Last month they announced it was delayed until early 2016, but it is supposed to be playable at E3. I'm expecting it to be severely scaled back in ambition from what they've shown previously of course.

Too lazy to do it, but let's call Fortnight "Tentative Trash."

I had completely forgotten about The Division. They must've seen Destiny and started getting second thoughts or something.

That actually sounds interesting, despite how whiny the article is. What seems "too deep" during a few hour press demo sounds like a reason to keep playing later.

At least we get another year of Aisha Tyler doing an incredibly awkward and cringe-filled Ubisoft presentation.  Lets see if we can up the French Canadian count this year.

Ubisoft are the ones who had Mr. Caffeine host a few years ago. Aisha Tyler's stuff is cringe-worthy (not entirely her fault), but it's nowhere near as bad.

And following some talk about Elder Scrolls online, Bethesda also announces The Elder Scrolls: Legends on PC and iPad. F2P strategy card game.

From what I've played of it so far it's pretty good. You could probably come up with your own opinion given that it's available and free.

Not a huge Doom fan, but overall Bethesda is going to be a pretty hard press conference to top and I can see why they felt this would be good time to do their first E3 presser. For me personally, it's going to take a Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement or a really good Mass Effect 4 reveal to top the Fallout stuff (at this point even if Last Guardian gets shown, I can't be bothered to give a shit).

Title: Re: E3 2015 schedule
Post by: Margalis on June 15, 2015, 02:25:16 AM
I hate pretty much every mobile game so I guess I just don't get it. Honestly they all look the same to me - I'm mobile game racist.

Doom 4 - seems ok I guess? There doesn't seem to be much going on from a mechanics perspective - you strafe around, you can jump (and double jump? Or maybe just ledge grab?) and you can do melee executions, just like in every other shooter. Will live or die based on the pacing, level design, enemy AI, etc. These aren't areas Id has excelled at in the past 15 years though.

Battlecry looked like a game that should have been cancelled already. Looked janky (the animation was terrible) and it's in a genre that is going to be pretty crowded. Maybe it's super fun and they have faith in the gameplay, but I'd be very nervous if I were them.

Fallout 4 looked good. I mean, it seems like the kind of game people who like Fallout would like.

Dishonored 2 was already known so the only surprise to me was the card game which I don't care about. That said it was a good press conference - lot of gameplay footage without being boring, not a lot of fat. Was a good idea to use videos and not do the dumb thing where a guy comes out on stage with a controller and pretends to play a prerecorded video while blabbing over it.

In terms of content I'm not really into shooters so it didn't excite me, but it was a well put together event.

Edit:

Announcing a game with a release date coming soon is something I hope becomes a trend. Ultimately I think it's better both for consumers and developers.

FFVII remake?

Title: Re: E3 2015 schedule
Post by: Velorath on June 15, 2015, 07:45:52 AM
They already announced the new Deus Ex game, so I'm not sure what else they could announce that I'd care about. That Duke Nukem Forever Final Fantasy XV will actually release sometime this console generation (after they've released some more focus tests demos)? That despite dropping the ball with FFXV, Nomura will totally get Kingdom Hearts III out in a reasonable amount of time? Will they cave and announce an FFVII remake, finally acknowledging that people would rather play a near twenty year old game than any of the crap they put out these days?

Obviously the FFVII remake seems the most likely. I wonder how many people really give a shit about a nostalgia wank though.

 :rock_hard:

Enough people to justify remaking it, is my guess.  I would also buy a remake of IX and XII.  I know a lot of you guys like to shit on FFVII, but I think the masses prefer it over all the others.

I love FFVII, but I don't trust Squeenix to do it right. If they turn it into a fully voiced, linear as hell cutscene fest like XIII then I'm not interested. The great thing about it (and the older FFs in general) is the gradually opening world with that sense of "I see a place I can't get to yet but eventually I'll have a boat/submarine/airship/gold chocobo..."

I don't think it's a matter of shitting on the game, but like I said, almost it's 20 years old now.  You can talk about the masses, but a good chunk of the audience at this point has never even played it, and the things that made it impressive at the time like the cutscenes, aren't impressive anymore. A remake is going to have to rely on the strength of the characters and story, and I really don't think either of those were a high point for the series.

FFIV/VI completely remade would be better. But I'm not watching their show because it's trash.

Just like everything else that wasn't Fallout 4. My schedule remains accurate.

So we have Doom 2015: The QuickTime-Ing, which while pretty did absolutely nothing for me.

Dishonored 2 was just cutscenes, and I haven't played the first one even though I own it and think I'll like it.

Fallout 4 looked like much sweetness, though.

That table holo was pretty cool... But I too feel it a bit scammy.

Lots of Xbox AND WIN10 stuff. They promoted WIN10 as much as Xbox. Makes me wonder why you would purchase an Xbox if you already have a decent PC.

More sequels and more "remastered" old games.

Yeah, I think I'll be getting the holographic thing because the old lady loved it. And she isn't into tech or gaming. But she thought the idea of watching minecraft like that is awesome.

Doesn't look playable as a 3d holograph yet, though. So squarely in the gimmick category.

The support for the Oculus Rift is cool, though. Hopefully that tech blossoms.

EA kicks things off with Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Edit: And by kick off with, I mean they showed a short trailer and then started talking about other stuff.

Need for Speed seems a little lifeless. Old Republic expansion sounds ok. They always have good CG trailers at least. Unravel looks very charming.

Meh. Let's show the least interesting parts of all 3 games (mako and planetary exploration) and then cutscenes about combat with an unknown force for an unknown reason.

After the last game, they're going to need to come more correct than that.

Between this, Pele, and Need For Speed, EA has given a lot of people who aren't native English speakers a lot of time to stand up on stage and talk rather than showing more of the games they're supposed to be introducing.

Although it looks good, and might be interesting 4x4 combat wise, it seemed too much like Dynasty Warriors (infinite incarnations) and something likely to be boring and/or repetitive. Title: Re: E3 2015 schedule
Post by: Fabricated on June 15, 2015, 07:03:44 PM
seriously, kickstarter is dead now

it has literally just been publicly taken over by the gaming industry and turned into their own pre-order tool. Like not just has-been devs and jilted devs who escaped the system, but the system itself.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3

someone email kickstarter and get their campaign pulled because Kickstarter's own TOS says that it's not a pre-order tool.

Not sure why Sony is announcing a kickstarter at their E3 conference. If they are that excited about it why don't they fund the damn thing?

Edit: Also Call of Duty. I was genuinely more interested in the TV stuff they were talking about that preceded this.

It belongs on there in that it comes from a guy who hasn't made a good game in at least a couple decades. Sega sure as hell isn't go to throw money at Yu Suzuki to make this game (they already got burned with that once trying to do Shenmue Online).

I'd maybe support a Space Harrier remake, but personally I thought Shenmue was dull as shit. Mostly I just think announcing a Kickstarter at Sony's E3 press conference was maybe a bit wrong.

As someone who has been pretty active on KS over the last few years and knows a bunch of very small (single person) businesses that primarily release new stuff funded by KS...the system is fine. The lesbian eskimos are not going unfunded because Sonysoft decides to utilize the most visible crowdfunding platform.

In fact, I'd say the wads of cash the big project push through KS/Stripe is helping a lot of smaller projects piggyback on improvements to the backend.

And complaining about it being a pre-order store is lulz, bro. Don't like it, don't pledge. Plenty of folks getting some sweet shwag with the 'pre-order' style projects (Zombicide, for instance)

Eye of the storm - Mad Max looks like it has potential.

Horizon looked meh.  No Man's Sky again gave an impressive demo and yet still fails to explain if it has any actual gameplay at all.

I really want to play X-Com 2 with the Hololens on my kitchen island.  That would be so fucking awesome.

That's about what I got from E3.

the doom 4 trailer should have just been absolute pure carnage then suddenly the marine stops, looks at a health pack on the floor, there's a quiet pause, he squints at it, turns around, walks into it backwards, gibs the thing that appeared right the direction he was facing, then he flips back around forwards and the rock music re-engages and it's carnage again until the close title

When it is the only thing they are releasing between Smash Brothers, Mario party, and games for the DS, it's pretty much the only thing they are throwing money at. It's a shooter for kids. Great for parents who don't want to buy violent games for their young ones.

The problem is that they're starting to fail at even the staple stuff we come to know as high quality stuff. The latest Mario Party, while adding a fun Bowser mode with the Wii U Pad, has been watered down to practically nothing in terms of skillful play and interaction. Everything seems to be all about Amiibos and cheesy one-trick ponies, with the occasional smash hit.

They may have the monopoly on low-budget, kid friendly stuffs, but even kids reach a point where they can tell the difference between good and bad quality game play.

On Mario Party:  He is not wrong.  This has always been a game where random chance had an impact on the outcome, but now it is basically completely random chance.  Whatever small amounts of "skillful play" used to be involved are more or less completely gone.  Worse, the game boards themselves are completely linear and without much imagination.  MP games have always fallen a bit short of the mark, but it is becoming worse with every iteration.

Here, try this for me real quick. Pick up your smartphone. Hold it about a foot in front of your face. Now imagine that the phone is a window into a parallel world. Through that window, you can see holograms that appear to exist in the real world—but all around that phone, you’re only seeing the world. In other words, you have to be looking directly at a digital object to see it, because HoloLens currently has a ridiculously tiny field of view. As soon as you turn your head a little bit, the holograms disappear.

Keep in mind when reading that though, when everyone Demo'ed it in January everyone had an almost complete FOV.

So yeah, version 1 is probably gimped due to limitations of the portable headset and power usage but what's shown is real, it's just using a full FOV hololens over the camera.

As always, tech is better after v1.

The demo in January was not hands-on. It was a "live demo" on stage at the Windows 10 event. Even the demo at Build 2015 was not for the general public.

I consider it to be in the same state that most game demos are at E3 (as fake as the tits at a porn convention) until proven otherwise. If it's real - great. Right now it sounds too good to not be complete bullshit. Especially coming from Microsoft who usually overhype their visionary ideas (Microsoft Surface and Kinekt come to mind in recent memory)

Um no?  Many journalists and people were able to put it on and wear it, just not the portable device you are seeing.  They were using a plugged in device with a backpack that could power the full FOV on the prototype but it was fully functional, including Minecraft, the Mars NASA demonstration, and some others.

I figured it was kinda like this, http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/24/tardis-ar-greg-kumparak/ (http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/24/tardis-ar-greg-kumparak/)

Doesn't the 3DS already do that with it's AR Cards?

I feel like I did mention Nintendo already did what Microsoft is trying to do, but maybe I dreamt it or was just vague or forgot context again.  Doesn't everyone on this board have a 3DS?

I'm sure in a few years someone will come out with a makermachine that can destroy and create in a flash that would do this for reals.

Have you seen how slow those goddamn makerbots are?  Gonna be more than a few years, and they're going to have to use something other than molten plastic.

My flying car was 10 years away in 1970...
