Trying to get my Windows 7 Professional Box and my Mac Mini running 10.5.8 to see eachother and share folders is one of the most aggravating things I've ever dealt with.
Who the fuck came up with the network settings design for Mac OS? What the fuck is wrong with them?

No videos were shared today. No videos at all. I have no desire to pay Apple money to be able to watch movies on my PC on my TV in 1080 - or get the music off my Apple and onto my PC. This is literally Hitler.

Sharing -> Check File Sharing box -> Options -> Check "Share Files and Folders using SMB (Windows)"

Figure out the IP of your Mac and then on Windows, in the run box type: \\<ip_v4_address> like: \\192.168.0.10 What happens? Edit: Also, did you change the Windows Workgroup your Windows 7 machine is in? If you changed that from the default of "WORKGROUP" auto-discovery often doesn't work. On the Mac side you can it to match what's on Windows in: Network -> (Pick your network interface) -> Advanced -> WINS tab -> Workgroup Also also why do you have a Mac?

Because at one point I was going to make iOS software. Then I got a job at Challenge/Zynga and couldn't. It was donated by a kind f13 user.

Are the Mac and Windows machines on the same subnet? E.g. are they both on 192.168.0.X or 192.168.1.X or are they, say, 192.168.X.Y and 192.168.A.B? Because at one point I was going to make iOS software. Then I got a job at Challenge/Zynga and couldn't. It was donated by a kind f13 user.
Ah that's right I remember now.

Are you able to network from your windows 7 machine to any other windows machines? Also try disabling the firewall on the windows machine and the mac mini (honestly sounds like the best bet). Can you even ping from the mac to the windows machine? Or ping from the windows machine to the mac.

Yes. I can ping both from each one. The mac is in fact connected to the windows box now and works fine. The windows box pretends that mac doesn't exist. I can't blame it.

255.255.255.0 is a subnet mask, which all networks share. Its not the same thing as a subnet. Do they both have the same gateway, for instance?

I should get back to nature, too. You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer. Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached. Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

So I put Visual Studio Express 2012 on my box because, you know, had some C# code I wanted to modify (personal project, you know how it goes.). And I find...
All the goddamn menu options are in ALL CAPS. The interface is a color of purple that was apparently chosen from "most eye searingly bad colors to make your default colors" and it appears someone decided to fuck with the text-color coding so nothing's the color I'm used to anyways.
Okay, so I figure I can change the theme from ugly purple. I can find a less painful theme, surely. And I can hand-change all the time autocolors for the code.
But nowhere is there a "TURN OFF ALL FUCKING CAPS IN MENU" button. I have to go into the damn registry to do that. Whose fucking bright idea was that?

That is the design convention of Office 2013 as well, get used to it.

Ok so you verified network connection so its most likely either firewall or some goofy setting. Since you can connect to the Windows 7 machine I am guessing its setup properly. I am not as familar with Mac OS X so take this advice with a grain of salt. http://lifehacker.com/247541/how-to-access-a-macs-files-on-your-pcIn Leopard the "Windows Sharing" option has gone away. No problem - just enable "File Sharing", then click the "Options" button (lower right of the window). In the new window that appears, enable "Share files and folders using SMB", and make sure that the right user accounts are enabled also. That should be it - the default shares should now be visible from "My Network Places" on your Windows machine. (Default being "Public", read-only, and "Drop Box", write-only.) If it still doesn't work, check that your Mac is in the same Workgroup as the Windows machines. You can change the Mac workgroup as follows:
System Preferences -> Network -> Highlight Ethernet -> Advanced -> WINS -> Type the workgroup name -> OK -> Apply
Hope that helps somewhat.

Be thankful it's staying in. I've seen so many people at work losing their hair and I'm glad it's not me. I'll take silver\grey all day long.

That is the design convention of Office 2013 as well, get used to it. I refuse to get used to that. I admit to a burning curiousity as to why (and who) authorized that change, so I know where to direct my hate.
