the Confederate flag underneath the stone in my class ring

Holy.... fucking .... Christ... on a ... goddamn... stick.
Matt, your ignorance amazes me. Who the fuck do you think we are fighting in Afghanistan right fucking now? Did some new non-freedom hating enemy just pop up out of the fucking ground and go "BOOGA BOOGA" at our troops there? Tillman died in an ambush of one of our patrols in Afghanistan. Guess who the ambushers were. Civilians? Only in the sense that they weren't part of a sovereign military. Sheep herders? Maybe at one time. No, the people who attacked the patrol that Tillman's team was sent to save were terrorists, insurgents, Al-Qaeda, foreign fighters, local warlord militia, Taliban holdouts. Pick whichever term you feel fits correctly. Either way, they were the people we went to Afghanistan to fight against and remove from power. Equating the fighting in Afghanistan with the fighting in Iraq is wildly myopic, and makes you look like the guy Michael Moore thought was too radical to hang around with.
I am hardly a jingoistic American blind patroit. Hell, I'm voting for Kerry this November simply because I cannot stomach the corruption and lies that our current administration has fed us in relation to the Iraq war. BUT... and this is the important bit... I still support our soldiers. I still trumpet Tillman's sacrifice. No, America isn't perfect, and we have fucked up in Iraq. We still are, as evidenced by the photographs from Abu Ghraib (sic) prison. But I wouldn't dare call one of our soldiers a "dupe." Especially not a soldier who gave up a great fucking job paying huge bucks to go get shot at in some foreign land. Equating someone like Tillman with the 9-11 bombers is not only cowardly, it's wrong.
Tillman and the members of our military are not trained to fire on innocent civilians with impunity. Terrorists not only are trained to avoid confrontations with military personnel, but also to actively seek out and attack the most vulnerable civilian targets there are. The difference in courage required to do both is so large that you cannot compare the two without sounding like an absolute cock.
Which you do, BTW. Yes, that is an attack. Deal. Just because you are a dev doesn't mean you get to act like a cock without expecting someone to call you a cock.
Calling Pat Tillman a dupe in a thread honoring his memory is about as tasteless as pissing on his coffin in the middle of the funeral service.
