They're both as healthy as can be (for their age, of course) and their drinking hasn't caused any family problems, money problems, social problems, anything. That doesn't meet the standard for any kind of definition of alcoholism I've ever seen. /shrug

Some of those things are peripheral to the real issue.  The CAGE questionnaire is one of the best indicators and you can see that a good deal of it is how you internally deal with it.  Of course there are lots of alcoholics with all those problems you mention but some people roll along just fine while being raging drunkards a good deal of the time.

Quote
Two "yes" responses indicate that the respondent should be investigated further. The questionnaire asks the following questions:

Have you ever felt you needed to Cut down on your drinking?
Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
Have you ever felt Guilty about drinking?
Have you ever felt you needed a drink first thing in the morning (Eye-opener) to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?

And this really only gets to alcoholism.  There's definitely a gray area, but more people have problems with drink than they would like to admit.

I don't want to take this thread to politics, but seriously:

Have you ever felt Guilty about drinking?

These two can be accomplished by a Bible thumper (say, like my sister the Minister) making a scene while objecting to ANY intake of alcohol in her presence.

That's my parents too. Also doesn't help that half the time I get to see them is either at the racetrack (my Dad drag races) or camping.

He races like this?

Haha.  I still remember the people from our local Babptist church coming by the house on a Saturday at 8:00 AM and my dad going to the fridge to crack open a Natty lite.  He offered them one too.  They didn't stay long.

I knew I'd get a response like that, yet I oddly decided to leave that statement as it was.

My Dad has a certain level of fame as a racer for rather odd reasons:

That could be a 5th question:

Have you ever thought drinking Natty Lite was a good idea?

I have two or three fingers of bourbon or scotch pretty much every night.

This is true.  On the other hand, you wouldn't believe how much weight I've lost recently.  At 38, I'm back to my University size.

It's kinda shocking.

I'm still about 30 pounds more than when I was in college.  I've lost about 20 recently from exercising.

Drank an OK amount in college, but was rarely drunk. Rarely drink nowadays...just never developed much of a taste for it, which unfortunately means many drinks that I'm willing to try are a bit...girly.
Also did pot/hash a few times, only once in the US. Didn't do a whole lot for me - first time I couldn't* sleep, but then the stuff in Amsterdam knocked me out, which was a bit of a waste.

In other news, finally passed out of my French training, so now I can move on with life.  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

I still do!  Of course, not that anyone would envy my Mr. Burns like physique.

On a funny note, bit my lip the other day and it got hella infected.  Looks like I've been punched in the mouth.  Then my son managed to land a kick right on the infected area.  PAIN.

I'm doing my best to avoid ever having my university body again. Oddly university was spent trying to avoid having my sixth form body. Being a fat kid sucks except for the fact that now I can show people pictures of me from then and get to see the general shock. Also drinking with parents, my dad loves wine (or I suppose has a certian type of wine he loves) and also loves giving other people wine. He is also a terrible person to have around if you are an alcoholic or in any way susceptible to drinking too much as he will top up glasses when people aren't looking or totally ignore people saying they don't want any more. Fortunately my mum keeps a bit of a rein on him if there is anyone with issues (yes he has tried to force alcohol on people with drinking problems becase, "One drink won't do them any harm." swamp poop) Also fortunately very few people we know do have drinking problems.

I had to suffer through two glasses of Dewar's last night at the BBVD show. I managed.

Ditto. I was 155, best I could do when I was unloading trucks and working out was 175, because of the muscle, but I was still rail thin.

As of yesterday's doctor appointment Im down to 175 with clothes on. I havent weighed that little since I was 19.
If it was just around the middle I wouldnt complain that much, but I lost a lot of muscle as well.  Heartbreak

I hit my goal weight of 160 just this morning but I could probably lose another 5. 176 was getting a little pudgy for me since I'm only 5'8".

I went from 185 to 140 in a four month span while I was dealing with a high stress work environment and issues at home. I've stabilized at a happy 165 lbs and actually feel healthier and stronger than I ever have in my life.

We are having a big party at my place tonight and I have pulled something in my back. Dunno what to do. In a bit of pain and just want to lay down.

I assume drinking will be not the thing to do. Dunno if I can get out of it.

We were getting rid of the CRTs.  Nine hours on our feet shuffling equipment and ripping HDs out.

My feet were so swollen yesterday I barely fit into a normally lose pair of shoes.  I am very greatful today is the end of Daylight Savings.

The problem was is that I set my alarm an hour late instead of setting the clock. Well, I didn't know my clock was going to roll itself back to the new time so I ended up waking up an hour late. One of the many times I counted on something being manual and was screwed.
That was last year. This year I set the alarm on my phone thinking it would change the time and if it didn't I would just be up an hour earlier. My phone decides it's appropriate to fall back TWO hours instead of one making me late to work again. One year I will get this right.

The problem there could be that the phone updates itself.  Gates get too fancy and such problems happen.  I shall remain happy with my "dumb" alarm clock and watch for this exact reason.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.
