Maybe 110 and muggy if the valley actually gets any monsoon action.

That sounds fucking miserable.

It feels...weird...watching the REST of the United States suffer from high heat, drought, and wild-fires. That was summer last year in Texas.

Soon enough the weather will stop trying to kill you and y'all can go back to telling those of us on the coast how dumb we are for paying such high rents.   Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

I live in Houston. I drove an hour and a half to play D&D saturday and was still basically in Houston. We pay for it in sprawl. :)

Plus, it's fucking miserable here most summers and the state is gradually turning to scrubland.

I was just in Houston a few weeks ago.  Had I known (remembered) that you were there, I would have bought you a beer!

I sir, would have drunk that beer. And then you would have mocked me for my shit taste in beers. :)

Actually, St Arnolds is a local brewery that is quite solid. A friend of mine is involved in another local brewery -- a very, very, very small one -- that is growing, and their beer is equally fantastic. It's just you can't get it if you don't work there, except a few times a year.

The had a booth at the Ren Fest last year and I suspect will again this year, and last I checked were discussing a distribution deal that would turn them from craft brewers where everyone but like one guy is basically "co-owner and unpaid volunteer" (one guy gets paid in something other than beer, but I don't remember what he does) to an actual, you know, money making operation.

Which is a plus, because their beer is fantastic.

My parents landed about 15 minutes ago in SFO and are going to be in Mountain View soon. They will be in CA for three weeks. That's like ... forever. My mother CLAIMS I don't have to spend the entire time with them, but I can't tell if she means it or is just saying it in an attempt to not seem TOO needy.  Ohhhhh, I see.

She does usually peter out around 10pm Eastern, so there's that I guess. Of course, she gets up at friggin' 6am Eastern a lot of the time, so I suspect I will be forced to wake up when normal people wake up for the next three weeks. :(

Well, you're about to find out! There's no dearth of things to do, as long as they have a car. If they didn't rent one, they can sign up for zipcar.

And you can encourage them to drive down to San Simeon or Big Sur or up to Napa or over to Yosemite or something for a few days.

As someone who must get up at 5 am CST for work (so, like, exactly at that time), I must ask what in the hell is normal about getting up at 6 am EST?

My office's hours are 8:30 to 5:30 so I work with people who don't get out of bed until 7:30.  As someone who has been in the habit of getting up 'late' at 5-5:30am for the last 5 years I loathe them.

Ha, no, my mom won't expect me to get up THAT early, but I am sure she will expect me to be awake and functional and ready for TOURISM by like. 8am PDT.  ACK!

If I'm not at work by 6AM I miss the owl shift workers and since they are responsible for keeping things running when I'm not there, I like to make sure I know them very well and help them with any issues they may have.  That said, working 6AM-4PM isn't much fun.  Sleeping in until 8:30 on Saturday and Sunday makes me feel like I'm wasting my day...

High school teachers in NJ (like my mom was) usually have to get up pretty frickin' early because for some reason high school starts at like 7am. >< My dad actually was crazy, he worked in NYC and did a two hour commute by bus (ONE WAY) every day for 30 some-odd years.  ACK!

Sadly, this has lead to both of my parents thinking that 7am is "sleeping in."

I'm 10:30 AMish to 6:30 PMish, myself. The only real downside is it makes scheduling Blood Bowl matches and raids and stuff with East Coast people something of a pain.

High School in my district used to start stupid early, but now doesn't. There's still the usual futzing with the busses (they don't start all the schools at once because they don't want to keep up enough busses for everyone at the same time), but they revamped the high school times to deal with -- get this -- actual research on teen sleeping patterns.

Supposedly it's made a small, but noticeable, difference in first and second period class performance.

That's it. I'm officially done. I don't know WHAT the fuck web designers have decided to do in the last, oh, two years or so, but I'm getting tired of supposedly solid sites (like, you know, Forbes for one) that crash half the browsers on the planet --- or ballon their memory footprint and drive the processor to it's knees.

Yes, my computer is OLD. I get that. But you know what? Opening a news site should not crash Chrome! On two different (if elderly) PC's in two different browsers.

I'm sick of javascript errors, "unresponsive plugins" (even when I've turned off pretty much everything!), and all the other fucking bullshit that I know is bad design and not my PC.

I'm not sure what the FUCK you think you have to load for me to read your damn news story, or take a look at my bill (looking at you Bank of America), but knock it the fuck off. Screen your fucking ads, turn off 50% of the interactive bullshit that no one uses, and clean up your fucking code.

I run stripped down, updated browsers with a minimum of add-ons and plugins. I can't imagine what the hell your website does to the average user with the 43 installed toolbars and dripping with malware.

Also, putting music that autoplays on your website? NOT ACCEPTABLE. EVER. Same with video.

Man, good for them, because fuck having to think at 7am. I was useless until like 4th period in high school. ><
