Pope Francis died today. The first Jesuit pope, likely the best I'll get to see in my lifetime*. Speculation that JD Vance assassinated him for being a terrorist sympathizer is already rampant. Today's builders of Babel tell us that there is no room for losers, and that those who fall along the way are losers. Theirs is the construction site of hell. He asked to be buried in Santa Maria Maggiore, which I visited during my too-brief visit to Rome a few years ago. It's where St. Ignatius (founder of the Jesuits) said his first Mass as a priest, so it makes sense that Francis would have had special affection for it. * (Given the general state of the world, I'm fully expecting the next pope to be a "The Young Pope" style Gen Z Opus Dei freak who will outlive me.) |
