It's out. It also runs like shit on PC. It plays fine for me because even if it's a gen or two back I have a mildly overclocked i7, 16GB of RAM, and a GeForce 1080.

It is more Dishonored- for all that entails. You have marginally more options for non-lethal playthroughs; such as non-lethal knockouts on enemies you're swordfighting (meaning being cornered or spotted doesn't mean your clean hands/low chaos run is over), non-lethal drop takedowns, knockout mines, being able to knock people unconscious with thrown objects, etc.

Powers for Corvo are basically the same; possession, rat swarms, blink, bend time, etc. Except most of these can be modified more than they could in the previous game; you can upgrade blink to Daud's insanely good timepause blink for example.

Emily I haven't played as; she gets different powers I hear. The only one I know offhand is that her blink equivalent isn't as fast but has a whip-like/arcing trajectory and works over way longer distances.

Bonecharms can be broken down to learn their "traits", and then you can use raw whalebone to craft charms- stacking the same trait multiple times to make it powerful, or just combining a shitload of useful charms into one slot.

Guards are generally a lot less stupid and far more perceptive- their long distance vision is as non-existent as any stealth game's guards but they actually have peripheral vision now and much better hearing. They also search much better- looking under/into stuff and backing eachother up. They still do stupid shit like going back on patrol after discovering a pile of bodies but they're way more a threat this time around- to a frustrating degree even with the obscenely overpowered blink still at your disposal.

The new setting is pretty, the story is okay. The voice acting and writing couldn't be more at odds; the voice acting is just as stiff/stilted/corny as ever while the written logs/journals/etc (and there are a LOT of these fuckin things) are generally great.

I'm enjoying it but I definitely feel like I've become a lot less willing to explore every nook and cranny looking for stuff- there's some insanely obvious methods to get into hidden areas that I completely missed despite combing the area for everything.

Why does every game have to have some sort of inane crafting system these days?

Yeah, and you gotta burn up runes to get crafting. It's useful but eh.

I enjoyed Dishonored, but given that Bethesda totally coincidentally announced their new 'no pre-release review copies any more' policy mere weeks before they released this while it was incredibly poorly optimised on PC, I'll be waiting until it's under £10. Or never, whatever. Bethesda is now a "fuck you" company in my book.

I kind of wish they'd remove blink.  I felt it marginalized the sneaking aspect of the first game.  It was not hard at all to get into places and past everybody by simply chain blinking around.

Just play the game while that dude who stands behind you and forces you to use blink is sleeping.  Everyone has to sleep sometime.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

People like to min/max and developers think they can add it as a last minute passing thought and get by with it.   In fairness though in games where it is thought out its a welcome addition IMHO.

You can refuse the outsider's mark and play with no powers canonically.

Also unless you're really good with it and gargle with mana potions guards are typically arranged in such a way that with their improved hearing and sight you'll get caught. I've had a way rougher go of it trying to stealth.

I think that's what killed the original for me, my mind says 'oh cool, stealth game!' and I go immediately into Thief 2 mode where I want to ghost levels. And then realize it's another murderous rampage game and go back to minecraft.

Uhh, it was really easy to ghost in the original. I think I killed like 2 people total, and I suck at these games.

I finished the original playing non-lethally, but only by knocking out almost all the guards (good thing Corvo never accidentally hits anyone too hard.)  I guess I think it's better to let players who aren't good at stealth succeed at a low chaos run than to require them to play perfectly, but it was probably a little too easy.

So far I've had a much tougher time going non-lethal/ghost since the guards are better at spotting/hearing you and the early levels so far at least have fewer paths that literally let you stay above/below/obscured 100% of the time.

Yeah, I realize it was probably just me. I get tired of learning new mechanics all the time and don't play a lot of stuff like this.

Along that same line, I played #1 way back and on the current play I find that I am somehow much better at it.  I did kill a dude with a Wall of Light but that one really begged me.  I got a trophy for it.

The Ghost trophy requires you to play the entire game without killing anyone and without alerting anyone.  Not sure I'm a bad enough dude.

Quote
Protagonists Emily and Corvo are less interested in the hard work of governance than the flashy ascent to power. Sound familiar?

Insofar as it's warranted to feel pity for triple-A video game developers, spare a thought for Arkane Studios. In development for years, Arkane's Dishonored 2 happened to release three days after Donald J. Trump upset the world by winning its highest political office in the manner of Veruca Salt screaming for a chocolate goose.

In the raw, urgent panic of those early days, it was impossible, irresponsible, to think about anything else. That a pathologically careless demagogue who marshalled racial hatred, bragged about sexual assault, and openly disdained the country he sought to lead could be rewarded with the stewardship of the free world registered as a stupid and senselessly cruel act of brutality; a warning shot that there are no marginalized groups in America who have made gains that can not still be destroyed. Nobody knew what was going to happen, perhaps him least of all. And into that bitter chaos entered Dishonored 2 to ask, you know, uh, we also need your help with the problems in the fantasy city of Karnaca.
