Title: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: schild on February 23, 2006, 03:19:18 AM I've gotten some questions and requests about letting people make avatars taller. Also, some questions about images in your sig. Let's just get this over with since a few people think my avatar keeps getting bigger and bigger.
(http://www.f13.net/schild/avatar_MAX.jpg) 140x140 That's the size for your main avatar - it's been that size for about 6-8 months or so. I think it was 120x120 before. Anyway, it can be smaller than 140x140, or even oddly shaped, you could make it 30x140. Doesn't matter to me. But 140x140 is the max dimension. It's a good size and I don't particularly want to change it nor do I see a need to change it. That's already bigger than most places allow. That is the new size for a sig image. I suppose, after years of hating that shit, that it's time to just give up and let people have images in their sigs. So I took a look around the net at what consitutes way too huge. Anything x 100 was way too big. 500 x Anything was way too big. Now, as for allowing sig images. Let's get the important rule of 'good taste' defined. Good taste is defined by however mods feel on a particular day. Anything gaming/movie related is probably, for the most part, fine. Anything trimmed in politics is probably not so fine. Anything gross is not fine. So yea, just keep it worksafe and not ugly. If everyone starts doing it and it turns out to be one big clusterfuck, I'll just go ahead and make that stop. A note: If you don't want to see images in sigs or other people's avatars, you can turm them off. It is located here: Profile -> Look and Layout Preferences -> Don't show other users' avatars.|Don't show other users' signatures. It is a toggle. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. I dislike sigs (and animated avatars for that matter but I have a way of disabling those) so thanks for letting us turn them on and off.Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Signe on February 23, 2006, 06:16:49 AM Everytime someone makes a sig image, it steals a little bit of my soul.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Wolf on February 23, 2006, 06:22:17 AM my old wow sig image is awesome, it's bigger than the guildlines tho :(

Thanks for the guidelines, though. Turns out my next avatar was 150 wide :P Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Signe on February 23, 2006, 06:40:32 AM I would hate to get rid of people's text sigs, but I'll make the sacrafice to get rid of images. I hate them. All of them. Especially Wolf's.
I guess we have to have them because everyone else does? (http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/sheepholy.gif) Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Wolf on February 23, 2006, 06:50:59 AM Signe doesn't like me. I gotta get me one of them sig images so she won't like me even more. Hmmm... let's see if I can butcher that wow thing...
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Signe on February 23, 2006, 07:03:57 AM Of course I like you. I just think your taste in avatars is dire... but that doesn't mean I hate you. Anyway, don't be daft. If you get some horrible obnoxious sig, everyone else will hate you and I'll never see it. It will thwart your nefarious plan as I will be blissfully unaware of it and still accidentally liking you.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Miasma on February 23, 2006, 07:09:44 AM I like that there are no sig images here, they bother me too. Wolf's image took 45 seconds to load, bad omen. So long as I can turn them off I don't care though, let the sig lovers have their fun. Unless the option is "Turn off sigs" instead of "Turn off sig Images", I do want to see the text sigs.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Wolf on February 23, 2006, 07:19:25 AM Miasma, that's probably because of the hosting, it's actually smaller than Signe's avatar.
Signe, My girlfriend hates them too. It's obviously some girl thing, thank god I post on mmorpg forums. :) Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Sky on February 23, 2006, 07:56:38 AM Hosting or file size, it takes too long to load.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Furiously on February 23, 2006, 08:21:51 AM I dispise sig images. I know my signal to noise ratio is fairly (ok extremely) low, but sigs really seem to drop the overall ratio somehow.

Signe, My girlfriend hates them too. It's obviously some girl thing, thank god I post on mmorpg forums. :) The only girls who have expressed an opinon in this thread are me and Furiously. As you can see from her avatar, Furiously is a really ugly woman, but her opinion is valid none the less. Stop saying my name so much. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Rasix on February 23, 2006, 08:39:25 AM Terrific.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: WayAbvPar on February 23, 2006, 09:13:47 AM Some sig pics I don't mind, but when they are some 'artful' representation of someone's MMOG character, they make me want to kick the owner in the genitalia repeatedly. ESPECIALLY if it is a goddamned Night Elf.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Hoax on February 23, 2006, 09:14:40 AM Why'd this happen?
There are places for sig images, and I personally will never care about this type of shit but I hate to see Schild bowing to some kind of pressure from the teeming masses who just must have a sig image. I blame the mole & Cheddar, I'm sure it is his fault somehow. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Merusk on February 23, 2006, 10:08:47 AM Damn sig images.
What? Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Paelos on February 23, 2006, 10:11:12 AM Please god, no sig images. That was always something I liked about this board. It looked sophisticated and clean without a bunch of retarded pics cluttering up each post. If you let those in, we look like the fucking Vault.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Llava on February 23, 2006, 10:13:15 AM I found this on Google Image Search.
(http://www.neubinet.com/tr/wildfire.jpg) Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Signe on February 23, 2006, 10:33:23 AM I don't think the Vault (if by that you mean IGN's vnboards) allows sig images on their forums.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: NiX on February 23, 2006, 10:35:50 AM That's because it would crash the world and start the apocalypse
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Paelos on February 23, 2006, 10:45:51 AM I don't think the Vault (if by that you mean IGN's vnboards) allows sig images on their forums. I'm thinking of something else then. Either way, if even the Vault doesn't allow them, that should be a good indicator of how they suck. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Furiously on February 23, 2006, 11:10:36 AM You know - I'm feeling the burn. I might be changing my mind on signatures. Or it could be the mexican food I ate.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: schild on February 23, 2006, 11:36:15 AM Wow, coming back to this thread made me only want to do one thing. Delete Signe's sig image. Like I said, she had special rules.
Edit: I figure 90% of the people out there won't do anything with their sig btw. And that 10% that will are probably going to be in such bad taste that the board will still not have sig pics. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Paelos on February 23, 2006, 11:49:53 AM Yes opening the door for such freedoms on the internet can only lead to unmitigated disaster.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: MrHat on February 23, 2006, 11:50:19 AM Yes opening the door for such freedoms on the internet can only lead to unmitigated disaster. I lost. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: schild on February 23, 2006, 11:52:17 AM This could have been a fine idea. Positively and perfectly fine. Unfortunately, you people are bastards and don't deserve fun. Especially Hat. Who not only had an ass in his sig but it wasn't even a correctly sized ass.
Edit: But don't worry, I still love all of you. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Furiously on February 23, 2006, 11:53:15 AM No - we know what nice things are...and sigs ain't them.
Oh I guess we deserve sigs. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: MrHat on February 23, 2006, 11:53:46 AM (http://www.sloganizer.net/en/image,f13-dot-net,grey,white.png) (http://www.sloganizer.net/en/)
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: schild on February 23, 2006, 11:55:22 AM No - we know what nice things are...and sigs ain't them. Oh I guess we deserve sigs. The main reason I gave in to sigs was because of Xfile, gamertags and the like. They're going to become more and more widespread across the internet, and while I think Xfire is a pile of stupid, a lot of people live by it. And who knows, maybe the 360 will get good enough that people want to slap their gamertag in their sig. So I guess, the best solution would have been to just limit people's options for what they could have instead of being nice and making guidelines. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: MrHat on February 23, 2006, 11:56:19 AM Rules are made to be broken!
Guidelines are made to be uh, butchered and fed to livestock? Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Yegolev on February 23, 2006, 01:37:42 PM Either way, if even the Vault doesn't allow them, that should be a good indicator of how they suck. Used on Vault: bad. Not allowed on Vault: bad. Not sure I follow. Do you not like signature images or something? Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Signe on February 23, 2006, 01:55:18 PM Wow, coming back to this thread made me only want to do one thing. Delete Signe's sig image. Like I said, she had special rules. I will do it for you, my little sugar booger, since you asked so politely. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Signe on February 23, 2006, 01:56:25 PM Oh, you already did it, you little rat weasel. See? I didn't know because I couldn't see.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Paelos on February 23, 2006, 05:20:00 PM Either way, if even the Vault doesn't allow them, that should be a good indicator of how they suck. Used on Vault: bad. Post by: schild on February 23, 2006, 06:50:25 PM Signature are officially back to text. The fastest way to get feedback is to force it out of people. Next week we test the new combat system.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Signe on February 23, 2006, 07:42:59 PM Well, maybe we can just have really, really huge avatards instead.
Oh wait.... Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Ironwood on February 24, 2006, 01:44:20 AM Of course I like you. I just think your taste in avatars is dire... I would like to disagree. More Cute Asian Women Pls. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Strazos on February 24, 2006, 06:18:43 AM Seconded.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Signe on February 24, 2006, 06:24:19 AM Strazos? I thought you WERE a cute Asian girl!
And using the word "woman" seem a bit off. So far, they have all looked like cute Asian children. I suppose you lot don't want me going there, though, do you? Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: HaemishM on February 24, 2006, 08:40:31 AM Take one day off of work and miss all the good riots.
Sig pics are for people who overcompensate for something. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Triforcer on February 24, 2006, 04:46:41 PM We need more threads about asian women.
Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Velorath on February 24, 2006, 08:41:14 PM Of course I like you. I just think your taste in avatars is dire... I would like to disagree. More Cute Asian Women Pls. I don't mind the Cute Asian Women, but for whatever reason, I find the head tilts, winks, and smiles in Wolf's avatars to be annoying as fuck. So much so that I find myself skipping past every post he writes. They look like they're brought to life through the power of animatronics for fuck's sake. Title: Re: Avatar Guidelines. Post by: Bunk on February 24, 2006, 11:50:04 PM Wolf's avatars = good. Sig pics of any sort = bad. Schild has acted and all is good in the universe.
If people want gamer tags, they can post em in text. |
