Well, it looks as thought I have a Nerf situation on my hands.  One of my offices is infested with mold and I've been telling the owner of the building for over a year that he needs to get the leaks fixed and problems cleaned up.  Now I can't see patients there and may be dropping a huge money burning bomb on his ass.

It's not really a Nerf situation until you go crazy fighting an even crazier landlord and post all the details for us to laugh at.

Sorry you have to go through the hassle though. sad

You're not gonna see a thread revival, unfortunately. The ending is nerf's to explain, but there isn't really closure in the way we all hoped.

If it went to the courts? Undoubtably not. Frankly, I'm just rather happy he got out -- mold can't be good for your health, and fueding with your landlord is just pointless stress.

lol. Mine is number #10.

They do mention that it's pretty much because of the giant fucking refineries, which means everyone from blue to white collar guys can work within a few miles of where they live. (No mention of the downsides of living next to a giant refinery. In all fairness to Shell, enough workers live there that the shenanigans they can pull are more limited).

Pretty heavy union presence, solid school system.

And of course, housing prices aren't bad because of Texas Constitutional limits and regulations that more or less prevented the worst of the housing bubble. (We had a nasty one in the 80s, and the subsequent legislation was never repealed.)

At this point I'm suspicious that the dog was a casualty.

That's the only unhappy outcome I can think of that wasn't predictable.

Oh, mine will definitely have an unhappy ending.  I'm in a hard spot.  I had to get the mold inspection, it wasn't an option.  The owner may not have money to fix the problem (or the desire) and that would leave me without a place to practice.  Fitting out a dental office is very, very expensive and I was hoping to have another two or three years to prepare for this eventuality of moving.  As such, I  may just be out a place to work in that area, which is a big problem because I have a lot of patients that use that office.  So really I either get rid of a shitty landlord and lost my office or I keep my office and keep a shitty landlord.  It's a lose-lose situation.

Sure, I mean if something really bad happened in his personal life, it's not like we're going to say he deserved it. I'd just be sad the story didn't end with him standing on top of his vanquished landlord like Captain Morgan.

Half the town works at the local chemical plants.  Mostly Dow, but BASF and a few others.  So you've got engineers, scientists, or specialized blue collar work.  Given that quite a few of those households have two people which work there, it's pretty easy to reach that total.

You're assuming a lack of empathy that isn't there.  I'd care if the dog died. I'd care if Luda dumped him. Hell I'd even care if he'd wound-up in jail for breaking all kinds of crazy Texas real-estate laws.

I was just stating it's pretty easy to draw your own conclusions outside of one improbable. (Luda leaving him wasn't an improbable, Paelos)  No need to get him to share the actual details.

Heavy unions, too. My info on that's a decade or two old -- but at least back in the 80s, the only plant that wasn't heavily unionized was (I think) Exxon. And they weren't unionized because they kept on eye on union bargaining with the other plants, and made sure their wages and benefits matched.

Probably didn't stay that way, of course. :) I knew a lot of Shell guys -- my dad was one for a long time, started out blue collar and moved to management.

He made, by the times, solid money for not having a degree. The local school districts tend to be pretty flush, since the bulk of funding comes from local property taxes -- and those plants pay a LOT in property taxes. Which means solid schools, in the top 5% or so for Texas -- with good teachers, solid extras (fine arts, sports, dual-credit classes, theater, etc) -- and if you can get past the "live next to a chemical spewing refinery" makes it a decent place to live.

And for all the godawful weather, Houston's not exactly a cultural wasteland. :) It's not Austin, but it ain't bad either.

The UK printing of the Way of the Tiger Books fucked me off.

The Inferno one was misprinted and choosing the ending had the wrong number so it sent you back to somewhere in the middle of the story.

For a year, I thought it was just Hard.
