According to AP this morning and Fox News, Kerry has picked Edwards for VP.  New York Post reported it would be Gephardt.  Personally I think Gephardt would have been the better choice, but it doesn't matter really either way.

In an election that's going to be as close as this one will be, Edwards is marginally more attractive to voters and thus the smarter choice.

I also liked Gephardt marginally better and would have enjoyed seeing Mezo eat his pants. :(  Oh, bugger!  Hopefully, it'll come down to Florida again.  That was ever so exciting.

Edwards will certainly make for some interesting debates between VP candidates. I don't think Gephardt would have held up againt Cheney very well, but I think Edwards should do fine.

The main knock on Edwards for the Prez was his relative inexperience, which is much less of an issue as a VP (Quayle anyone?). Strong move for Kerry on this one.

Now they need to come up with something more compelling than "I'm not Bush" as a campaign platform.

Bring the noise.

I'm not Bush, and my VP won't invite Ken Lay to write the energy legislation for us.

I'm not even sure if they are going to have any VP debates this year.  Not like any of the debates are really debates anyway, more like two-headed press conferences.

Good choice. Gephardt would have been an unmitigated disaster.

Kerry is not a warm man. He doesn't play warmly on the TV. Compared to Gephardt, Kerry is a goddamn stripper with pasties on her nipples for attention-getting. Gephardt is liquid fucking nitrogen. He's a Viagra-fueled hard-on of rigidity without any of the positives of that imagery. He's a fucking wooden post carved into the shape of a real-life boy and his nose grows when he lies. He is Keanu Reeves acting without the WHOA.

He is the TAB Soda of politicians.

Matching Kerry up with Gephardt would have been a monumentally colossal fuckup of Dukakis/Bensen proportions.

Meanwhile, Edwards knows how to work a crowd into a lather. He plays well on TV, he looks younger than he is (which is important to get the younguns in the booths), and he talks a good game. Edwards was the only good choice he could have made, because someone named Vill-SACK is not going to put either of them in the White House, even against the Dick and Bush show.

And yes, Kerry needs to craft a platform that is more than "ABB." Not that I would vote for anyone else, especially Bush, but some people care about that sort of thing.

Most of those things you said about Gephart I would personally say about kerry.  I understand you mean Gephart is even WORSE, and I agree, but shit man... kerry is a cold wooden corpse.  I thought al gore was wooden and robotic.  I have learned I will take robotic over exhumed from the grave anyday.

"relative inexperience" and doing fine in a debate vs Cheney doesn't add up.

They aren't debates, they're press conferences/beauty contests.  Cheney is the one who needs to be worried, assuming that they even have the things for the VPs.

disagree.
Like him or not, Danforth Quayle was much more charming/handsome than the 11foot silver fox that he debated - but at the end of the evening, it was the quicker wit that won the day, and the voice of experience that won the debate.

That's because Quayle was a potatoe head.  I'll go out on a limb and say that Edwards has a better head on his shoulder.  After all, he did go deep into the primary season.  I also saw him on the Daily Show and he seemed at ease and quite glib.

Cheney has gotten gruffer as his term has gone on.  Right now he gives off a Wilford Brimley with bad gas vibe, not something that's going to win a lot of votes.

I am not claiming that Kerry is in anyway warm. He's quite obviously not, so he needed someone with Edwards' charisma to counteract his dull.

While I see Gephardt as a turgid penis, I see Kerry as the Witch King of Angmar, a cold lifeless Lich which still manages to shamble around looking for brains.

But he's not Bush.

Bush is holding a $25,000/plate dinner about six miles from me. I feel as though it's my patriotic duty to head down there and scream 25,000 obscenities, but I'm pretty sure the entirety of Chapel Hill has that covered. The combination of the http://www.whitehouse.gov/vicepresident/">Dark Lord's assistant being so close, and the news of the Edwards/Kerry ticket has me timidly returning to news.google.com and praying to Christ there's no more Reagan news to be had. From what I've been reading, people seem to think Edwards is going to bring a lot of middle class swing voters and young voters under Kerry's disgustingly inoffensive banner.

Way to go, assholes, you just succeeded in making yourselves slightly more boring than Gore and Lieberman. I mean, fuck. Lieberman was an evil Stalinist, but at least he stood for something other than "OMG BUSH IS EVIL OIL WAR HAHA!" It might be enough to win an election, but all we're going to get once they're there is a thumb firmly massaging a prostate in the post-orgasmic toppling of a mediocre president with a bunch of fascists comically yanking at his marionette frame, despite the fact everyone has been gazing at the strings for three years.

I'd have preferred Dean, personally, or even that crazy idealist Kucinich, or fuck, this man has his http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=thompson/040706">finger on the pulse of the nation. At least then we'd have someone with a stance more definitive than Team Gore 2.0.

But hell, it's not changing my vote.
