We've almost always had loud cars, except for the odd company car. We had an old TVR 350i that sounded like an airplane when we through tunnels. I liked it. Maybe that's one of the reasons I never really liked most of the company cars Righ's been given. Of course, there was always other stuff, too. They were too high, too big, too wide, too something. One was an SUV - I hated that the most, I think. That one was too high, too big, too wide and too everything.

That was a Range Rover HSE. I didn't hate it as much as most SUVs. Cars should only be loud if they have lovely sounding engines. However, more cars with lovely sounding engines should also have lower road and wind noise.

Here is something that has been nagging me for a while. Everyone talks about Japan's technological superiority, although when it comes to computer hardware, it is hard for me to imagine they use any different hardware than people in the States. Are their computer truly 3,413,980 X faster than ours? Do they use the same hardware from the same manufactures we do? Or is it a completely different game?

It has nothing to do with their PCs. It's more about the cell phones, design of the laptops, their advancement in design on netbooks and other tech. Really, they just design shit better.

Back to useless convos..... Buying my first diesel vehicle, as I type! Woot!
Golf TDI? I'm considering getting one. No, though I did look at the Volkswagen lineup. Ended up with a M-Benz ML320. There really aren't a lot of diesel passenger vehicles to pick from, and was actually surprised MB had any at all but apparently they have a ton of diesel cars over in Europe.

Yeah Diesel power in Europe (and Germany in particular) is a whole lot more common in passenger cars than in the US. Audi have even won at Le Mans for the past few years with a diesel car.

I drove a diesel rabbit in the 80s, that thing was amazing for mileage.
Loud cars don't bother me, nor does road noise. I'm not all that sensitive to it, being hearing impaired and whatnot. Besides, if I'm alone in the vehicle the stereo is too loud anyway. I do like to hear engines purr, though. The FJ has a nice growl to it that gets better as you open the throttle (nothing compared to my old Sebring 426 Hemi, the best sounding car I've owned), but it's also quiet at idle.

Around here 40-50% of all cars are diesel. Most company cars are diesel. I've been driving one for years now simply because company cars only come in diesel at the firms where I worked. Despite me doing only 15.000 km each year. It's pretty stupid.

Well hell. I finally get a nibble about a job, but it's in a Milwaukee suburb. Yeah, it would be a 2 hour commute if I did it from home, but I used to do 2 hours door-to-desk when I worked in downtown Chicago too. I finally get something that would be perfect (and it was through a recruiter) and I'm pretty much automatically dis-qualified because of driving distance, unless I suck up the extra that I'd be making (it would be a nice huge jump in pay) to stay up there during the week. *headdesk*

Ugh.
I keep misspelling "sign" as in "please have an officer or responsible person sign at the bottom of page four" on correspondence as signe.
I blame f13.

No. And no bizarre smilies at the bottom of page four either.

I do that, too! If you get enough people to misspell it, maybe they will change the official spelling!

I often miss the 't' when typing 'right' - a relatively recent thing that's the result of years of trying not to log into games as 'right'.

Awesome, getting invited to a closed beta for something I am very interested in trying.
Tragedy, logging in to the company's website and finding out that the version being beta tested is only for systems running Windows.

That plane crash wasn't near any of you Austin guys, was it? Drove by it on the way to work, got a picture. Was the building next to the building that houses Arkane Studios and Certain Affinity. Apparently an old Midway location where some book publisher was housed. Building was totally torn apart, 2 floors were raging. it made the drive exciting.

I'm done with the interviews. I don't think I hit a homerun but I'm also pretty sure it wasn't a pop out. I should know pretty soon if they are going to make me an offer.
