I am also curious as to what constitutes a "heavy hitter" in the mini-painting industry.

So we got about four months' worth of rain in 24 hours yesterday and this is what it looked like on the drive to work:

Pensacola, FL.  It was pretty surreal driving past and around abandoned cars this morning.  Apparently a woman in a neighboring town drowned in her car last night after it washed into a drainage ditch - I can't think of a worse way to go.

So I just won two painting awards, a gold and a silver. That's pretty cool.

CONGRATS!  You artist, you!  Those guys are gorgeous.  And, yes, I stalk your website sometimes.  My nephew used to do those when he was younger, I know because I bought nearly all his miniatures, and I thought he was really good.  Well, he was...  but nothing like what you do.  I keep meaing to ask you... did they recently invent fire paint?  Because I want some!

PS  I didn't realise that Azazel and Iain did this, too.  I shall stalk them.  With gusto!

Congrats on the awards, Sky!  I shall have to stalk out your blog to view images, or drag myself down to the appropriate thread.

MisterNoisy - was there a creek where that road washed out or was it caused by something else?  That's crazy.

It was a tiny bridge over a drainage ditch.  Freshly paved, too.

Gratz on the awards, Sky!

My mom had to spend the night in the Atlanta airport last night due to that storm. When they tried to fly into Pensacola they got turned back twice. She is not a happy camper today to say the least.

So all those crazy tornados and thunderstorms that ripped through Mississippi and Alabama Monday? One tornado passed about 15 miles north of my house, the other about 5 miles south.

Aye, that's fairly bad.  That bridge looks like it was made of Lego tho.  One good thing about being in a country that's always PISSING DOWN is that this shit is far less common.  Florida tho.

I guess the airports are flooded now and the highway heading west to Mobile washed out some. Going to be a mess for awhile down there.

*snipped pics*

Looks like your commute was only slightly worse than mine. The culprit here? Sun. Or that is all I can guess. Took me 36 fucking minutes to even get to the freeway (which is maybe 5 miles). Thank FSM for carpool lanes.

I know there are incentives (tax breaks, etc) for companies that have rideshare and bus programs- why not expand that and really pay the ones that allow telecommuting? I know something like that exists, but we need to make it so companies can't wait to have their employees stay home (and off the goddamned roads!). So many jobs in this area can be done remotely- why not take advantage of that? Better QoL for employees, less traffic, less pollution, less road wear and tear, less gasoline burned...

I had a similar experience 2 nights ago as well.  The phone kept ringing notifying me to seek shelter too as tornadoes were in the area.

It seem to be largely unaffected.  Well, now that's it's stopped complaining about a non-allowed charger when it wasn't being charged.  I think I need it to last another year.  undecided

My son has sent an iphone 3 through the washer and drying.  He has dropped an iphone 4 in the toilet, and it took my wife minutes to pull it out (only after wrapping her arm in plastic bags).  The toilet phone suffered no ill effects, other than being gross.  The laundry phone died.  Except that I held on to it for reasons I cannot explain, and powered it on 6 months later to find it fully working again.  It now sits out in my car as a permanent music player.

If you resist the urge to power it on right away, seal it in a bag with some desiccant, and let it sit for a week or two you usually can resurrect electronics that get immersed. The water doesn't actually harm the parts as there is very little that is not corrosion proof/resistant inside an electronic device these days.
