Just got pulled for not vacating a lane at night while a cop was in the lane on the side. Texas highway laws are weird. |

Same in this state. I guess too many people were crashing into cops while they were half way still in the lane after pulling people over, so they added a law instead of training the cops to follow a person with their lights on until they find a safe spot like they are supposed to. |

There is a lot of this going around.  Reminds me of the Seatbelt Law frenzy. October 26, I find out if I have a job or not.  Also, I will be attending an Electric Six show at The Earl .  I am thinking there will be drinks no matter what I find out. This morning I was thinking I might actually miss some of the corporate maneuvering.  Just the parts that I am good at, though.  Mysteriously-related comment: If you decide to stand in a group of people and start throwing them under a bus, make damn sure that there's not someone you pissed off a lot standing right behind you.  That fucking bus doesn't care who it hits. |

4ish years ago I got pulled over on a rural two-lane, high-traffic road with no shoulder to speak of so I put on my flashers, drove down about 500ish meters to a parking lot and pulled in there.
The cop, when he came over was all, "Why didn't you pull over when i flashed you?" angry-like and I just said, "It looked dangerous, I heard that lots of cops get hit by passing cars on routine stops."

He said thanks asked me to watch my speed and left.

Also, it's snowing a little bit here.  It's October.

Why is it so fucking hard for a receptionist to transfer a fucking phone call properly?  This is all they are supposed to do, full time! |

Why is it so fucking hard for a receptionist to transfer a fucking phone call properly?  This is all they are supposed to do, full time! You could ask the reverse question too. Why do business phone makers make the phone UIs so fucking confusing? I mean what the fuck does "Flash" mean anyways? Back when I was doing tech support we'd always warn people before we transferred them to call back in case we dropped them cause the call transfer procedure was so broken. |

I donno, on my phone it's easy: I worked at my last job for 5 years and still never could figure out how to get the phone transfer system to work.  My current phone at least has an instruction manual that they gave me so I can figure it out if I want to. |

Robotic phone menu systems direct calls pretty well.  Tell your secretary that and see if service improves. |

Finnuh, munnuh, muhfuh, I enjoy creating new written vernacular, s'all. |
Started taking glyburide this morning for my GD and promptly watched my glucose crash down to 64mg/dL (four hours after taking meds w/a pint of milk with Instant breakfast, followed by a bowl of oatmeal w/soy milk and agave syrup two hours after that). I thought I was gonna pass out! Drank some OJ with lunch, then my glucose sprang right back up to 108mg/dL.  Fucking with a pregnant lady's blood sugar is cruel. Edit: before Nebu chimes in, I did call my doc, and have a supplementary OB now since the diabetes diagnosis.    |

I didn't think it creepy or sexy so much as "Cool battle armor!  More receptionists should be ready for combat operations."  Of course that probably means Skynet has won. |

My mother pointed me to a natural sweeting extract (labeled as a supplement, sold at Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage, etc), to use instead of Splenda in my tea/coffee. It's called Stevia, and comes in a bottle of liquid or apparently crystals. Anyone tried this before? Mom seems to think the Splenda is causing my headaches, so I tried some and it seems alright - only takes a few drops of the liquid to sweeten up my English Breakfast. Company called Sweet Leaf makes the stuff I bought, but you can get it in generic too. |

I like cane sugar.  It's something we know doesn't have side effects and unless you're eating bags of the stuff doesn't add that many calories.  Seems like the more sensible option.
Now pardon me while I go eat my heavily processed dinner...

Sweet & Low used to give me headaches, Splenda did not. Stevia is better than both. |

My sister gave me a jar of stevia ages ago.  I used some in iced tea and it was so much better than the other sweeteners.  I don't use sugar or sweetener much (coffee and tea black) so I ended up eventually tossing it in the bin.  Righ takes a bit of sugar in his coffee and I use sugar very sparingly in cooking so there's not much point in me keeping around more than the odd small box of individual packets.   I've known several people who complain about headaches and/or nausea from artificial sweeteners.
Also, please tell me that I'm not the only one who calls it hiney flu, rather than the H1N1 virus?

Splenda gives me tummyaches.  As I discovered when we briefly switched from Diet Coke to Coke Zero at work.  Vile stuff.
Never heard of stevia giving anyone any problems, though.  I have a couple of family members who LOVE stevia because it's the only sweetener, including cane sugar, that they aren't allergic to in some way.

I don't think I disagree, however, where do you get unprocessed cane sugar that doesn't taste like ass? If you use the bleached stuff, I think there are other problems with that (extra chemicals?). |
