Title: Forum Avatars Post by: slog on July 31, 2012, 03:47:50 PM What are the limits for uploading animated Avatars? I tried doing one that is 644KB size 124 X 118 and I'm getting the error

Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Trippy on July 31, 2012, 04:16:41 PM Hmm...not sure what's going on yet.
Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Lantyssa on July 31, 2012, 04:42:30 PM Must be the poor taste filter catching it. Have you tried disabling that?
Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Trippy on July 31, 2012, 04:43:03 PM Didn't see an option for that.
Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: MahrinSkel on July 31, 2012, 05:03:43 PM I think there's a file size maximum on avatars built into SMF, something to do with the attachments settings (even though this forum doesn't do attachments per se, I think the same parameter is used for uploaded avatars).
--Dave Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Trippy on July 31, 2012, 05:29:30 PM There is but the above GIF is below that limit. it's also below the dimensions limits (140 x 140 is max). I forgot who it is who has it but there's that animated GIF of the two kids having a lightsaber duel that's larger in file size and larger in dimensions on the site currently.
Which is why I'm not sure what's going on yet. Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Evildrider on July 31, 2012, 05:56:26 PM I was having problems too when I was doing gifs as my avatar. I think something is just all f'd up somewhere.

Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Paelos on July 31, 2012, 08:23:58 PM Must be the poor taste filter catching it. Have you tried disabling that? It's less disturbing when you see the whole video and realize she's not disabled, just extremely lazy. Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Ironwood on August 01, 2012, 02:43:53 AM Seriously ?
Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Paelos on August 01, 2012, 06:33:05 AM Yep. She gets up and walks away after all that. Tosh.O did the full vid on their show.
Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Ironwood on August 01, 2012, 06:55:47 AM Karma does exist.
Or possibly she was crippled and the fall straightened her back. Maybe she'll now take on Bane and win. Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: shiznitz on August 01, 2012, 01:28:21 PM Karma would have been that woman getting a foot caught in the escalator so that she had to be in a motor chair for real.

My favorite was the 3 teenagers parking in the HC spot with their (I assume) grandmother's HC tag, though.
Too much bullshit PC-politeness behind handing out tags these days. We cant tell them they're just fat so just give it to them. Never mind that all the HC spaces at stores are taken by able-bodied people to the point I saw an ACTUAL HC person have to park up the aisle and crutch their way down to the store. You mean like 50% of people using a handicap parking tag? Don't get me started on that. My dad was an amputee and had a handicap parking tag. He first had the hang-from-mirror kind, then upgraded to the license plate once his cancer got worse and he was pretty much wheelchair bound. My friends couldn't figure out why I wouldn't park in the handicap spot when I was borrowing his car. People fucking suck. They had a stroller with them, containing a large cat. These two get to the counter and demand their cat be allowed on the ride, claiming it's a "service animal." While I personally would have cheerfully enclosed them in a small glass-bottomed gondola and let them sit suspended 200' over the water with a frenzied critter, I have to applaud the management for saying "No." (Although they could have said it louder and with more profanity) Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: luckton on August 02, 2012, 06:58:02 AM Regarding the avatar size thing; I found that even when I sized my GIF at 140x140, it wasn't working. Trying sizing it down to 130. Also, what are you using to edit/recompile the GIF?

I'll try 130*130 when I get home Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: MuffinMan on August 02, 2012, 04:51:47 PM I never got that error when uploading an animated avatar but I did have a problem where it wouldn't animate unless it was under a certain size.

Thanks, this helped. I got it to animate by reducing size. Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Sky on August 05, 2012, 08:38:26 AM Too much bullshit PC-politeness behind handing out tags these days. The scooter thing is a LOT worse (and handing out HC tags is pretty bad), because the scooter companies and/or middlemen are scamming the shit out of medicare, which then chew up tax dollars, which raises taxes while taking tax money away from legit entities (like libraries).Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Ironwood on August 05, 2012, 09:14:32 AM For some reason that reminds me of the mid-40s couple behind us in line for the ferris wheel on the Seattle docks (this was about two weeks ago). Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Abagadro on August 05, 2012, 01:40:33 PM Service animal designation has been expanding rapidly here in the U.S. to include animals that "help" people with stuff like stress and anxiety just by being with them. I've run into the issue with respect to the Fair Housing Act which requires allowing service animals.

He would help me with being more awesome. Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Bzalthek on August 05, 2012, 09:22:00 PM Only if I can have a service Rhino. For my self-esteem.
Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: ghost on August 06, 2012, 09:34:33 AM I'm not sure you guys would like an exotic animal as a "service pet" as they'd probably either eat you or trample you.
Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Lantyssa on August 06, 2012, 12:46:40 PM How about a red panda then? It'll just try to impotently headbutt you.
Title: Re: Forum Avatars Post by: Ingmar on August 06, 2012, 12:54:54 PM And poop on your stuff.
As far as cats as service animals, I've heard of them being used for therapy visits in nursing homes, etc., but I'm not sure what driving one around in a stroller is supposed to do for you. As far as cats as service animals, I've heard of them being used for therapy visits in nursing homes, etc., but I'm not sure what driving one around in a stroller is supposed to do for you. My exgf had a Keeshond who went through all that therapy dog classes. She used to go to retirement homes and visit the old timers. The license itself wasn't that cheap, but the renewal process was relatively painless and she was allowed to take her practically everywhere. Felt bizarre taking a dog on a leash into a kids hospital and not getting hassled. And yes they do the same for cats, but I am unfamiliar with what classes they have to do (classes for a cat ... i don't even). |
