Durrrrrr.

Quote
Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. sustained injuries after being thrown from his motorcycle at a speed approximating 35 mph on Sunday night. Winslow will remain in the Cleveland Clinic for an indefinite period until swelling in his right shoulder and right knee is reduced and further evaluation can be completed, according to a club statement. Bill Bonsiewicz, Browns VP of communications, said he was unaware if Winslow underwent surgery or if surgery would be needed. Bonsiewicz declined to characterize Winslow's playing status for the 2005 season.
-- Cleveland Plain Dealer

The NFL Network reported Winslow's contract contains wording that forbids him to ride a motorcycle. If Winslow breached the contract he may have to repay part or all of his $6 million signing bonus and $4.4 million option.
-- Akron Beacon Journal

Winslow is really shaping up to become one of the all time draft busts through the amazing stupidy of himself and his agent.  First, he signs a huge contract that's highly contingent on him actually PLAYING FOOTBALL.  Then, he's injured in week two and loses millions of dollars because of it.  Small base salary + huge playing incentives + injury = Ha ha.

Now, he hurts himself on doing something that's explicitly forbidden in his contract on top of that it's something that could prevent him from getting those really smartly negotiated incentives.  Hadn't this dumbass ever heard of Jayson Williams?

He also quite obviously never heard of Aaron Boone.

Sorry, he's a fucking dumbass. If making millions meant I didn't have to ride a motorcycle, I think I'd not ride the fucking motorcycle. Especially since he can, you know, BUY A FUCKING CAR. Retard.

The NFL is heading towards and NBA-like class of stupidity. The only saving grace is that football by nature is a more strictly regimented game, but still.

Because Stupidity Degenerates into Absolute Retardation if Left to its Own Devices.

Yep, reports are that Kellen Winslow, Jr. is done for the 2005 season thanks to his motorcycle wreck.

Quote
Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee when he crashed his motorcycle, according to several reports.

He likely will miss the entire 2005 season, sources told the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Associated Press.

...

Winslow, who missed 14 games as a rookie with a broken leg, breached a hazardous activities clause in his contract by riding the motorcycle. The Browns could ask him to return part of the money he already has been paid as part of his six-year, $40 million contract -- the richest deal given to a tight end.

Why is so much bad money being thrown to complete fucking morons? I mean, if you want to pay me a one-year $6 million deal to get my leg broke and sit on the pine, I'm there. I won't even bother to ride the motorcycle.

Police say they will cite Winslow for motorcycle crash
May 20, 2005

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. will be charged with disregarding safety in the motorcycle crash that put his 2005 season in jeopardy, police said.

Police in suburban Westlake will issue a citation Friday afternoon, Lt. Ray Arcuri said. The charge carries a maximum fine of $150 with no jail time.

Winslow tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee when he crashed, two sources within the league told the Associated Press. An injury such as Winslow's typically requires 10 to 12 months of rehabilitation.

Winslow also sustained unspecified internal injuries when his motorcycle hit a curb at 35 mph and he flipped over the handlebars while practicing in a parking lot near his home May 1.

The Browns have Winslow's medical test results but the club cannot disclose the nature of his injuries because they have not received permission from Winslow or his family.

He spent nine days in the Cleveland Clinic before being released last week. Winslow, who has been resting at home, has not commented on his accident or his injuries.

Winslow, who missed 14 games as a rookie with a broken leg, breached a hazardous activities clause in his contract by riding the motorcycle. The Browns could ask him to return part of the money he already has been paid as part of his six-year, $40 million contract.

How many years was he signed for again?

I never thought he was going to amount to shit in the first place (even healthy). He may be quick and good with his hands, but too small for a tight end (or maybe it's just his head that's too small?).

James no-show at Colts minicamp
Former rushing champ wants long-term contract
Posted: Friday May 20, 2005 4:29PM; Updated: Friday May 20, 2005 5:42PM

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Edgerrin James was a no-show Friday as the Indianapolis Colts began a mandatory minicamp session amid his effort to get a new long-term contract from the team or be traded.

The former two-time NFL rushing champion signed a one-year franchise offer from the Colts in March that will pay him a little more than $8 million this year.

Drew Rosenhaus, James' agent, declined to comment when reached Friday by The Associated Press.

Rosenhaus had said in March that James was "not enthusiastic" about playing under a one-year contract and that he was negotiating with the Colts and other NFL teams.

The contract offer the Colts made to James came after the team had signed quarterback Peyton Manning and wide receiver Marvin Harrison to long-term deals during the previous year.

James, 26, is coming off his best season since tearing a ligament in his left knee in October 2001. James rushed for 1,548 yards and nine touchdowns, caught 51 passes for 483 yards and had a career-high average of 4.6 yards per carry last season.

I just have to laugh.  I bet his expertly negotiated contract might pay him exactly jack shit for doing this.

Shocked. SHOCKED I am that he attended the University of Miami. The other former Hurricanes (I hesitate to use the word graduate, since I bet a good many of them did no such thing), are all such fine, upstanding citizens. Ray Lewis, Michael Irvin, KWJ, Bennie and Brian Blades, Edgerrin James, Jeremy Shockey (no arrests that I know of, but he is a douche)...I know for a fact I am leaving some worthy candidates off the list. Hell, they have a guy playing for them now who will probably put all these guys to shame by the end of his career (be it a football career or a criminal career). DJ Williams is a THUG.

Shaq is actually a pretty good guy. If every professional athlete acted like him, things would be a lot better. And far more quotable-

Holy fucking shit. Someone should have told Senior that Raging Douchebag Week is over. Goddamn, I have never heard such a hunk of horseshit in my life.

"Treat him like a human being not a piece of property."

Yeah, fuck you. We know the implication you are making there and it's bullshit. If it stipulates in his contract that he isn't to ride motorcycles, and he does, well if I'm a Cleveland Browns fan or season ticket holder, I'd be pissed. He did something that he specifically said he would not do; he took money on false pretenses, saying he wouldn't do these things and did. That's bullshit. Why doesn't he stop treating an NFL team as a fucking welfare check and start treating it like a business, like a job he has agreed to do? Why doesn't he stop treating the team as a money tree, and start dealing with his responsibilities like a man? He's 21, he's prone to make mistakes. But he also has to deal with the consequences of those mistakes. One of those is media scrutiny, which when you get paid as much as he has to do fuckall, should be pretty goddamn harsh. Tell him to go talk to Barry Fucking Bonds about dealing with mistakes.

Fucktard.
