I must be extra sensitive, because Coke Zero still tastes like ass to me. It takes half a second, but it's definitely there.

I actually went out and bought a 12 pack last night after all the praise it gets here every few months. It's drinkable for a diet soda but just barely. Don't think I'll buy it again, the aftertaste is still just too much.

I find its easier to drink than "Diet" drinks.

I find its easier to drink than "Diet" drinks. This. It still tastes like a sugar free beverage, and there is some aftertaste...but it beats the ever-loving shit out of ordinary Diet Coke. Still, the best diet soda, IMO, is Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper (also the vanilla cherry version). Holy shit, did they hit on the right formula. I would rather drink that than most regular sodas. Never seen Cherry Coke Zero in the UK, which is a shame because I would probably actually buy and drink that from time to time since I think Diet Cherry Coke tastes wrong.
Now that you mention it, I think it was Diet Cherry Coke, and not Cherry Coke Zero, that tasted so awful. But it wasn't the "diet" part of the equation that was off...it was the "cherry" part. Fucking rancid.

We don't even have Diet Cherry Coke here, it must be some European thing specially designed for your palates.

Um, happy Jewish holiday, whatever it might be!
That type of thing doesn't happen in my office (nor would I want it to, I'd have to do all the work). Plus considering the ethnic diversity of my department, we'd never be at full staff.
On an unrelated note, I just grabbed six packs of Mirrodin block cards to hold off my urges until the new set comes out tomorrow. Pulled a Blightsteel Collossus, Spellskite (like, my favorite card ever), and a Venser, Sojourner.

This will be a weird post right after the Jewish holiday post, but I just tried the most AMAZING salami I have ever had. It is an artisan salami produced locally by a guy whose family has made it in Italy for a few hundred years. This stuff is unbelievable. Expensive as hell but worth it if you are into this sort of thing. Haven't tried them all but the Barolo and Wild Boar are absolutely delicious. http://www.creminelli.com/

About a week ago the girl and I got some Creminelli Sopressata and Tartufo and they were absolutely fantastic.

Yep, that brand is pretty good. Up there with Spanish salchichon, which is hard to get in the US too.

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

It has a lot of people talking in British accents. Which would put it in the Foreign Language section of most Video stores in the South :p

How can you not have seen any Black Adder? Isn't it a staple of PBS pledge week down there?

People watch that? I think I've seen part of 1 total Black Adder episode. I think my wife turned it on once because Hugh Laurie's in it.

I've never seen it, but it's been recommended to me many times, and at that price I think it's worth the gamble. Thanks for the heads-up.

Black Adder is pretty great. It's also one of the few shows that got better and better each season. For that reason they should be watched in order though...
I would love another series done in a later setting, like a 1980's corporation or something but I know it will never happen.

So is it genuinely funny, or is it funny in the way that would only be funny if you knew a lot about British culture/history?

It's funny in the traditional funny sense. IF you enjoy the dry British way of delivery. The political jokes are timeless and the history ones you should get if you paid attention in High School.
While I'm sure there's a level I'm missing on the History stuff there's enough there for even an American to "get." i.e. Queen Elizabeth being a whiny self-interested child who only cares about how popular she is and that people bring her 'prezzies.' Or Hugh Laurie as the Prince Regent being an oafish moron who only cares about booze, women and not getting hurt.

Be aware that the first Blackadder series is a bit harder to approach than the later ones, so if you watch the first series and end up thinking "what the hell did I just watch" don't give up on it. I like the first series, but I've known a few people who definitely didn't "get" it where that was not a problem with later seasons.
