To be honest, the entire idea of trying to approach and pay someone for sex is beyond me. It's too intimidating. I don't even know how you would find one, and the thought of approaching someone and being wrong... is not appealing. I'll stay with my normal life instead. Also, disease.

Actually, many of them are up front with prices for services. I did statistics work for the CDAS (http://www.udel.edu/cdas/) in grad school and had a delightful opportunity to tour the needle exchange facility and clinic in Miami. Met quite a few prostitutes who were the main focus of the program. Oh yeah, the things I heard directly from these women & men were  :uhrr:

In my mid-twenties, a (former) friend of mine found out that I had never been to a brothel. (Brothels are legal and regulated here, streetwalking is not). He took it upon himself to show some of these places to me, and so on random weekends and weeknights across a couple of months, we would go into these places. Larger ones, smaller ones, mid-sized ones. Both cheap and small. Nicely decorated places in South Melbourne, a place built inside a giant pre-fab shed in Altona. Some place that truckers frequented on Dynon road (and apparently they get different rates). The only kind of place we didn't visit was the top-tier that required you to pay a fee to enter (to keep out timewasters like us). It was basically the same each time. You'd go in. The girls who were available would come out and either shake your hand, or in one place would sit down on couches with you. Maybe they'd shake your hand. The girls ranged from eloquent, gorgeous, to normal, attractive, above and below average in looks, to not very attractive at all. Some were clearly on some kind of chemical supplement, while a few clearly were craving same. It was certainly eye opening, and this was without ever actually being a client or anything more than a time-wasting tourist. In short, it was a mix of interesting and absolutely terrifying.

In the end though, I guess they're just people. Many of them probably pretty normal, aside from their jobs, and I'd guess it's a pretty transient job for many of them. I'd think that the ones you meet down at the needle exchange place in an area where the whole trade is illegal would definately be a lot more hardcore. Still, I washed my hands very thoroughly after each one of these outings.
