Fuck you if you aren't excited about this and I don't care if it's just an announcement!

This is pretty much my favorite anime series of all time and I think it could be fucking amazing if done right.

Also fuck any studio that makes movie "franchises" they do NOT get how it actually worked for marvel.

To be fair I can't think of all that many attempts. Dragonball. What else? (Airbender isn't anime!)

vampirehipi23: I would enjoy a book written by a monkey and turned into a movie rather than this.

Speed Racer and Guyver were the other two bad ones (besides DB) that came immediately to mind.

Except that Speed Racer was actually pretty good, at least in my opinion.

Didnt even realise they did a Guyver movie.  Must have been spectacularly bad if I had never even heard of an adaptation.

The Guyver movie was in the 80s or 99s and had Jimmy Walker and  Mark Hamill.  I've only seen clips and they were all dire.

All You Need is Kill / Edge of Tomorrow was a nice adaption (though it was technically from a manhwa instead of manga) and showed that you can actually do a good scifi movie from a manga/manhwa if you have a decent writer like Christopher McQuarrie (among other things).

Yup its starting to come back to life. Palladium books is just releasing a robotech tactical miniature game as well so starting to see more movement on the robotech front again which is really nice because I enjoyed this franchise a ton over the years.

You just know those bitches are going to cast Rhianna or Beyonce as fucking Minmei or some shit, and we will get treated to some seriously shitty music as a result of whatever this becomes.

This is a job for Michael Bay.  Ohhhhh, I see.

THis will probably be almost as bad as the first Robotech movie. No, not the one you're thinking of that's set right after the Macross arc. The one that was spliced together using Megazone 23 and a couple other shows and was in theaters in the late 80's.

This will be an okay SCI Fi movie when taken by itself, but as an updated "robotech" movie it will be shit and leave out everything that made the show memorable, enjoyable, and groundbreaking to American audiences. If the final product doesn't tur out to be something that would have been improved if Micheal Bay had been involved I'll be shocked.

This is just going to make it even more impossible for me to get actual Macross things here... and it's already pretty much impossible.  sad

That's pretty much what Minemei was, so it would be accurate.  why so serious?

It seems casting a mega pop star to play a mega pop star is perfect casting.

I suppose it says a lot about my taste in women when, as a kid, I couldn't for the LIFE of my understand why anyone would want to date Minmei when you could be dating Lisa Hayes.

I did marry the smart brunette. No giant robot ship was included, sadly.

Rick and Minmei were closer to the same age, plus she was supposed to be popular and hot.  Lisa was older and kind of a bitch.

she was awful insecure and angsty for a woman so successful. Never quite got that until I was older.

I'd love to see a real good version of this concept hit the screen, but nothing I've heard so far gives me confidence.

Nicki Minajmei.

You know, I fucking LOVED Robotech when I was a teenager but even then, I cringed at that fucking scene. I still cringe at it.

Did that ever make it into robotech?  Can't remember.  That's actually from the Macross Movie, which is where they sort of retold the events of the series in a very abbreviated form, with some plot changes.  But same shit happened in the series also.  But nothing as 'epic' as that scene.  awesome, for real

I'm just thinking of the first time Minmei sang to the aliens and they were all like "ANIMESURPRISEFACE!!!!!!" and shit. I didn't watch the whole scene you posted, just enough to know what was going to happen. My memories of it are fuzzy on the details but the cringing is real.
