Why is there a net in the end zone?

The score is tied at zero-zero.  It's definitely soccer.  I'm guessing the clock near the score means it's four hours and thirty minutes into the game.

I hope it has an endgame where your character comes to the US because some kook thinks he can popularize the sport here.  Success can be measured by how large a paycheck you can score despite the total indifference of the public.

As far as I am aware it's not impossible for two different things to have the same name.

So they can both be football. As can Australian Rules Football. Which is also older than NFL. I can make up a game right now and call it 'football' and be right. Australia officially uses the word Football. It's the FFA, Football federation of Australia. Most people call it soccer here too, the team is the Australian "soccaroos", but the sport is still officially Football.

Guys, I played Soccer for, oh, I don't know, 12 years, hardcore for about 7 of them.

It's called football.

I've shattered knees, trashed backs (including my own), thrown out shoulders, broken bones. All without pads.

Yeah, sorry schild.  Pro football players would destroy pro rugby players.  The impact levels between the two sports just isn't comparable.  That's not to knock rugby, which is good fun violence as well, but its just different, both in terms of player type and hitting types.  Hell, Teddy Roosevelt fucking threatened to ban the sport in 1905 if things didn't change because there were 19 deaths alone that year.

Pads in football serve the same purpose as boxing gloves in boxing. Sure they offer protection but what they really do is let them hit each other a lot, and I mean A LOT, harder than without them.

This is like that one time I talked with a bunch of people about Mike Tyson in his prime being in the UFC (GREAT CONVERSATION TOPIC, K). There were, of course, stipulations.

And there would be here. Would the football players be in pads? If not, I'm pretty sure Rugby players would thrash the shit out of them.

You can't compare because obviously either side is going to get worked playing the each others different sports, since neither of them actually play it.  I'm just talking about pure contact/impact violence (pads or no pads).  Football players overall just tend to be way bigger, while also being able to propel themselves really god damn fast.  Rugby is alot more about long term endurance instead of short bursts of extreme athleticism/violence, which leads to a different build type.  Also, rugby players usually just drag each other to the ground instead of splattering their opponents with as much force as possible (exceptions do happen obviously).  It has actually only gotten worst in that regard in modern times, because of exactly what Trippy said.  They are both a protection and an enabler.  They make great weapons actually.

Kicking a ball into a net actually happens more often in football than in soccer.

A number of washed up AFL (Australian Football League) players end up kicking for NFL teams because.. well.. it seem you guys aren't so hot at the whole, kicking things with the foot business.

But that's makes sense, because your sport is Football (Yeah! Hardcore!) not umm.. throwingandcatchingandrunningintoeachother-ball.

I thought those kids were dying because they had some strategy where they ran at each other in 'v' formations, thus ruining the guy at the apex. Now that's a game I want my kids playing! I hear Russian roulette is in the next olympics too.
