*YOU SHOULD ALL APPLY IN GAME NOW*

How to apply for the League in-game:

1) Run the game, go multiplayer. If it's your first time creating an online account, please use the same name you have here on f13.
2) Go to the "Leagues" tab.
3) Click on "League Finder"
4) Search for either "f13 League  *Season5 *" or under manager "Drew Falconeer". Make sure to join Season #5, not the Feeder League or any other League I am managing.
5) Highlight the League you want, and click "view League" (as far as I know, you have to "view the League", applying from the search tool doesn't work).
6) In the League page, choose your elegible Team from the dropdown menu in the lower part of the screen and "apply". If you want to apply with one of your eligible teams from the Feeder League you will have to quit the Feeder League first (duh).
7) The password is: vanguard

You are set.

PLEASE, APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
I think this is all. For the few noobs, don't be shy, ask questions if you are confused or in doubt. As everyone knows, I am surprisingly friendly and pretty much always online on Steam. Name there to add me to your friend list is [f13] Falconeer.

Thanks everyone for making all this possible.

My only lineswomen with wrestle ended the season with -1ST, so I fired her, and got a replacement.

Since we have... five? stunty teams, it may be worth it to figure out if we want to fudge the draw to distribute them evenly. There's also an argument that we have enough that there's no need to fudge it.

I would argue that it shouldn't matter, really.  What if we all chose Norse/Chaos bashy teams instead?  Or Elf Bullshit teams?

I dig. I actually don't have an opinion either way. I just figured it might be worth mentioning. I'm ever so slightly more partial to just treating them like normal teams

I'm ever so slightly more partial to just treating them like normal teams

I know I'm still new to this game, but from what I've learned, if normal was a scale that had Bashy teams on one end and Agile teams on the other, Humans would be the only team in the middle.  From there, every other team takes their fair share of advantages in exchange for disadvantages, but being no more or no less 'complete' as a team.  And that just describes them from a starting point...with training and upgrades, you could sway any time in either direction you'd want.

For example, I've seen many posts about Elfish bullshit, but then I can find just as much hate for bashy team and other BS stuff that teams can do as well.  That's what I'm liking about this game...there's quite literally something out there for everyone.  The key is taking the strengths you get and exploiting them.

tl;dr - My Halflings 'are' normal.  Quit hating, hater.  :why_so_serious:

Cancklebiter has 20000 gold. I can't accept his application until he dumps the money (as per rules posted in the Feeder League thread http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=20399.0 ). Please fix this soon.

Luckily my last game landed me exactly 70k total, so I could by another line elf to fill out the team!

I would argue that it shouldn't matter, really.  What if we all chose Norse/Chaos bashy teams instead?  Or Elf Bullshit teams?

The difference is that those teams are competitive. Goblins and especially Halflings are specifically designed to almost never win games.

Got home and logged in to see the competition...thought there was a rule about capping the TV at 1300?  Or have I once again missed something?

Title: Re: S#5 - Apply in game now!
Post by: Ice Cream Emperor on September 29, 2011, 02:42:58 PM
New teams are capped at 1300. Teams that have developed in the league have no TV restrictions. (Most of them started at 1000 TV back in the day, but some joined at 1250 TV last season.)

If the changes involve spending more money (hiring new players, buying rerolls, etc.,) you should be fine to do that once your team is accepted, prior to your first game. If the changes involve reversing money you already spent... I am guessing it is possible to cancel your current application, then make a brand new replacement team, then apply with that team, and nobody will know any better.

I was able to make changes and get a gold refund.  I guess the game is smart enough to know that the team hasn't actually done anything yet :)

To be honest there is no reason to spend money now, when you could wait until you see who you are actually playing in your next game, and decide then whether or not to improve your team, etc.

Effective Halfling play pretty much relies on managing your TV in order to afford both the star Treeman and a chef every game. If you overspend now and then draw a 1300 team, you may regret doing so.

Then again, in general everything is so cheap and you will have so much money lying around that you can always refire players, etc. as well.

I think we should stick to doing the draw in tiers the same way we did prior seasons. I think forcing an even distribution of stunty teams actually works against the stunty teams, because while sure it would be pretty brutal for say, my team to end up in a division with 5 stunty teams, the stunty teams would also all be playing each other which makes their schedule quite a lot less frightening overall.

Spreading them out just ensures they have less chance of having other stunty teams on their schedule, which is probably bad.

Title: Re: S#5 - Apply in game now!
Post by: AndyDavo on September 29, 2011, 03:08:42 PM
but it does mean that if your lucky enough to play all the stunty teams you would get quite an advantage going into the playoffs. 1 because you WILL get there, 2 because you get to earn a lot of spps. I would vote that i am NOT placed in such a division, because i  would not want to ruin the fun of others.

Well, some of those stunty teams are lizardmen, which are really not in the same category as the others, and the ogres can also do some damage - they almost made the playoffs this last season after all.

Title: Re: S#5 - Apply in game now!
Post by: Ice Cream Emperor on September 29, 2011, 03:47:22 PM

'Stunty teams' doesn't usually refer to lizardmen, so much as the teams which the rules specifically state were designed to be crappy/challenging. So goblins and halflings and ogres.

Quote
Designer's Note: Some teams are more challenging than others to play either because of their skills requiring advanced strategies to be effective or because they have difficulty winning.  These teams have been designed this way on purpose to give challenges to coaches who master the basics of Blood Bowl.  These more challenging teams are: Chaos, Dark Elf, Goblin, Halfling, Khemri, Nurgle, Ogre and Vampire.  Coaches should be aware that these are considered teams for more advanced players and can be confusing or difficult to use in your are new to the game.

IMO, if we're going to treat the 'stunty teams' special, we either treat 'all' of the teams that the designer's specially called out as being intentionally unique, or not at all.

I have never figured out why Dark Elves are on that list. They have a couple odd pieces, sure, but it isn't like you ever have to buy an assassin or even a witch elf to be successful with them.

Title: Re: S#5 - Apply in game now!
Post by: Sir T on September 29, 2011, 04:44:39 PM
Those people who are playing stunty teams know they are and they have their own reasons for doing it. I don't think they need to be catered for in any way. besides, no system is perfect or fair other than let the chips fall where they may. if someone gets a good league because of that, well that mirrors real life.

Title: Re: S#5 - Apply in game now!
Post by: Paelos on September 29, 2011, 04:45:28 PM
Chaos are on that list? They just punch stuff. I mean you get no skills, so I guess that's complicated.

Title: Re: S#5 - Apply in game now!
Post by: Ingmar on September 29, 2011, 04:47:08 PM
They also have way more skills to pick from on level ups, so it is possible to make a really fail team if you choose weird stuff.

Me thinks it's because of those odd pieces that sets them apart from all other Elfs.  The others have pieces that give you a good throwing-game right off the bat.  Dark Elfs have to switch it up by playing a running game, and give you tools from the start to gank your opponent.  They may not be more difficult to play, per say, but some could see the loss of a throwing game + low STR players as a challenge.

Title: Re: S#5 - Apply in game now!

Well you'd need doubles for the dodge. But anyway, there are a some strange mutation skills that can be trickier than the more generic stuff to use properly, and because you start out with no guidance on which pieces should be built in what direction, it can be sort of easy to end up with your team in a development mess if you don't have a plan.

I believe with your particular team, being shittier than the other team by a significant margin actually helps you out, because of all the inducement money you get. Inducements help a lot. Ask IainC about when he had to play me and my ONE MEEEEEELLION in inducements sometime.

Aye, I got it   I'm trying to stay under 1000 as much as I can.  I may drop it below 800 again, but right now I'm comfortable with the setup.  Will probably change some things up again once the schedule's released.

Yeah, inducements are key for halflings and goblins.  It suuuucked playing goblins with no bribes, I tell you what.

If a halfling chef steals all my Khemri rerolls I might just sit down and cry right then and there.  After flipping the table over.

1000tv sounds way too high for halfling. I wouldn't let them get over 800 if I were you.

Inducements are better than anything you can spend money on.

Also be aware any team bar goblins or Ogres who doesn't beat halflings by 3 clear TDs will come away disappointed.

I've been playing a Halfling team a bit and I've kept their TV under 700 as much as possible (fire any Halflings who level except maybe one who gets doubles to be a kicker). I've done pretty well against almost everything bar Elven Bullshit and I've been scoring an average of 5-6 injuries per match.

10 Halflings, 2 Treemen then take the star player Treeman and either Morg if you can afford him or the Amazon star player otherwise. Halfling Masterchef is a must and you'll likely have enough for a wizard, two babes and a team reroll or some bribes as well. Castle up behind the Treemen and let them pound the shit out of anything that gets close. My team has a Treeman with +1 str, +1 move, Block and Multiple Block. He's pretty awesome. Score by throwing Halflings.

Extra tv is actually reducing your flexibility since it reduces inducements.

Only possible argument I can see with the 600tv roster is maybe you can use another reroll. Maybe. But as your stars have loner anyway, maybe not.

If my first match is against a brand new 1000 TV, I'll drop to 600.  That at least gives me the MasterChef and Deeproot for free.  Anyone else, and the advantages grow from there

The sortings will be made with 4 pools of team to draw from, to divide 32 teams in 4 divisions:

4 Serious Stuffers (the 4 best ranked according to our f13 Ranking) - 1 for each division.
8 Top Chokers (ranked from 5th to 12th) - 2 for each division.
12 Usual Losers (ranked from 13th to 24th)  - 3 for each division.
8 Utterly noobs (ranked from 25th to 32nd) - 2 for each division.

No special treatment for anybody. You picked your teams, you placed yourself somewhere int the rankings, Nuffle and my cats will do the rest.

So proud that I made utter noob even after 2 full seasons  :awesome_for_real:

Well, some of those stunty teams are lizardmen, which are really not in the same category as the others, and the ogres can also do some damage - they almost made the playoffs this last season after all.
My division has caused nail biting both seasons I've been a part of.
Last season I was actually part of the cause!

Tonight is not an accident. There are no accidents. We have not come here by chance. I do not believe in chance. When I see the noobiest noobs playing the poorest and difficult teams...I do not see coincidence, I see providence. I see purpose. I believe it our fate to be here. It is our destiny. I believe this season holds for each and every one of us, the very meaning of our lives.

Looks like Falc accidentally copied Gruntle's name (who didn't appear to sign up this season) instead of yours. You should be fine.

I presume Kailas is Kail.

My place in the top tier, as a team who has never seen the finals...is suspect.

Oh well, I'll continue to try to pound people into the pitch.

Llyse is actually out of town.  Or that's what he wrote in the Horns & Hooves league thread.

I applied. I had no excuse beyond "I hate the UI and didn't feel like figuring it out."

I think you're benefiting from an extra season's worth of points, Strazos -- it should even out next season, assuming you fail again.

The system is built to acknowledge consistency. Of course, having played one additional (good) season helps , but eventually having scored a first place in a very old season isn't worth as much as placing third in the most recent one (Aez's situation).

Without a doubt, probably.   :awesome_for_real:

It'll be a guaranteed win for you, unless I get so many inducements it becomes ludicrous.

The inducements would certainly be ludicrous, I'm over 1800 tv.

It will be my luck he gets matched against me.  I'm going to have 4 fucking players out injured for my first game, but I'm still going to have a really hi TV because most of my really leveled up characters are still in.  So I would be weak'end and have to deal with a fuckton of inducements.

I'll still probably beat his haflings though.   :awesome_for_real:

The wonderful draw video is gonna be super lame this time around, as I have zero time to do any kind of editing. So, unedited 45 minutes of bloated nerdy boredom. With an accent.

Heading to bed, but taking a quick glance at the league it's not too bad with luckton's halflings sitting on 730 TV to my All stars at 1910.

What's interesting is Reborne's Wrestling Ogres noob division is on 1720 TV..  :ye_gods:

When I'm not Jetlagged I'll post some random thoughts on other teams and coaches for luckton to watch out for and to trash talk (lamaros) :awesome_for_real:
