How about this, I propose - in the modern world - that if you have money and can't find some measure of happiness, you're fucked and should just hand over all of your wordly wealth to a charity or the first homeless person you see.

Being relatively poor all of my life, I'd argue the point. Those times when I had a little more money? Always happier than when I was struggling. Having it takes the pressure off wondering what will happen if you get sick or the car breaks down or the hot water heater dies. Having no money, those worries are infinitely greater. We live in a materialistic society... right or wrong. Shit costs money and if you don't have any, you aren't going to be comfortable.

I completely agree, but that's what I mean about making life easier.  You can still be a miserable bastard with money.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

She finally starts a new job next week, at 2/3rd of her previous salary. The plus side is that it sounds like it might be a job that she actually enjoys, rather than the one she got let go from, which she hated. For 20 years.

Money ain't everything.  Because apparently I have to actually provide the fucking context and quote what was directly above my reply.

Money does buy happiness but only up to a certain point:

Is it beyond the base one?  I mean I'm sure it's not the $85K one.  What colour?  Get black.  Make them throw in one of those leather jackets.  You'll need that to drive it.  Do you have an ETA?

I so badly wanted one. Had to settle on a new Camry Hybrid because I needed a new car now not in a year or two. I'm jealous.

I'm waiting on hearing all of the details including the pricing for options. I'm not really in the market for a car as I believe mine has a few good years in it, but if the rumors of potential delays are true, the dates could line up quite well.

Long and short of it is, it's a $35-$50k vehicle and the $1,000 is fully refundable. As such, it's a no loss situation. They can earn the interest off my $1,000. Whatever.

Yeah, the Model 3 is aimed right at the mainstream market, lots of new full size cars are in the same price range. If they don't explode as they leave the parking lot, Elon Musk is going to get a lot richer, really fast.

Yeah it looks like a clay modeler accidentally dropped the model nose first into the ground and then decided to just leave the nose smooshed in instead of fixing it.

I don't think I could ever go the electric route until gas engines are completely replaced production-wise. I grew up in my buddy's garage with his dad's 67 fastback. There is just something about the vibration and the frequency when accelerating. No doubt the torque is there with electrics and it does pull with force.... but it just lacks that soul.

That said, I really really want GM to reconsider the GNX. I'm fine with the Regal, but man the concept GNX was just love.  DRILLING AND WOMANLINESS

If someone wants to pre-order a Tesla 3 for me, I promise to give it a good loving home. It would get me great parking right in front of the poker room at the local casino!

Snagged a super cheap fare to Sydney for mid-October and have 24 hours to decide whether I actually want to go.  Anyone want to give me some pros or cons?

Are you taking the family?

I felt my decision to go to Sydney on a short notice was one of the best decisions I ever made. Granted, this was over a decade ago but I really liked everything I saw and everyone I met. There was so much to see/do even just around Sydney. You should have decent weather too as October is mid spring down there.

I say it is definitely worth it. If you don't mind my asking, what was the fare?

Also, I never saw a single deadly animal outside of a zoo.

Ya, I booked the whole fam. $531 per person from Utah.  Delta attacked United's hubs yesterday, so United countered. Rather unusual as SLC doesn't often get included in fare wars.

Holy fuck that is cheap. At that price there are pretty much no cons.

I might need to see what prices are from O'Hare.

Definitely check it out. There are fare wars going on all over the place right now. Even if you have to do a quick hop to a hub for a couple hundred, it is worth it.
