Title: Translation Party
Post by: K9 on August 07, 2009, 01:53:43 PM
Translation Party (http://translationparty.com/tp/), just enter a phrase and hit the find equilibrium button, amusing little tool.

This is what makes it  :awesome_for_real: (http://translationparty.com/tp/#421405)

Appropriately, it cannot find an equilibrium point for quantum mechanical properties.

"no two electrons in the same atom can be in the same quantum state" (http://translationparty.com/tp/#426669)

Ah. Your result was better due to the way you phrased it. I put it as "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." and the results were fairly boring.

I kinda get what Equilibrium is at least... though sometimes it's funny just to see a phrase translate exactly from English to Japanese and back.

Oh man, they must have changed it.  I just clicked on this link again to record some of the funny sentences it generated about president Bush, but its generating a whole string of different results now!  It actually found equilibrium, which it didn't do before.  Now I'll never remember the exact quotes about "Birds are good in the hand of President Bush" or some such.  :?

It took Falcon Punch as a name and made it hiragana that's why the translation was what it was.

I actually put in text in the one I posted and I have NO CLUE what happened.

I didn't know you knew Japanese.

Interesting aside: I showed this to our Japanese community manager and she actually asked for the link so she could use it to assist in translations. She's a native to Japan and she found the differences this exposed in translations useful. Guess it's not all fun... though Falcon Punch becoming a name is the shiznat.

"Whats your name?"
"FALCON PUNCH!!!!!"   /PUNCH

You don't need to know japanese to see what it did. Put Falcon and Punch into two separate translation party screens to see what happens. And then put "hawk punch" in and watch. Something funky is going on at translation party. Me thinks it's an easter egg.

Or it could just be fucked up. I don't know Japanese but I don't understand this one posted above:

http://translationparty.com/tp/#512624

How could going from plural "eels" to singular "eel" change things that much?
