Since we are talking family stuff....

My wife's father's cousin's son has always been an odd sort.  Nerdy, chubby, very unattractive, and just generally strange.  We've watched him grow up over the last decade or so, from a odd young man to an odd young adult.  We don't seem him more often than once every couple of years or so.  He has had some minor issues with behaviour in the past, and my wife and I have always wondered at his mental health.  Otherwise seemed like a generally good kid.  We heard a couple of years ago that we was going to take an education as what can only be translated as a "Pedagog Assistant"...something like a day care helper, but with actual papers, and it is something that you can sort of make a career out of in this country.  I think he actually just finished.  I always find it odd when males go into that particular field, but whatever...hell, maybe it would be good for him, I thought.

So we just found out that he has been arrested and has plead guilty to some form of (you guessed it) pedophilia.  The details are under wraps, but we know that he faces up to 8 years in prison, which in this country is considered a loooooong fucking time, so we are able to extrapolate from that that he is guilty of doing something massively inappropriate to a child under the age of 12, and I think the only official report we saw mentioned the victim as a male.  We know that he worked part-time in a day care that probably has kids between the ages of 6 and 10, so it seems likely that something happened there.  It is rather surreal.  He has been around my two older boys before, but as far as we can reason out, he has never been alone with them, and thank god for that.  His father (his parents are both really nice people...or are they?) happens to also be the director in his community for several of these public daycare institutions, so I can only imagine that he is going to be utterly ruined by this professionally, not to mention the obvious personal implications.

But there is more!  Here is the kicker that I deliberately did not mention until now:  this utter, despicable asshole (plead guilty, mind you) has a twin brother.  An identical twin brother.  Just as nerdy, chubby, strange and unattractive, but generally seems to be better adjusted socially.  They used to be utterly indistinguishable from each other, but that has changed to a degree.

I don't know what causes a person to be this way, though I know there is often a connection to these people themselves going through abuse (which unfortunately causes one to look at this guy's closer relatives in a new light).  But if you have this sort of thing ticking inside you on some sort of base genetic level...what does that say about your identical fucking twin brother?  Has he been exposed to the same issues potentially?  Does he have the same flawed brain that might lead him to do similar things?  And if there is no link at all, and the twin brother does not have the capacity within him to perform similarly monstrous acts, you just know that he is going to be stigmatized for the rest of his life.  I know that I will always wonder about him, fair or unfair.

We don't see this people very often, but Jesus Jumping Christ.  Next reunion should be fun.

This should encourage a little research to see if the guy was being abused.  It wouldn't necessarily have to be sexual abuse.  And I think we all have within us the capacity to do monstrous acts of some sort if we are put in the right (wrong) situations.

Pretty much, yeah.  I am assuming at this point that if there was some form of abuse, he himself will make that accusation (or the legal process will draw it out of him).  But who knows?  And can one be born with a pre-disposition to commit such acts?  I tend to think so.  Sucks like a motherfucker to be his twin brother right now, I imagine.

Okay.  We're having this conversation run side-by-side with the pedophilia conversation and it's making me nervous.   why so serious?

Sometimes, job reqs make me laugh at the absurdity of the requirements.

Seeking someone with Oracle 11g with weblogic, windows admin, linux admin, vmware, networking, network security, and all the infrastructure apps experience. Who is willing swap backup tapes and is also on-call.

OSX experience a plus.

Why hire 3-4 people when you can get one sucker person for $36k/year?   why so serious?

Isn't there some often quoted HR saying that you should write your job description in such a way that only 1 person applies for it and that 1 person will magically somehow be the ideal candidate.  This just goes to show that HR should only be allowed to be a part of the hiring process after you have offered the position to someone.

edit - To be fair though they list all that as job description not under requirements/experience.  Still who the F wants to do all that ...

They'll hire someone with no skills whatsoever and then put together a manual for all the most common fuckups. When I worked at the local paper, their IT department night staff had people on there who didn't even know how to put a floppy drive in a disk (this was 1998 so we still had computers with floppies). I had to take them through the process over the phone.

Indeed.  I'm probably one of the foremost experts in certain Cloud technologies in the UK and yet some of the adverts from companies wanting to 'do' Cloud are just ludicrous.  The experience one particularly.

Actually, it was drawing a verbal map that told them where the disk drive was on their computer.

Depends on the mead - sweet ones can come close to dessert wines, where dry meads can be more like brandy/whisky to me (minus alcohol content).

Have you ever wanted to tell someone to just get over something?  I mean, it was a life changing experience for them (not in a particularly good way) and now said person constantly keeps taking what I'd call childish potshots at the other person involved.  Oh, and person 1's support network of friends joins in on the rah-rah messages and in one case, one friend posted about how they had always thought person 2 was a tool and good riddance and oh, person 1's dad must have thought person 2 was a tool as well, yadda yadda yadda.

I'm friends with both of them but person 2 hasn't said anything negative about person 1, but person 1 seems to like making the snide remarks or liking photos that have snarky comments.  It's making it hard for me to think positively about person 1.

And yes, this has been playing out in my FB feed for over a year now.
