I was taking my alt around Tanaris to finish out the map last night. I ran past Caverns of Time and noticed the dragons weren't hanging out on the path inside. So, I took a stroll in cautiously. The dragons are still there, but off to the side far enough for you to get into the caverns. Lo and behold, they are open. I start walking through thinking I'll just hit an instance gate and it will tell me to go buy BC and level. However, it is truly open and HUGE! There are some really cool things in there. Yes, I know people were using a bug to get in there, but I think they've added a lot of things. For one thing, the NPCs are all in there. You can repair your armor, buy provisions (reagents, poisons, water, etc.) The really cool thing was looking at the faction items on the quartermaster. Holy crap those are some damn fine epic level items! Seriously, if you are in that area at all, go check it out. Very impressive. Oh, each instance gate in there (4 I think) tells you what is required for each. The first one (they run in succession) requires level 65, a raid group, and friendly status with their faction. Just try to walk into them and it tells you. Yes Beta people, I know you've probably seen it all already.

Yeah, they opened them up with 2.0.1. I agree, very cool inside, can't wait to actually get to do stuff in there (although from the last flow-chart I saw, it'll be a bit). Also, Filtered Draenic Water = .

I think it's neat, but I do find it annoying that it takes so long to get down there. I hope there's a flight path down entually. Going from IF->wetlands->boat->tanaris->walkwalkwalkwalk->caverns->zonein is a looooong trek. Then again, they do have meeting stones, so it'll be less of a deal. Only two people have to spend 20m getting there.

There's a Tavern. So probably a hearthstone at some point.

Yeah, the meeting stone is at the entrance of the cavern so that helps. Plus, you can ride your mount right up to most of the zone-in's. One of them had a long run up to it that took you from your mount for some reason. I wonder if they will fix that later though.

Which is Ironically how my Rogue got there today. And why I was thinking of the topic in terms of 'How the fuck is my warrior meant to get here quick ?'

My hunter's an engineer. That's about the only reason why -- and being a repair bot bitch for the raid. Still, I do equip my parachute cloak before using.

When you get high enough level, there's a quest from the dragon at the entrance that will fly you down for free.

Only reason for keeping engineering is being bound in Kargath, I can quickly get to all raid zones except for Naxx. Dunno if I'll keep it come TBC - I hope to never go near Blackrock mountain again...

There's another transporter for each type of engineering in BC that takes you to 'engineering areas' (Toshly's Station & Area 52). So if, like me, you want to keep a hearth on the Eastern Continent you can get around pretty damn easily.

You can buy the best water in the game right now from the provisions person in the Caverns of Time. Neat place to check out now. Cool music. Images I took:

Those are sold by more than a few vendors now, I think most of the vendors in major cities sell them now too. I know the Thorium Brotherhood does...

Is that the same as impact shot? Guy in IF sells it. Not the gun/bow store, but the one right off the bank that has the bag vendor downstairs. Have no idea why he sells better shot than the guy in the Military Wing.

You can buy wicked arrows at the gun/bow vendor (upstairs) in the Military Ward in IF, also at the gun/bow vendor in SW city behind the AH. I think most ammo if not all ammo vendors have them, in fact.
Screwed my 60s/stack arrow business but frankly, I'd rather have cheap arrows to use than have to make them myself.

There's a new bullet recipie at around 305/310 engineering that does 26dps. No place to turn them into arrows that I know of, though.

That's what gets me. They don't have decent guns in the freakin' game. Crossbows and bows are a dime a dozen. But good guns? They're virtually impossible to find. You gimp yourself trying to use them. They're starting to correct it (the PvP rewards added in good guns, and the later raid instances had them) -- but for the longest time, it was like Blizzard had guns as an afterthought. Yet engineers can only make bullets. Was that supposed to be the "balance" to bows? Use a shittier weapon, but better ammo?

I know they've changed it now. Even molten core drops a semi-decent gun (Blastershot Launcher), and there's a good one in BWL -- don't know about Naxx or AQ. I was just wondering it their initial design was "Crappier guns/better ammo" versus "Better bows/crappier arrows". Because if I'd been raiding MC when it opened, I'd be sitting there looking at my Dwarf Hunter, looking at the Hunter Epic, and saying "Fuck".

It'd be a lot easier if they'd just let engineers make either. It's as though they want to put in a new profession: bowyer or something. Which would be cool, but it's been 2 years now.

There's always that guy in IF who'll turn Thorium Bullets into Thorium arrows.

I suspect Blizzard will patch someone in, if they didn't add arrow schematics. I'm using the Impact Shot myself (I never even bothered with Thorium bullets, using the top store stuff for PvE and PvP, and the Ice-threaded stuff for high-end raids) now, and it's made a significant difference. Hell of a lot cheaper too.

There's 50 DPS epic bullets and arrows being sold in the caverns of time assuming you have the correct faction.
