Is it weird of me that I saw "uisge beatha" and immediately thought "water of life" aka whiskey?  I mean, it wasn't even a "Oh yeah, I've heard that before, it means this."  My brain just knew what it meant.

I've been reading too many historical romance novels, I think.

I only knew about it because the genocidal general in Hotel Rwanda was a scotch fanatic and mentioned it.   awesome, for real

Anyways, I'm taking another last minute trip.  Five days to Israel, leaving tomorrow night.  Anybody have suggestions on the coolest places to see?  Its a tiny country, so easy to drive to where ever you want.  Staying in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.  May pop over to Palestine to see Bethelham or other places, if we have the time and it doesn't seem like to much of a hassle.

Waite a minute. Are you seriously suggesting that Crown Royal is better than Blanton's?

I don't believe that either was even alluded to in the video I linked.

You said my statement to that effect was heretical so now I'm just confused.

It's really very simple.  You advised someone to drink Blanton's, which is a perfectly pleasant whiskey, but you did so with an avatar of a character who, in the video linked (and in other episodes), is demonstrated to be a devotee of Scotch and, in particular, of Lagavulin.

Which gives me an excuse to break out another example, since we are lingering on the same topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XepXmESQ4k

Well I said it was better whiskey than crown and had a nicer bag.  Plus,  Ron distilled his own sour mash bourbon (legal only for stripping speedboats)

Me: "So I haven't heard from the folks supposed to be installing this stuff I bought last week"
Them: "We just got it in yesterday"
Me: "Yeah, great. That's one reason I scheduled it for today. A week to get everything in"
Them: "We can't schedule installs until it arrives and has been verified as functioning and in good shape."
Me: "I was told 'They'll INSTALL IT FRIDAY'"
Them: "There must have been a miscommunication. I will have the company that handles installs contact you. They have up to two business days to install it once it's arrived".
Me: "So, what, I should take another day off work?"
Them: "We're sorry there's been a miscommunication".
Me: "Would you like to know my hourly rate, so you can compensate me for it?"
Them: "I'm sorry, the sales associate couldn't/wouldn't/shouldn't have said there was a definintive install date".
Me: "Just have the installers call please. Maybe I'll get lucky".
Them: "Thank you"
*dial tone*
Me: "Fuckers".

Oh well, At least the plumbers are still coming today to fix the OTHER problem. Still pisses me off to take a day off for this shit. The plumbers I've worked with before. If I say "call 30 minutes ahead so I can get home from work" they'll do it, and I could have gotten in a half day or more.

Seriously, how hard is it to KNOW YOUR OWN GODDAMN POLICIES. If they'd just said "We'll order it, and once it's in we'll have the installers call you to set up a time" I'd have said "Fine, let's do that".

Updated with a phone call:
Them: "I called the installers. They can do it tomorrow, if you're free?
Me: "I'm free".
Them: "Great"
*dial tone*
Me: "Fuck you still. But I might shop there again one day. But it'll have to be a fucking good deal."

Welcome to retail sales pitches. Details don't matter - only the credit card authorization. Sales rarely talk with installers... especially at those big box home improvement stores (having worked for Home Depot and Lowes, can confirm). Luckily, they do have the 2-day installation policy or you could be sitting there with a product and waiting for the subcontractor to free up some time to come out which took weeks for sheds and fencing installs.

The thing about Endie's comment on Abagadro is that the character in the avatar is not Ron Swanson.

Nick Offerson is a huge fan of Lagavulin and the character's taste for that was based on that fact

It would be funnier if it was his character from You, Me, and the Apocalypse (who probably also likes Lagavulin, as well as wearing dresses).

Bonus soul scarring photo that came up when I tried to find a picture of him in the dress:

If you haven't tried Cinnamon Bun flavored Oreos, go buy some right now.

Came home and my PC wouldn't boot up. Odd, I thought, it was fine last night. Did some wire-wiggling and started to smell ozone.

"Wtf?" Open up the case and the power wire leading into the SSD is smoking and hot to the touch.

"Shit." Pull the wire and get a mess of melted plastic going along with it. SSD is fried and the power supply also seems to be a loss since I have no reason why it did this.

Figures that this weekend I'd been thinking to myself, "Hey it's nice not having to buy a new PC every 4 years. This one should last me another 2-3 with another video card down the line." Anyone have a clue as to why my Power Supply might have wigged out like this? It's the first time in 20 years of owning PCs I've had something like this happen.

No clue, though if it were something like that wouldn't the PSU have burned everything out?

Here's the fallout.

I cut that lead off of the power supply because even unplugged it was still getting hot enough to smoke. Starting at the two connectors prior to this one all the orange wires have melted and exposed wires. Only that jack was plugged-into anything so there has to have been a short somewhere, just no idea where. That it happened suddenly like this is the strange part.

I wasn't able to get the mobo to post at all last night, so that might be fried as well. Looks like a trip to Microcenter for a new PSU, Mobo and Chipset is in order. The rest of the machine is salvagable, checked the SSD and it still powers-up so I'll be able to get the data off of it at least.
