Title: Fury Pre-Beta Signups on IGN/Fileplanet
Post by: Adam_Carpenter on May 30, 2007, 08:06:57 PM
To quote Schild: 'Make a thread, and expressly say that "Schild is doing an interview, he asked me to post this in his absence"'

With that out of the way, anyone interested in getting into Fury before the formal beta starts can check out this link on Fileplanet: http://www.fileplanet.com/promotions/fury/

If you know nothing about Fury, check out Yoru’s GDC writeup (http://www.f13.net/index.php?itemid=549) or a massive compilation of articles/Q&As/previews here that one of the LotD guys put together (http://www.warcry.com/forums/read/248.42343).

EDIT BY SCHILD: FORWARD THE FOLLOWING PORTS IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES PLAYING: TCP: 24000, 21002

Fucking POS Fileplanet won't give me an fucking access key. God I hate that fucking site.

Edit: This thing is fucking broken. The key access verification page just sends me back to fileplanet.com. Has anybody managed to get this to work?

Holy cow...

I tried to sign up but got 'system requirements too low'

My specs:
AMD +5600 dual core
EVGA 7950 GT KO
2 GB DDRAM
Cable modem

YIKES

Sounds like a bug. My system is lower-spec than yours and after 45 minutes I finally managed to get past the fucking verification setup.

You can try entering in something different. Mine is:

A64 > 2.0 GHz
7800 GT 256 MB
1.6 - 2 GB RAM
DSL

After I read your post, Trippy, I went and checked and it worked and now I feel guilty.

Yes that was one of my problems. I couldn't get past that until I allowed cookes from revsci.net even though they are an adware company. You may need to clear out your cache and your cookies as well.

Gah! This fucking download manager keeps fucking stoping and not restarting automatically. And then everytime I have to start it back up through no fault of my own I have fucking wait in line again. Isn't the point of making somebody install an ActiveX plug-in *and* a separate download manager is so they don't have to babysit these long downloads?

My friend had very similar specs and was also turned down for not having adequate PC specifications. He logged out of FP, cleared his cache, cleared his cookies, closed his browser, opening it back up and still was unable to get a key due to "Step 1 Failed" when clicking on the link. So it seems to me that the spec fail is bound to your FP account, which is pretty fucked up, hope they fix it without having to go through customer service channels just to get a beta.

2gb dl, guess I'll leave it on overnight, record high temperatures and my portable space heater of a computer will make tonight interesting. I hope it's interesting.

Edit: Hmmm dl appears to not work.

Don't use Fileplanet's download manager.  It comes from Troy.

Perhaps, but my connection is so slow and fucking FilePlanet doesn't work with a text browser so it's going to literally take days for me to download and then upload the file.

Yeah, I got the system requirements too low also.

But I meet them all.  Except I have Vista instead of XP.  Surely they wouldn't?

Has anybody figured out how to get a beta forum account? The link on the FilePlanet post-signup page and in the email get redirected to the general Beta signup page. I filled it out just for heck of it but of course never got a Beta forum account emailed to me.

Same here with the forum login.

I managed to get a pretty fast dl but my cpu is 2.0g.  They're literally blocking me from attempting to enter the game, shutting the program down because their minimum is 2.2g.  Argh!

Trippy, you should get an e-mail about the forum from an Auran account within the next day or so.

Basically, IGN/Fileplanet need to pass all the registered e-mail addys over so we can add you to the forum’s authorized list.

Is anyone else having trouble patching? It keeps trying to connect to an FTP server and failing then it trys to connect to ftp://localhost and we all know thats not gonna work. I'm trying to reinstall now, some of my buddies are on already, they say they're playing the "green" server.

Oh god, fileplanet download service is just awful. I would rather dl it from some shady chinese host going 0.2 kb/s than this shit.
First one to mirror the file will become god among men, even if going to be rapidshare.

Title: Re: Fury Pre-Beta Signups on IGN/Fileplanet
Post by: Trippy on June 01, 2007, 05:43:34 PM
Nope it's not just you -- I can't patch either.

Title: Re: Fury Pre-Beta Signups on IGN/Fileplanet
Post by: Agnarth on June 01, 2007, 05:55:02 PM
I was able to patch it manually I grabbed the patch from the FTP server you can grab from the connection console. Look for the one with your version number to 13338, your version number will be on the zip file that was downloaded. You're going to have to command line the exe file with a whole bunch of bullshit arguments, something like:

"patch.exe /l patches.txt /s ftp.server /f 13338 (final version number) /p <directory patch.zip was extracted to> 12939 (current version number of your install) <directory fury is installed to>

Have fun...

Edit: I also had some troubles with the original install directory and the command line arguments, I had to reinstall to C:\Fury to make it simple.

Edit again: I installed everything to C:\Fury extracted the patch zip file to the same directory, and the exact command I ran was:

"FuryPatchGUI13338.exe /l ftp://69.80.215.162/patches.txt /s ftp://69.80.215.162/ /f 13338 /p C:\Fury 12939 C:\Fury"

This was able to patch the game after a few minutes.

Post by: Trippy on June 01, 2007, 06:07:13 PM
Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Edit: FTP patch server has changed to 69.80.215.250, at least for the moment, but otherwise your instructions worked great. Thanks for figuring that out.

Now if I could only figure what the point of this game is...

The biggest problems (performance wise) seem to be the long-ass loading times after and before matches begin, and the huge amount of time the queues seem to take.

Of course this is beta, so neither really supprised me.

Fake Edit: Can we please get some damn yes or no dialog boxes? I was half way through the tutorial when I lagged into the exit tutorial portal and had to spend 20 minutes figuring out where everything was.

Other than the initial registration over at Fileplanet, I haven't had any problems (once I got winrar, that is - thanks, Trippy).

Installed fine, updated fine, loaded in fine.

We had this same problem in Vanguard Beta. Brad was trying to save money and switched to fileplanet. We all bitched and he said "Give it a chance"

I think that arround half the testers couldn't download it... after about a month they got rid of file plannet.

I can at least give you tips that I learned in that nightmare. File plannet SUX ASS

#1. Use internet explorer. Their manager doesnt like anything else.
#2. Make sure the drive you are downloading it to is NTFS. It may sound silly... but a lot of people were trying to download Vanguards client to External USB drives that just happen to come pre-formatted when they bought them as Fat32. Fat32 has a 4Gig(?) file limit size and Vangaurds client was 20Gig. Fileplanets download manager would just crash.
#3. If i remember correctly, if the download failed for any reason, the download manager would think you had already downloaded the file and would not let you download it again. As a result you would have to uninstall it, clear your cache and temp files, empty your recycle bin, reboot and totally reinstall.

Why the hell these development companys haven't discovered Bittorrent yet baffles me.

bt doesn't show ads and you can use unauthorized clients.

I've had no problem with Fileplanet. I bit the bullet two years ago and have been paying the annual fee since. I probably could use it more, but there's not much I've found to be interesting.

I'd host the file but I'd blow through my free monthly alottment halfway through the third download :)

Same as SnakeCharmer: D/L fine, patch fine (once the server came back up today), launched fine. Got as far as character creation before my daughter woke up from her nap :)

Your alpha system requirements are too high for me. This is bad. Learn one of the lessons of Vanguard and WoW. If your system requirements are too high, you will exclude potential customers.

Retail specs are supposed to be as low as a 2.0 ghz single core cpu and a GF4 card.

It's in pre-Beta. I don't know why their so high. Maybe they're working backwards or whatever.

Otherwise, interesting experience.

Alphas are often like this. They typically don't bother optimizing performance yet.

That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Optimization is one thing, but I'm more than skeptical that even after optimization, it'll run like dog shit on my computer because it hasn't been tested on that configuration since alpha.

One major change that new players will notice in the update is that the hardware checker has been removed. This means people who previously didn’t quite meet the minimum specifications will be able to play. Please keep in mind, however, that you may experience bad frame rates and visuals in game if your specifications are beneath the minimums previously enforced.

Lastly, because you are under “Non-Disclosure”, you must refrain from discussing anything at all about the game with anyone outside of the testing program.
