Listening to an NPR story on Jewish delis, and they mentioned Schwartz's in Montreal.  Now I'm craving some nice Montreal smoked meat.

Ah, but you put on the helmet. Ohhhhh, I see.  I did not, and when I had problems writing to a virtual disk which was virtually mapped from two servers but really was the same device on the storage frame, it hurt my head a lot.  Today I noticed that I had skipped too much and did not set reserve_lock=no on the devices and I'm strongly suspecting that the virtual servers are fighting over the disk when the client wants to write to it.

If you don't care about carbon footprints then you can eat Honeycrisps from New Zealand during the spring and summer and ones from the Pacific Northwest during the fall and winter. It's how I get my fix (I try to give in to non-locally seasonal fruit only once in awhile).
My fiancee wanted to stop by the local orchard yesterday, so I thought I'd peruse the wares. They had a bin of honey crisp, and I figured after hearing you guys rave, I'd at least have to give them a try. Only had utility grade, but the place was decimated as it's that time of year. ZOMG, so flavorful and juicy. Great call. Can't wait to try the fancy grade, this 5 pounder of utility grade won't last too long...

And it's nice being able to buy something where you can see the tree it grew on and support local businesses. Local produce is  Heart

Also scored a brick of local cheese, a mild cheddar with horseradish and bacon. So fresh and pungent with the horseradish kick and mmmmbacon...

I'm up to page 53 reading this thread.

On different note, I think we've had maybe 5 days without rain in the last 2 months.  I fear for my lawn due to fungi and being oversaturated.

I just found out about the Sweet Orin apple (great name, too). They are my new fave-y fave, they might even pwn a Honeycrisp. Look for them - we grow them in the NW (I think ours came from Washington). They are fucking amazing and SO hard and crunchy that I hafta use my chef's knife to slice them in half.

Finally had a honeycrisp (purchased from a farm in OR, but not sure where it was grown). Very tasty. I can see why everyone is raving. I would like to go take a drive around E. Washington one weekend and collect some more varieties from the roadside stands.

I just hate HATE mushy apples. Bought a nice-looking Pippin (an heirloom variety) last week that looked and smelled promising but was a mouthful of fail. A good crispy, juicy apple is a thing of beauty.

You briefly mentioned it before but this is why I love the Jazz apples.  The few honeycrisps I have had seem to bruise easily and seemed a bit too sticky/sweet.  Jazz seem a little more dense, harder and a more mellow flavor w/o tasting watered down.

Those don't sound like any honeycrisps I've ever seen.  I've never had one that wasn't both bruise-free and ridiculously crunchy.

Crunchy red apples and sharp cheddar cheese is empirically the finest sandwich you will ever eat. Doesn't need anything else except butter and wholemeal bread.

Me too.  I don't like mushy or mealy apples.  I like them crisp and sweet.  I made a jar of applesauce using the giant Honeycrisps the other day.  I didn't need to add anything.  Just peeled and chopped cooked on low for six hours or so and threw in a bit of cinnamon for the last hour.  It was lovely and very sweet.  Sugar would have ruined it.  I'll look for those Orin apples although I don't remember seeing that name anywhere.  I have had the Jazz apples and I still prefer the Honeycrisp.  I find them crispier, too.  Since I usually peel and slice my apples, it's easy to cut around a few bruises now and then.

I like the bite of apple to pop off when I dig my teeth in a bit, a nice hunk of apple should pop off. Main problem with these honeycrisps is the juice that pours out of them. Pop....sluuurp....pop...sluuurp. So good though. Even better with that bacon horseradish cheddar!

I want to make applesauce, but I made like 30 jars of it a couple of years ago, and I'm still working through it. I need to eat more applesauce.

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Peanut butter and apples are also an exceptional combination.

Getting only web pages in chinese when searching for the more infrequent AIX errors is becoming an irritant.

EDIT!  Finding that translate.google.com is blocked by our SmartFilter implementation is definitely an irritant.

That's why you should toss aside all that IT tomfoolery and become a fisherman.  It would suit you.  Fish are honest and they don't try and trick you like computers do.  They either bite your worm or not.  That's fish for you!

I used to be a fisherman and now am a computer nerd.  Trust me, this direction is much better, for one thing the hazards are much more existential.

Going fishing is fun, being a fisherman is work.

Agreed. I'm a UNIX Systems Administrator now, but I used to be out on the telephone poles splicing cables and wiring new service. It sucked when it was freezing cold out and windy but I always had a good physical sense of accomplishment after a long day of work.

Also, beyond the physical feeling of accomplishment was the visual feeling of accomplishment. Working with computers, it's sometimes hard to "see" your work. You know things are running better and more efficient, but there isn't always visual proof of it. Not like seeing your splice done and cased up. Or running new lines to a house and seeing your work with your eyes. Or even auditory queues like the static that was there being completely gone and hearing a nice clear dial tone.

Anyways...

There's no way I could go back now, but I do have some nostalgia for it, certainly.

My theory is that it can be used to anonymize a URI so as to defeat the SmartFilter, to which I might comment that the application isn't very Smart if this is the fix.

Had Samwise and the newly minted Mrs. Wise over for supper last night. Nice folks! I made meatloaf (with chopped chanterelles and minced bacon in it), roasted tomato mac and chee, wild mushroom-cheese tarts and a nice salad with Amish blue cheese, Orin apples and pumpkin seeds. It was worth the spike in my blood sugar to share such a carbtastic dinner with them.  awesome, for real

Until you get older and the pain doesn't go away at the end of the day, or ever.  All the guys I talked to about careers (mostly automotive) all said the same thing: "don't do physical labor if you can avoid it" as it wears out the body early and you hit 50 with bad knees and a sore back that doesn't go away all the time.

That's exactly why I used the word "sometimes".  The beauty of physical jobs (for me) was that I was never as exhausted as I can get after a long day using my brain.  I could also leave my job behind and enjoy life rather than dwell on the problems left unsolved until the morning.  It's very much a "Grass is Greener... " kind of thing.

I'd be physically exhausted, but not drained.  My sleep that night would be peaceful.  It's why I like going out to dad's acreage and pulling cacti for a few days.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!
