Yea, read that a while ago. Would have posted it, but:
1. EA Boycott. 2. Godfather Team? Fuck. That. Noise.

I agree on both counts however my intense fanboi ghey love of the Sytem Shock series came to the fore.
Since reading the blurb I'm reminding myself that whatever end product comes out of this whole process probably won't be the high caliber of it's predecessors. /crossing fingers: Bioshock

Whether or not they screw up System Shock 3, there's always BioShock.

* schild posts in a thread to mention Bioshock. Which only shares the word "shock" with the System Shock series. Sure, it'll be great, but it's no SHODAN. Edit: Yes, this was a mocking post.

I'm sorry to say I have never played either of the System Shock games. Are either of them freeware yet?

Both System Shock games were the fucking mecha Jesus. No questions.
Bioshock will similarly be awesome. System Shock 3 will be a pile of poo, probably with a shitty console port in mind.

I'm sorry to say I have never played either of the System Shock games. Are either of them freeware yet? You can probably get both at Underdogs (I got SS2 there). I'm not sure if that's YARRRR! territory or not. I had never played SS2 until last year. Played it without the texture upgrades (none were really done) and the game looked awefully dated. It was pretty difficult to get it running also (vid issues with the video format they used). Still, it was bliss. Really one of the best games ever made.

I'm sorry to say I have never played either of the System Shock games. Are either of them freeware yet? Your momma is freeware. I can run System Shock in DOSBox, but not terribly well. SS2 should run OK, but if I was going to bother to replay one of them, it would be the first one. No idea where to get it. Google or something.

SHODAN wants to invade the Xbox, too, interface and controls be fucked.

As much as I'd like to think I've sufficient evidence to believe that a console release would destroy a good PC game series (after all, look what it did to Deus Ex 2)...
System Shock 2 was also in development for the Dreamcast. Was canceled before release, but...

System Shock 2 would have made a good console game. The change in controls would have hurt it just about as bad as it hurt RE4... not much.

If EA had the brain cells to just hand Irrational a bag of money to make SS3 for them, I'd take back every bad thing I've ever said about them. Instead, EA as usual lacks the neurons sufficient to even take a crap properly and stabbed the best game franchise ever in the neck.
Well, bye System Shock. Holding hopes high for Bioshock.

All this vitriol over System Shock 3 being made by one of the thousands of branches of EA. Granted, EA has alienated gamers everywhere with alot of their past business practices, myself included. (Bring back Bikini Girl biatch!) However, I've gotta say, this sure points at the impact of brand name. How much of World of Warcraft's success was a Blizzard logo on the box?

For initial box sales, probably quite a bit. Retention was helped by it not sucking balls. Irrational's repuatation and name on the box might mean a lot to us, but to the average PC games consumer, it likely means very little.

Geldon, it's quite justified. Did you play KotOR? Did you play KotOR2? Developer changes can have a huge impact. Irrational has a track record of great games. Those other cats made the Godfather.
It has a chance of being ok. I just wouldn't place my bets on those odds. I would bet that Bioshock kicks ass eight ways to sunday.
EA doesn't really factor in beyond Kit's points.

I'm definately on board with Irrational being all kinds of awesome, not only with the robot jesus incarnate, System Shock 2, but with its lesser vassals in the Freedom Force series.
Yet, and I know I may be smited by the gods on high to say this, there's a chance that the EA satelight company that made Godfather can do a reasonable job at a System Shock game. Taking the high production values of Godfather and marrying them to the awesome core gameplay of the SS series... there's a chance it could turn out very good.
Or it could be crap. Which would be yet another EA-inflicted travesty on the core of the PC gaming audience. I'm hoping not, but my optimism oft gets me in trouble 'round these parts.

I imagine it'd have to be a lot of money for Irrational not to go tell EA to fuck itself. EA treated them quite poorly with the patching for Freedom Force.
