This is Jagged Alliance Stracciatella a cross-platform (stable) JA2 runtime using the base game's files. Thus we are playing an unmodded game, expert difficulty, tons of weapons, sci-fi setting with a higher resolution.

House rule: No reloading, dead is dead. Until either Deidranna or my alter ego are dead.

Buuuuut: I spent 100+ hours ingame but never progressed past the mid game. And never on 'expert' difficulty. So the outcome is open....  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

=================================================

Setting the scene

The excellent and short intro conveys the story and atmosphere much better than I could with blahblah:

There's stuff!

So, the rebels are in a bad shape and need help. We accepted the contract and...ooooh, mail!

Oh, noes. It's fucking spam:

Although, I do love personality tests. Let's click the link.

[Gameplay-wise this Buzzfeed-like questionnaire is the character creation screen that determines your AEs personality and skills. For the most part it's pretty easy to figure out what leads to what]

There we go:

[specialites: Night Ops & Auto Weapons]

=================================================

Next up: Hiring some mercs and an actual battle!

Edit: Oh and I forgot, playing this with Wildfire maps, to change things up a little.

Step 2: forming the team.

The doctor:

Spider is kinda adorable, personality wise. Night Ops specialist, so her and cala are going to double team in the dark.

The grunts:

Gunter. The  merc equivalent of take-away pizza. Not super special but all around solid and affordable - can't go wrong there.

He is the nephew of Ivan Dolvic, who is his uncle. Look at his fundemantionals, then. Also is cheap

The explosive guy:

Really good in the explosive department and smart enough to take over the team-mechanic role too.
And look at his weekly salary! Trevor "$32,200 for two weeks" Colby can fuck right off - welcome on board Barry!

Part 3

Team successfully infiltrates

The situation

We move towards the treeline for cover, and...

But Wait, There's More!

Part 4: Oh, shit.

Cala moves south. The enemy still hasn't detected our team in cover. We'll keep it that way.

Encounter!

0703: An Arulconian soldier fires the first shot of the conflict.

We fire back.

Cover works for both sides: the team lost contact with the enemy.

Trying to sneak up on them frontally and just hoping for the best would end with a shotgun load in the face

Cala continues the flanking maneuver

Last meters: Cala sprints across the street, is seen, promptly shot at and barely makes it

But it's worth it. Drawing the soldiers attention allows Igor to move position without getting fragged himself

Barry is closing in too

Surprise attack.

Grunty and Spider open fire from the west. Berry from the north. Igor from the south-west, and...

Cala goes full auto.

Ta da!

Next episode:

===========================================
This was surprisingly much work. The next encounters will be less detailed less I run out of steam by the 2nd town.

Many fond memories at any rate for this. It really had good LOS mechanics, the AI was pretty sophisticated, but I kind of loved how much personality it felt like the characters had even if on re-viewing it wasn't based on scripted cut-scenes and complicated loyalty quests, etc.

(sorry for the slow  updates)

Mission Diary - Day 01
Men killed: 3, 9mm hollow point left: 41, calories: 5424 (deployment overseas no reason to get lazy!)
=============================================================================

Hah. Hah! Victory. Everyone dead, not a scratch on the team. Am such a good team leader.

Scouted the place. The Arulco, Aruloconian?, Arulconesian?? The Enemy Forces  turned half the houses into a boobied deathtraps.

Sent Barry to disarm. Do not want civilians to be harmed.
Also gesture probably playing well with the local populace: Brownie points are the currency of a successful insurgency. (Such a clever line! Mental note: Find appropriate opportunity to use in conversation. )

Oh well...
Looks worse than it was really. All digits still attached, he'll be fine in no time.

I hope...

Town is complete a complete junkyard. Met one woman, at first - understandably - distrustful...

...but managed to convinced we are for real.

====================================

Meanwhile in Meduna...

====================================

Back in Omerta:

Now, wait a moment you admittedly somewhat sexy discount-ché. I am not going to supply young women to pedo priests!

Now that totally makes sense. If think you about it what we are doing is just another form of humanitarian aid.

Onwards to Drassen.
