I've mentioned this movie before but, since some kind soul found a high-def version, I'm watching it again.

Bob Roberts is about a racist, rich, piece of shit senatorial candidate played by Tim Robbins. He's Trump, if Trump were smart. Also it came out in 1992. NINETEEN NINETY TWO.

This movie is prescient as fuck.

Jack Black basically plays your standard alt-righter.
Alan Rickman is Steve Bannon.
Ray Wise is Reince Priebus AND Kelly-Anne Conway.
Gore Vidal is Hillary Clinton.
Giancarlo Esposito is uh, the Journalism Twitter Brigade (Louise Mensch, Claude Taylor, etc).

If anyone asks what the movie will be like in a decade. It'll be this, but worse. Also, you should watch it because it may have one of the best casts is in the history of film. Here's some more of it:

Brian Murray
James Spader
Harry Lennix
Helen Hunt
Eva Amurri Martino (as a child!) (weird) (you've seen her nude)
Susan Sarandon
John Cusack
Jeremy Piven

Seriously, it's basically perfect. I'd say the folk-singing hurts the movie, but honestly the lyrics are so brilliant it's depressing.

It's really pretty amazing.  I'll have to watch it again as my comment in November was based upon memory of seeing it in its original release.

Yea I hadn't seen it in a solid 15 years. It holds up. Creepy well.

The only difference is the reichstag fire in this movie is Roberts getting Not Shot by Esposito.

Which leads me to believe that's how it'll go down in reality since this is basically note for note just the same shit.

I could imagine a kind of "oh, fuck, we knew this was coming" film festival:

Dear God. Go to Netflix and access the 'More Like' for Bob Roberts. Finding Dory, Christian Single: The Movie, Heathers, War Machine and Puss in Boots: Caught in an Epic Tail are amongst the list I see.

Yup, that's accurate.

2020 will be the year I gave up all hope.

I've yet to see a Netflix recommendation that WASN'T total bullshit.

"I see you liked The Colour Purple.  You would probably like Danish Assmasters III'

When everyone KNOWS that Assmasters 2 was by far the better movie and more closely aligned with the story of African American women in Georgia..

 rolleyes

The list of The Color Purple porn parodies is sadly uninspiring for the next joke in the series.
