Title: Recording VHS onto DVDs Post by: KallDrexx on July 24, 2008, 06:50:24 AM So I'm looking to get something to record all of my mom's VHS tapes onto dvds. I remember this being advertised way back in the day but now-a-days I've been looking at all sorts of VHS/recordable DVD players and none of them mention the abillity to record a dvd using the VHS as a source (instead of the tv as a source).
is this pretty standard for all VHS/Rec DVD combos? I'm sure they can I'm just too lazy to verify. Also if this is a one time thing can't you just take it to one of those guys who'll do it for you? Since I have about 10+ VHS tapes it's cheaper to buy a recorder and give it to my mom afterwards as a dvd player.

This gets the hard part of moving video data from the VHS player to the computer out of the way for, uh, practically free. I hooked the VCR up, played the tape and recorded it on the system's DVR, then burned it to disc. Bonus is, you still have the DVR and TV card after the fact.
