You're all a bunch of bastards.

I've just been grabbed by the uber boss who's looking at Lync Partnerships and wants to know what's involved in getting certified.

If you all hadn't been talking about Lync, THIS WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED.

See, that's the problem it's only *you* who's been talking about it.  If you'd fed us some ammo in visual format we'd have discussed it thoroughly with you and you'd be well on the way to alimony payment #2.

So I start watching this series name "Misfits" and it's pretty good.  Kind of Skins with superpowers, of a sort.  Strange super powers.  Anyway, I hear this music which sends me searching for my iPod where I have this song.  Nicked, do you think?

Anybody got any opinions about the utility of getting security cameras for my office?  I'm pretty much small potatoes, globally, but there have been a lot of break ins at orthodontic offices lately around me.  And I had a break in last year.  Any thoughts about security, in general, would be greatly appreciated.

What do people steal at an orthodontist's office, generally speaking?  And I had no idea you were a potato!  Do you have a jacket?  Are you a jacket potato?  I LOVE jacket potatoes!  I know nothing about global potatoes.  Or is potatoes a euphemism for your balls?  In which case, I can't help you.

Anyway, what I actually came here to say was... oh, never mind.   swamp poop

Computers, televisions, printers, etc.  There's no drugs in my office so that's not something they're after.  And there's always the threat of having stuff stolen by staff members, particularly embezzlement (although I take some precautions on this by having small amounts of money actually pass their hands).

Also, I'm looking to find a way to incorporate digital signatures (on contracts and the like) in a pain free manner.  Any opinions there would be super, as well.   Heart

Cameras just help document what was stolen and where the weak points are unless you've got a super high-def camera that captures the guy's face, IMO.  Even then you're relying more on them having  a shitty Public Defender who can't get the tapes tossed if they're captured by the police.  (And most never are. Theft is such a low-priority crime and underfunding makes it lower.)

As far as security in general; a determined person is going to get in, regardless of what precautions you take.  When my parents had a pizza shop they were broken-in to by thieves who took off a security grill around an in-wall A/C unit and wiggled-through the 18x18 opening that was 10'-12' off the ground outside.  It had to have taken them 45 mins or more to get it done and nobody caught them, despite being in a highly-trafficked area.

I'm curious what they're stealing, too.  Probably drugs and computer equipment, right?  Things insurance will cover and only put you out for the time it takes to replace.  (You're doing daily off-site backups of records, right? If not, start.)

I've come to understand that if they can't take things thieves will just trash the place looking so it's a question of which will inconvenience you more, I guess.

My lab has stuff stolen from it all the time.  Organic solvents, balances, glassware, and books make great prizes for meth labs.  Current textbooks can be sold to book buyers with zero questions asked.

I think they offer great utility just go for high def and high frame rate be sure to get in lots of angles too.  Don't mind the cameras honey just lean back in the chair and take a whiff of this ether while the good dentist takes care of you.

Most security cameras are ip based these days and are fairly easy to setup.   Keep in mind that decent HD cameras ones are not cheap and can run over a thousand dollars.  You can buy full kits that give you everything from the cameras to the base station which while simple to setup can limit the flexibility.  One very important thing to keep in mind is have the camera files save somewhere secure or offsite.  If you just drop them locally to a machine behind your desk they can just walk off with the unit when they steal the rest of your stuff.   Also really you need to cover any entrances and have a decent enough camera to record faces.  Be prepared to spend a chunk of money but you may be able to save some money on insurance if you do it.
