would just stay away from politics. There are countless political sites that do them far better, and if you're trying to promote your work why throw in things that will piss off half the audience? Title: Re: So Long Post by: Merusk on April 28, 2006, 07:10:40 AM Um. Isn't this just what Arcadian did ? I'm still waiting for his book.... Shhh. This time it's different. Haemish doesn't have a friend who owns a Chic-Fil-A and needs a manager. (Or I assume such.) Tho I wonder how that's going for Arc these days. He's been on X-fire a hell of a lot lately. He even beat me as 'biggest catass' in my network the last few weeks. Edit: Oh right, good luck H. Just take the advice of the last few guys and leave the politics out of it. Too many people these days are willing to throw out the baby with the bathwater just because you espoused a 'wrong' opinion on something. Title: Re: So Long Post by: bhodi on April 28, 2006, 07:12:51 AM Um. Isn't this just what Arcadian did ? I'm still waiting for his book.... Shhh. This time it's different. Title: Re: So Long Post by: tazelbain on April 28, 2006, 07:25:57 AM Blogs make more sense these days than sites. Kudos.
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Fargull on April 28, 2006, 07:29:35 AM Bookmarked.
White - Black Orange - Blue Gratz Haem. Looking forward to your work. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Soln on April 28, 2006, 07:49:20 AM is there a party? or a wake? can we at least get juiceboxes?
FWIW, Face of the Clock (http://www.f13.net/commentary.php?subaction=showfull&id=1110927804&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1&) was the first thing I read at f13 and it killed me. Well done and good luck. /bookmarked Title: Re: So Long Post by: Nebu on April 28, 2006, 08:09:43 AM Seems like a natural progression.
I've enjoyed your humor and your commentary, especially those times when we've disagreed. Good luck in the future! Title: Re: So Long Post by: WayAbvPar on April 28, 2006, 09:10:11 AM /sadf

Title: Re: So Long Post by: HaemishM on April 28, 2006, 09:56:23 AM place from which I can promote myself, my fictional writing, my movies, my politics I wish game sites would just stay away from politics. There are countless political sites that do them far better, and if you're trying to promote your work why throw in things that will piss off half the audience? Meh, if I haven't pissed off most of the people who read my work at least once in the last 4 years, I'd be surprised. As for why politics, I've been reading more on the history of the 20th century lately, and politics has been more on my mind than before. I wanted to write about politics in addition to the other stuff and that's not what f13 is about. With my own site, I can talk about whatever I want. Plus, with my own short movies (The Stalin Monologues) on there, political talk isn't much of a stretch. Maybe I can even get people to discuss politics without the word cockmonkey coming into it. Probably not, though, since I'm as guilty of that as the next guy. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Dren on April 28, 2006, 10:00:45 AM Good Luck.
Any way this will make games better now? It better. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Bunk on April 28, 2006, 12:15:55 PM Best of luck dude, and all that. Its not like i have the time to read sites at work anymore anyways (this post alone may get me in shit), but I'll be sure to come by and take a look when I can.
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Rasix on April 28, 2006, 12:55:31 PM So, do I get baniation and grief title powers now?
Good luck with your new endeavor, Haem. You too, Shock. Title: Re: So Long Post by: naum on April 28, 2006, 01:56:28 PM GL... ...have added you to del.icio.us (http://del.icio.us/naum), the 1st appearance for GameAngst on del.icio.us...
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Llava on April 30, 2006, 01:18:39 AM I will miss you both, my squishy worm babies.
(I don't know, it just came out that way.) Title: Re: So Long Post by: schild on April 30, 2006, 01:19:23 AM I will miss you both, my squishy worm babies. (I don't know, it just came out that way.) Babelfished through 3 languages and then back to english, rite? Title: Re: So Long Post by: Llava on April 30, 2006, 02:27:39 AM I will miss you both, my squishy worm babies. (I don't know, it just came out that way.) Babelfished through 3 languages and then back to english, rite? Sure, let's say that. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Lantyssa on April 30, 2006, 09:17:18 AM Or once through a Zim filter.
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Llava on April 30, 2006, 10:11:33 AM Or once through a Zim filter. THAT'S it! I must've been thinking of that "I'm a normal human worm baby" line, or trying to (for whatever reason) and it got stuck in my head. Good call. Anyways. Seriously, it's unfortunate to see you guys go, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Margalis on April 30, 2006, 12:47:51 PM Wait, who are you again?
 Title: Re: So Long Post by: Lantyssa on April 30, 2006, 01:35:20 PM You're welcome, you filthy disgusting human worm baby.
Title: Re: So Long Post by: jpark on April 30, 2006, 07:54:39 PM Haemish. You're one of the reasons I pay attention to sites like this.
Rest assured I will be visiting your new site. Cheers. Jpark. Title: Re: So Long Post by: Velorath on May 01, 2006, 07:37:01 PM Haem needs to add more content. I've already catassed my way through everything in less than a week and there's no end game. He needs to start thinking about rentention before people start closing their accounts and moving on to the next big web site that comes out. I told him during beta that he needed at least 300 hours of content ready before he went live. That the community wouldn't be interested in a site they could breeze through in a few days.
Title: Re: So Long Post by: Pococurante on May 04, 2006, 08:36:52 PM As for why politics, I've been reading more on the history of the 20th century lately, and politics has been more on my mind than before. I like taking my inner pedant out for a walk and f13 is one of those rare places I can do so without being Foxed. |
