Sad to see Tarew Marr go, it was one of the biggest population servers in the old days.

Sadder yet to think about how much of my life I spent on thet server.

I think it's strange that they're eliminating servers that have been around since launch.  I mean innoruk?  Karana?  Brell?.  I remember playing on Karana 5 years ago.

That's sad that they're merging Brell. It had one of the best communities around.  I played there a bit as a member of Deus Ex Machina because I knew some of the guys IRL and it was a good time.  Tribunal's sticking around tho..  my reaction was similar to Way's, so I can relate, Way.

Whee, Drinal lives, but Karana dies....

Yeah, I don't know why I care, either. At least I know my toon should still be there, unique name and all.

Even after this, EQ should be running 35-40 servers or so by my rough count, and it is still probably still the #2 US-based MMO after WoW population-wise, maybe 3rd after EQ2.  Plus, they are still pumping out expansions and have the whole station pass thing going.  I would not be suprised if EQ was around for many more years.  They have a long way to fall before they sink to the levels of AC, DAoC, SB, AO and the rest, which still seem to be chugging along.

Yeah, this is not at all the death knell for EQ. But for some reason, I am sad to see the Karana name go. Especially to be merged into Bertoxx, which if I remember correctly, was a festering cesspool of stupidity.

Hmmm, Karana should fit right in then.

I can't believe they are taking down Innoruk and E'ci as names or that those servers need to be merged.

However many years ago E'ci was BY far the largest server by a good margin...

I've been waiting six @#!$#@$@#$E@#$@ years for a Karana-be-gone merger and now that the shit that is the Karana server will be melded into another server, I can possibly resume playing on it.

Not that I would support this, but it has been suggested that people take their complimentary character transfer and go to Fironia Vie. Then sell all your no longer no-drop equipement.

This set of server mergers was to marge one very-low population server with a high population server, as apparently people on the low-pop servers were having a hard time finding enough people to do stuff, group, raids, whatever.

According to my friend who still plays EQ1, Bristlebane, which was merged with a low-pop server a few weeks ago, is back to occasionally zone-crashing during peak hours again.  Huzzah, or something.

OH! OH! OH!

We should so have a pot for what is the last EQ server standing!  It'd be like a lottery that would take so long to payoff that f13 could prob keep all the cash.

So you are whining or cheering over a *server name*?

I can understand when I read that on the FoH forums where they act like they were stabbed to death in RL but it's *silly*.

It's a *name*. They are consolidating the players in order that who still plays can keep doing that. The only difference is that when you log you'll have to click on a different name. Is that a big problem?

You don't get it. It's like a legacy. People who have been playing for a long time aren't used to having to play with other NEW, possibly more experienced players. So it's not just clicking on a name but that name represents like..years of play and familiarity.

And they are consolidating the servers because the population of Everquest has gone down on some of the servers due to WoW/EQ2 and other assorted games.

Karana, for example, feels dead lately.

For someone who claims to be an expert analyst on the MMOG industry, you really are a completely clueless fucking retard. But I guess community is just another term to throw around.

They aren't just shutting down server names, which does have a connontation in people's memory, they are consolidating communities, some of which are really quite disparate and dissimilar. For example, on Karana, up until recently I believe, most of the big-name targets for the high-end catass raiding game were all on a rotation. I don't think any such rotation existed for Bertoxx. If you don't realize how much shit-flinging, politicizing and backstabbing the clash of those two entirely different cultures can product, you truly are the fucking retard we all know you to be.

No, it's some extremely funny song that Haem's father used to/still does sing to his mum. It goes something to the tune of "She's got freckles on her BUTT, she's pretty!"

I don't know, it's probably not amusing to anyone else but me, ya just kind of have to picture it an older man that looks somewhat like George Jones singing it to a very proper woman :)

I used to have a 45 of the Rodeo Song. One of my favorites, my old band should have covered it.

This is the voice of experience speaking. This is the shit that drove me (and I think Haemmy and many others) away from EQ. And why I hate that style of gameplay to this very day.

I played Tarew Marr in beta and early release, Innoruuk from Kunark onward. Sad to see them both die, though as with most others, I don't know why I'd even give a shit. Maybe it's partly sad to see the old, original servers rolled into the newer servers, and not vice versa?

Maybe this was Hrose's point, but vice versa would be the same, except for the name you click.  Once you roll server A into B, the damage is done regardless of what the resulting monster is called.

If I was still playing I would be quite upset over the loss of Brell.  It is the server I started on, and ended on, to me that particular world was EQ.

Bye Brell...
