Speaking of IBM: Document Title: FSM Hangs after Setup Wizard When Using Special Characters in the Initial Password
Document Description: Description
When using the Setup Wizard to initially set up an FSM (Flex System Manager) and if the customer uses special characters when specifying the initial USERID/pe/root password without using a backslash (|) in front of each special character, the result will be a failure to boot to Active status, including not being able to log on using CLI.
Thanks IBM for not documenting this feature anywhere that your actual customers can see

I could have told you to not do that since we had a related issue on our lab system. Actually I learned this lesson from the HMC back in 2003 or so. If it's remotely using Java, do not use fucking special characters.
Everything from IBM with a GUI uses Java, it seems.

Shaving is starting to really wreck my face.
What are you using to shave (i.e. type of blade, cream/soap, etc.)? Braun electric. Foil.

It is a Remington 5150, but the trick is that I got a version with these "Black Diamond" heads, which now no longer seem to be available on that model (you can get them as replacements or on other models). Now it is Titanium heads...I have no experience with them, but they aren't the same. The rest of the razor is pretty cheap quality. I am forced to assume that it is these Black Diamond blades that are what make the razor good. Definitely better than all of the Phillips ands Panasonices I've ever had.
Yea, this doesn't exist anymore, I'm done looking.

I use a Panasonic wet/dry (which is overdue for another foil and blades, now that I think about it). I usually start with that and then finish/clean up with a blade. Anyone ever use one of the monthly shave clubs? Wondering how they compare. Can't beat the convenience.

Unless it involves me handing my face over to someone that shaves it while I'm doing something else, my Braun is probably the tops in convenience.

I do everything wrong with regards to shaving. I shave head and face with the same cheap-ass disposable gilettes (they're like 75 cents apiece) and regular soap. I shave both with and against the grain as is convenient for me, and I make as many passes as it takes to get the stubborn bits better razors probably wouldn't leave.
And yet I still don't have the problems y'all seem to have. Once every couple of weeks my lower neck will be a little irritated, but a little aftershave clears that right up.

Mom is home resting, and won't be able to watch the kids for at least a month Our in laws can watch my daughter at their house (they come pick her up every morning), but my son has to catch his bus. I asked my boss if I could come in late on my office days (after i drop him at the boss), and she suggested I just work from home full time until things return to normal. So, silver lining and all that. No traffic, much less money spent on gas and meals... could definitely be worse.

Do you know that it costs $400 more to fly to San Fransisco from Philadelphia than it does from Baltimore? How stupid is that? $400!!! And yet, your return flight into Philadelphia is the same price.

Probably due to airport fees, which are also why Cincinnati is one of the most expensive cities to fly out of. If they get much worse here I expect P&G and GE to rethink just how much they keep in town.

It is also due to the routes and which airports are hubs etc.
BWI is competing with DCA and IAD for the Washington D.C. traffic so there is probably better pricing there simply due to that.

Anyone here ever had bad nightmares? Related to actual emotional/mental trauma?
A friend of mine (more my wife's) was in a bad wreck (drunk driver caused a multiple car accident that my friend was caught in). She was only minorly injured, and tried to save a fatally injured driver. One who was not only fatally injured but....very gory. Like "chunks missing" gory, not all bloody. Bone and exposed organ and such. I believe he wasn't conscious, which was probably the only silver lining.
It's been a few days, and she hasn't slept. The nightmares won't let her. Any suggestions? She's got people staying with her (my wife's going tonight), but other than "We know an excellent therapist" I can't think of a single thing to do other than give food or watch her kids.

She needs to see someone for PTSD. They will provide coping mechanisms and possibly medication to lessen the symptoms. She may be dealing with this for a lifetime.

Well, yes, sort of. A few years ago I had a pretty bad nervous breakdown. I started having the most horrific, violent, disturbing dreams you could imagine. If anyone remembers, I disappeared from here for about two years. That was why. I couldn't get more that a couple hours of sleep and sometimes I wouldn't sleep for a couple of days. I was offered a drug called Prazosin that was supposed to stop dreaming altogether, but I couldn't take it because it made me faint. I have low blood pressure. It took a really long time for it to ease up and I still have violent nightmares once in a while, but it's no where near what it was. What got me through that particular bad time, and I don't expect you to take this as advice, was pot. My sister also would make me a tea made from Valarian root that also helped a bit. In fact, when I did dream after drinking that, the dreams would be mostly normal and not so alarming. Mostly it was the pot, though. Because of the breakdown, I was already seeing a shrink and a therapist a few times a week and I'm sure they'll tell you they helped me. Well, the therapist was okay and gave me some good suggestions, but the shrink was just a pill machine. I'd see him once a week for 15 minutes and he'd ask me a couple of questions and then write a script. One of the meds he prescribed nearly killed me. That was an interesting day. I hope she's better soon. Those sorts of dreams can destroy any quality that your life may have had. If she doesn't want that medicine, tell her to try the Valarian root. It really does help a little bit. I'm sure there's a bit about it on Wikipedia and I'll ask my sister where she gets hers. I feel so awful for your friend. She needs to see someone for PTSD. They will provide coping mechanisms and possibly medication to lessen the symptoms. She may be dealing with this for a lifetime. Oh right, that too. I was also diagnosed with PTSD. It's pretty scary.

Yes. Get to a therapist ASAP. If she 'toughs it out' she'll end up with depression and on pills and it'll last for years. Trust me on this. She shouldn't expect it to go away quickly, but it may well do. Sounds rough. My sympathies. As to what you should do, watch her. Because at some stage, she'll want to talk. And you need to let her. It'll be awful. So I'm told.

Thanks all. My wife's gonna suggest it to her husband, as he can actually set it up and chivvy her to go. Rather obviously, she's not really thinking terribly straight.

I was in a fist-fight today. Drunken man was rampaging down Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. He tried to attack two people, threw two cups of soda at a store window, violent and aggressive. Asked someone to call the police and stood my ground when he approached -- I had intended to observe, but I wasn't going to back down. I'm not that big, but I wasn't afraid. At the very least, distract him until the police arrived.
Well, it got to fisticuffs. I took a couple of hits but got a good one on him in the chin that sent him to the ground. I failed to spring on him and pin him, but a couple seconds later I grappled and managed to get him on the ground and recruited help to keep him pinned. Minor injuries for me, and I'm sure he didn't feel any of it.
It was weird though. I took no pride or pleasure in the act. I just thought I did what needed to be done to put an end to a public threat.

Lucky he didn't hit his head when he fell. Fighting like that is pretty damn stupid. You couldn't even argue self defence.

Well, he hit first, which seems to be the criteria for damn near any type of justified response. Multiple witnesses to that. As far as stupid -- maybe. Stopping him was more important. I was the arresting citizen -- when they took him in, the guy was bashing his head into the police car window. I think he said I'll Fucking Kill You about a dozen times to myself and others.
